On 7 hours of sales, it made it to #59 in the UK
25/07/2011 - Tragic Amy Winehouse death makes first impact on Official Charts
The sad death of Amy Winehouse makes its first impact on the Official Charts today -in a week in which female artists continue to dominate this year's Official Albums Chart. The Official Charts Company reports today that tragic Winehouse, who died on Saturday aged 27, makes an impact on the Official Albums and Singles Charts. With fewer than seven hours sales being counted after Winehouse's death was confirmed, her Back To Black album returns to the Official Albums Chart at 59 and 163 (in standard and deluxe editions respectively). In turn, Winehouse's Back To Black and Rehab singles also re-enter the Official Singles Chart at 81 and 181 respectively. While the chart arrivals are relatively low this week, they are sure to rise over the coming week. Sales of Winehouse's albums increased by 37 times between Friday and Saturday, with track sales up by 23 times. Official Charts managing director Martin Talbot said, "For the world and British music to lose such a talent and icon yesterday is truly tragic. And already the popularity of Amy's music with the British public is being demonstrated, with sales of her albums rocketing by 37 times over the past 24 hours -according to Official Charts Company data." "While Amy has already had an impact on the Official Charts -seven hours is just 4% of the seven-day sales period monitored for the Official Charts- we would expect an even bigger impact to roll through over the coming days. Such a demonstration of her popularity is the best tribute the British public can pay to this extraordinary British talent." The resurgence for Winehouse comes as female artists maintain their grip on the Official Albums Chart. Adele continues to lead the way, claiming her eighteenth (non-consecutive) week at the top of the chart with 21, while her debut album 19 holds at number three. In 2011 to date, albums by female artists have spent a total of 6 months at number one. Just fifteen weeks ago, Adele with 21 and 19, Katy B with On A Mission, Rihanna with Loud and Jessie J with Who You Are accounted for the first all-female Top 5 this year. That feat is repeated this week, with Adele supported by Beyoncé holding at number two with 4, while jazz singer Caro Emerald scores her best yet Official Charts placing with Deleted Scenes From The Cutting Room Floor climbing from last week’s six to this week’s number four. Lady Gaga is at number five with Born This Way. There is just one new entry in this week’s Official Albums Chart Top 10, with electro hip-hop duo LMFAO's second album Sorry For Party Rocking straight in at number eight. In the Official Singles Chart, boy band The Wanted’s Glad You Came holds the number one spot for a second consecutive week as the Top 5 entries remain unchanged from last week. There are no new entries in this week's Official Singles Chart Top 10.

"Back to Black" was one of the 2000s' biggest critical hits, so you have new people discovering it weekly (why it continued selling as it did, even with little recurrent play).
No mention of the Frank album- wonder if it will see a new peak.

I'm sure Frank will see a new peak either this week or the following week. Its previous 60-something peak won't be hard to beat, should only take 8-9k

I'm excited to see how high her numbers will be. B2B will definitely be #1 in the US on the BB200.

I suppose but it is already slipped to #2 on itunes. It would need to reverse direction or there would need to be a big run of physicial copies for it to happen
On this weeks chart it will make it to top 20

As its losigng ground to new releases on itunes already, top 20 will probably be its peak. It will make top 20 on this weeks chart and probably top 20 next week too (full week of sales), but after that will likely fall

If it's already going down on iTunes I don't think it will get #1. As someone said, physical sales might be limited.

Adele is a motherf***ing monster!
So good to see Lady Gaga get a 13% increase. Hopefully it stays there/Y&I helps it get back into the (upper?) 30s.
Scotty still #27 with no other Idols in the top 50. I really think he's going to be big.

He's the only one of them who's receiving any airplay.

Another sign that he's going to do well - Lauren's single picked up some country airplay at first but it got dropped. I know Cook also got decent airplay for his coronation single. I just have a good feeling about Scotty.

Woot Woot! Glad to see Cold end up in the Top 40. While the Band does have two gold albums under their belt they will never come close to that again. But Scooter Ward is a really underrated singer/songwriter. Glad to see it at least chart in the Top 40.

Sales are very polar this week - either they're really good or really bad. Mostly good though.

Kidz Bop didn't come that close- 9K is a decent enough gap.
Queen B's latest single is performing nicely enough- it's outdone the first single.

Who's the lowest so far? The honour goes to Amos Lee with sales of 40,478 on the chart dated February 12th. Amos Lee - my favorite album of the year along with Foster The People. Great music!

I'm surprised it took that long to reach a new record after Dreamgirls in early 2007 -- considering overall record sales consistently experienced double-digit declines in the following years. I guess we have Alicia, Taylor, and the unusually robust release schedule in early 2010 to thank.

I expect Scotty's debut album to crack 100k for its debut week. Let's see if he'll do enough in the long run, the last Idol alum to reach 1 million sales for its debut album was David Cook. Adam Lambert with all the hype he had, stalled in the 700-800k range
