www.billboard.biz/bbbiz/charts-articles/chart-alert/adele-s-21-marks-11th-week-at-no-1-on-billboard-1005293792.storyOver on the Digital Songs chart, at No. 1, LMFAO's "Party Rock Anthem" keeps on partying with 209,000 downloads sold (down 3%) while Katy Perry's "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)" climbs up one rung to No. 2 with 164,000 (down 4%). Nicki Minaj's "Super Bass" is also up, rising a spot to No. 3 with 154,000 (down 1%). Two titles make big jumps within the top 10 as Hot Chelle Rae's "Tonight Tonight" zips 7-4 with 148,000 (up 13%) and Bad Meets Evil's "Lighters" (featuring Bruno Mars) skips 12-5 with 143,000 (up 56%). Reaching the top 10 for the first time is Britney Spears' "I Wanna Go," which goes 11-9 in its sixth week on the list, selling 116,000 (up 26%). Meanwhile, Pitbull's "Give Me Everything" slips 6-7 (127,000; down 7%), Adele's "Rolling in the Deep" is steady at No. 8 (121,000; down 7%), and Lil Wayne's "How to Love" gets pushed down 5-6 despite a gain (139,000; up 2%). Digital track sales this past week totaled 24.1 million downloads, up 5% compared with last week (22.9 million) and up 14% stacked next to the comparable week of 2010 (21 million). Year-to-date track sales are at 731 million, up 11% compared with the same total at this point last year (660.6 million).

All is surely not lost for Katy Perry to go five straight in terms of Billboard Hot 100 chart-topping singles............but I feel she has no more than three weeks remaining to make it happen.
*
The good news is that there remains a lengthy divide between "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)" and "Lighters" on radio, which is the track most closely rivaling her single besides "Party Rock Anthem" digitally-speaking. Perry doesn't have to be worried about being eclipsed by this single at radio, and thus it doesn't pose an imminent threat..............yet.
On the flip side, "How to Love" is rapidly closing the gap at airplay, but it's not exactly rivaling her single digitally. Perry still maintains a comfortable cushion from Lil Wayne in this respect, and I see this trend persisting in the next two weeks most likely.
*
The bad news is that "Party Rock Anthem" hasn't shown any visible signs of letting up digitally, in spite of beginning its fourth week at the top of the Billboard Hot 100. Perry may be closing the airplay gap, but the chasm between their singles digitally is about four times as wide this week..............and as long as both singles record similar incremental minimal signs of movement in the next few weeks, all hope will likely be lost for Perry..........as "Lighters" will have caught up to "Last Friday Night" at radio by then.

Perry's team best get out some kind of "Rih-Mix" to boost sales- if it's concerned with attaining another chart record. Which most likely is the case.

Actually, the gap between LFN and HTL keeps increasing every day on radio. 07/27 - 29.309 07/26 - 28.902 07/25 - 28.771 07/24 - 28.284 07/23 - 28.165 07/22 - 27.967 07/21 - 27.670

^Each single has a video, she performed the first two singles on TV and she's touring to support the album. Nah, she's not promoting. Teehee... Alot of ppl think touring is promo. I don't understand how "promoting" to people that have bought the album counts...I never got that concept.

There's no way of knowing that people who attend a concert purchased a copy of an act's latest album- just no way. If an act tours relatively soon after an album's release, that's even more effective touring than, say, going on tour almost a year after an album's release.

Even if Katy doesn't hit #1 with LFN, which I still think is doubtful, it's not necessarily the last release from her album. They could even do a re-release to get more singles out of the album.

On the flip side, there's no way of knowing that ppl who attended a concert didn't already purchase the album but I guess shelling out $100+ to listen to past songs and 1/2 of a new album might entice someone to shell out $15 later on the buy the actual album...stranger things have happened. As non-sensical as it sounds there might be ppl that will pay more money just to see the star in person versus listening to the album prior to know if you are even going to like it. Promo should be aimed at making the fans aware, enticing the fairweather fans to jump on and hopefully find a new audience through promoting to those that might not be aware of the product. I still wish she could do that with a daytime talk show or nighttime interview. Oh, well :'(

I still think it will...this will just take way longer and become much more challenging than many originally thought. I think they will release a 6th but the way it's looking she should just release whichever song she wants and not focus on what could be #1 because it most likely miss the top spot.

She should re-do The One That Got Away with Bruno Mars if she wants a 6th single imo.

I hope "Last Friday Night" will not have a remix or steep discount just to avoid another endless arguments of 'cheating' vs 'strategy' here on Pulse. If it gets to #1, I hope it will do in the usual way

"Lighters" jumps to #10 blocking Britney's "I Wanna Go" to #11. Britney fans should wait for next week to see Britney finally having three singles from one album reaching the top 10 6th Top 10 hit for Bruno Mars (3 on his own, 3 featured), it will likely be his 6th top 5 as well "Pumped Up Kicks" is up to #29 while "California King Bed" finally cracks the top 40 at #37 Mumford & Sons' 'The Cave" crosses 1 million sales this week. Their 2nd million selling single after Little Lion Man, I'm really impressed with their sales consistency and they never had a big crossover hit at that, just word of mouth i guess new.music.yahoo.com/blogs/chart_watch/74393/week-ending-july-24-2011-songs-bad-meets-bruno/

While I love Party Rock Athem and hope it continues at #1 for many more weeks Im also rooting for Katy.Id love her even get just 1 week. Im baffled why there no rumour at least of ANY kind of remix. Right now into next week is really the only time I think it would make the difference. Makes no sense ESP w/ a possible record here :(.

Week Ending July 24, 2011. Songs: Bad Meets Bruno Posted Wed Jul 27, 2011 5:59pm PDT by Paul Grein in Chart Watch
"Lighters" by Bad Meets Evil featuring Bruno Mars jumps from #17 to #10 in its sixth week on the Hot 100. This is the sixth top 10 hit Mars; the first for Bad Meets Evil, the duo consisting of Eminem and Royce da 5'9''. Eminem has now cracked the top 10 under three artist identities. He has amassed 14 top 10 hits under his own name. In 2004, he scored with D12's "My Band." And now he's got this hit.
Mars' top 10 hits are split evenly between featured credits (behind B.o.B, Travie McCoy and now Bad Meets Evil) and his own headlining hits.
This marks the second time that Eminem has reached out to one of the most ubiquitious voices on pop radio for an assist. Last year, he featured Rihanna on "Love The Way You Lie."
"Lighters" ranks even higher on Hot Digital Songs, where it jumps from #12 to #5. Radio airplay has been lagging behind, but it is starting to catch up. The song jumps from #35 to #20 on the Radio Songs chart.
"Lighters" entered the Hot 100 at #16 five weeks ago. It tumbled as low as #58 in its third week (!) before beginning its rebound to the top 10.
"Party Rock Anthem" by LMFAO featuring Lauren Bennett & GoonRock tops the Hot 100 for the fourth straight week. LMFAO is the first ongoing group or duo to have a song spend four weeks at #1 since the Black Eyed Peas held the top spot for 26 straight weeks in 2009 with "Boom Boom Pow" and "I Gotta Feeling."
"Party Rock Anthem" spent four weeks at #1 in the U.K. in April and May. It's the first song to spend four or more weeks at #1 in both countries since Katy Perry's 2008 breakthrough smash "I Kissed A Girl," which logged seven weeks at #1 in the U.S. and five weeks at #1 in the U.K.
Perry's current hit "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)" inches up from #3 to #2. It's vying to become the record-matching fifth #1 from her Teenage Dream album, but it's taking its sweet time getting there. It spent four weeks at #4 before inching up to #3 and now #2. Did Michael Jackson, who is the only artist in history to pull five singles from one album, have to sweat it out like this? Not really. "Dirty Diana," the 1988 hit that earned him that record, jumped steadily from #8 to #4 to #2 to #1.
Pitbull's former #1 smash "Give Me Everything" dips to #3. The song has also reached #1 on the Latin Pop Airplay chart. Billboard's Rauly Ramirez notes that it joins a short list of English-language songs to reach #1 on Latin Pop Airplay. It follows Selena's "I Could Fall In Love," Shakira's "Hips Don't Lie," Enrique Iglesias' "I Like It" and, believe it or not, Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On (Love Theme From ‘Titanic')." The other artists named here all have strong appeal to both pop and Latin audiences. Dion achieved the feat just because that song was so ubiquitious.
Here's the low-down on this week's top 10 songs.
1. LMFAO featuring Lauren Bennett & GoonRock, "Party Rock Anthem." The song holds at #1 for the fourth week in its 18th week on the chart. This is its 10th week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #1 (209K).
2. Katy Perry, "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)." The song jumps from #3 to #2 in its ninth week on the chart. This is its sixth week in the top 10. Will it become the fifth #1 from Teenage Dream, matching the record set by Michael Jackson's Bad? Stay tuned. Digital sales rank: #2 (164K).
3. Pitbull featuring Ne-Yo, Afrojack & Nayer, "Give Me Everything." The former #1 song dips from #2 to #3 in its 17th week on the chart. This is its 12th week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #7 (127K).
4. Nicki Minaj, "Super Bass." The song jumps to #4 following four weeks at #5. This is its 13th week on the chart; its seventh week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #3 (154K).
5. Adele, "Rolling In The Deep." The former #1 smash dips from #4 to #5 in its 29th week on the chart. This is its 17th week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #8 (121K).
6. Lil Wayne, "How To Love." The song holds at #6 for the second week in its ninth week on the chart. This is its fifth week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #6 (139K).

Demi Lovato's "Skyscraper" tumbles from #10 to #51 in its second week...Britney Spears' "I Wanna Go" jumps from #13 to #11 in its seventh week on the chart. Digital sales rank: #9 (116K).
The Band Perry's "If I Die Young" jumps from #23 to #15 in its 35th week. This is its highest ranking to date, surpassing its initial #19 peak..."Knee Deep" by Zac Brown Band featuring Jimmy Buffett jumps from #22 to #18 in its 11th week. This is the Brown Band's highest-charting hit to date. The old record was held by its breakthrough hit, "Chicken Fried," which peaked at #20...Beyonce's "Best Thing I Never Had" jumps from #25 to #19 in its eighth week. (The sighs of relief from the direction of Sony Music are audible.)
Foster The People's irresistible "Pumped Up Kicks" jumps from #38 to #29 in its 13th week...Rihanna's "California King Bed" jumps from #47 to #37 in its 10th week. You can see why the Country Music Awards jumped on this song last year, when they had Rihanna sing it with Jennifer Nettles. It's a traditional romantic ballad with a strong lyric in an era where we don't have a lot of them.
Red Hot Chili Peppers' "Adventures Of Rain Dance Maggie" debuts at #38. It's the first single from the band's upcoming album I'm With You, which is due Aug. 30. The song is vying to become the Peppers' fourth top 10 hit, following "Under The Bridge," "Scar Tissue" and "Dani California"..."Moves Like Jagger" by Maroon 5 featuring Christina Aguilera jumps from #61 to #41 in its fifth week as it fights to get back in to the chart's upper reaches. It debuted and peaked at #8 last month.
"Otis" by Jay-Z and Kanye West featuring Otis Redding debuts at #47. The song is from the pair's upcoming album Watch The Throne, which is due Aug. 8. "Otis" is built on a sample of Redding's "Try A Little Tenderness," which reached #25 in 1967. The song was already an oldie at that point: Bandleader and showman Ted Lewis introduced it in 1933. A 1969 version by Three Dog Night did nearly as well as Redding's (#29), though Redding's has better stood the test of time.
Pop Quiz: In 1931, Ted Lewis introduced another song that was memorably revived in the 1980s. Name that song.
While you mull that over, I'll note that "Otis" is the fourth chart hit on which Jay-Z and West have collaborated. They previously teamed for "Swagga Like Us" (which also featured T.I. and Lil Wayne), "Run This Town (which also featured Rihanna) and "Monster" (which also featured Rick Ross, Bon Iver and Nicki Minaj).
Still mulling? "Rain Over Me" by Pitbull featuring Marc Anthony jumps from #81 to #59 in its fourth week...Blink-182's "Up All Night" jumps from #85 to #65 in its second week...Drake's "Marvin's Room" debuts at #68. It's vying to become Drake's seventh top 10 hit..."Stereo Hearts" by Gym Class Heroes featuring Adam Levine jumps from #91 to #73 in its sixth week.
Quiz Answer: In 1931, Ted Lewis introduced "Just A Gigolo," which David Lee Roth revived in 1985.
Adele's "Someone Like You" jumps from #97 to #85 in its third week. Adele's album 21 returned to #1 on The Billboard 200 for an 11th week. You already know that if you read Chart Watch: Albums. If you missed it, here's a link.
50 Cent's "Outlaw" debuts at #87. The song, from 50's yet-to-be-titled fifth regular studio album, is vying to become his 14th top 10 hit...."Marvin Gaye & Chardonnay" by Big Sean featuring Roscoe Dash and Kanye West debuts at #88. The title refers to two age-old tools of seduction. Gaye's 1973 smash "Let's Get It On" topped the Hot 100 for two weeks and Hot Soul Singles (as the chart was then called) for six weeks.
Four Amy Winehouse songs re-enter Hot Digital Songs in the week following her death (though none made the Hot 100). "Rehab" re-enters at #46 (total sales: 1,763,000), followed by "You Know I'm No Good" at #103 (748K), "Back To Black" at #114 (234K) and "Valerie" at #200 (106). "Rehab" reached #9 in June 2007. "You Know I'm No Good" reached #78 in June 2007 and, following a re-issue, #77 in March 2008.
Cee Lo Green's "F**k You (Forget You)" tops the 5 million mark in digital sales this week (5,017,000). It's the 14th song to reach this sales milestone, but only the third by an African American artist. It follows "Low" by Flo Rida featuring T-Pain (5,989,000) and "Apologize" by Timbaland featuring OneRepublic (5,083,000).
Lady Antebellum's "Just A Kiss" tops the 1 million mark in digital sales this week. It's the trio's fourth million-seller.
Mumford & Sons land their second million-selling digital hit this week with "The Cave" (1,009,000). The group's previous release, "Little Lion Man," has sold 1,455,000 copies. The English group was nominated for a Grammy for Best New Artist, but lost to Esperanza Spalding. No disrespect to Ms. Spalding, but Mumford & Sons deserved to win. Both are talented and distinctive artists. But Mumford & Sons also connected in a meaningful way with the record-buying public, which ought to count for something. I'm not saying whoever sells the most records deserves to win. But when you have a quality artist who also made a huge impact, it doesn't make sense to look so far afield for somebody else to honor.
R.I.P.: Amy Winehouse isn't the only Grammy winner for Best New Artist who died this week. Dan Peek, who was a member of the pop-rock trio America, died on July 24 at age 60. The group, which also featured Gerry Beckley and Dewey Bunnell, hit #1 in 1972 with "A Horse With No Name" and its eponymous debut album. Peek wrote America's 1973 hit "Don't Cross The River," which Garth Brooks covered on his 2001 album Scarecrow. Peek and his wife Catherine Peek co-wrote the group's 1975 hit "Lonely People." Peek left the group in 1977 to record Contemporary Christian music. He made the Hot 100 in 1979 with one such song, "All Things Are Possible."
