Not only is this not surprising, but it feels like when you're watching a movie and you can predict the ending before its even halfway through. It was obvious she had reached the point of no return a couple of years ago. She spent the past 5+ years constantly under the influence, and she was doing heroin on a regular basis when she died. You don't just recover from that kind of addiction. It's a tragic end nonetheless and a complete waste of immense talent. It's devastating that we will never hear a proper follow-up to Back to Black, but at the same time, that very fact makes the album itself all the more iconic.

Very sad indeed. Back to Black is one of the great albums of the 2000s. But, as many said, not realy a surprise, given her troubles.

Tbh, I see why some people had hope (and I kinda did too), but it never fully felt like she was trying to recover. Which is why I'm not incredibly surprised at this actually. A little "wow" but nothing that doesn't totally shock me. Moreso disappointed in her proving everyone right though.

Sad, but not surprising. RIP Another proof how drugs can be very dangerous. She should've understood the risk. Too bad. :(

^i never thought she would fully recover either but i definitely didnt think she would actually die so soon either :( theres so many celebrities who were screwed up for years, decades even & still lived a somewhat lengthy life.
RIP Amy :( :(

Another proof how drugs can be very dangerous. She should've understood the risk. Too bad. :( That's a very black and white way of looking at things, everyone and their grandmother knows that heroin, crack or whatever Amy was on, can kill you. But I don't think anyone is in the position to judge her based on the obvious drug addiction she struggled with. I hear everyone saying that it was unexpected and for a long time I thought a drug OD from Amy was to be expected but I can't help but still feel very shocked and sad.

It must have been very difficult for her family (and all families with a loved one going through such a fatal addiction) to watch this unravel for years and feel helpless.

Drug habits are not something you can break very easily, even if you know the risks. Once you start, you might not be able to stop, even if you want to. Oh totally. It's such a sad mess. All drug addictions are. I'm glad my brother ended up going to jail over it. Otherwise he might be dead too. Jail was like his rehab. There's no saying "no no no" to that.

Regardless of what happened, she's human. And she suffered immensely. The music she gave us in unforgettable and will last forever.

Drug addicition is a disease, it's not something you can always consciously decide to overcome. We don't know why Amy choose to start taking them in the first place but commonly it has to do with depression, which is also a disease. I hate people who belittle Amy as a weak person, she clearly was fighting demons that unfortunately were too strong. Her talent was huge and her music was great, she will be remembered.

Wow :o www.topnews.in/amy-winehouse-fears-she-ll-die-young-2101783Dec 29: Troubled singer Amy Winehouse reportedly has a fear that she will join the `27 Club' - the tragic group of rock stars who died at a very young age. The `Rehab' hitmaker's drug-fuelled lifestyle is no secret to the public and she last month spent time in hospital after suffering an adverse reaction to medication. Now, Alex Haines, a former aide to the 25-year-old has lifted the lid on her fears. Haines is adamant Winehouse has a fear she will die at the age of 27, joining other legendary rock stars including The Doors frontman Jim Morrison, the Rolling Stones star Brian Jones, and Nirvana rocker Kurt Cobain. "She reckoned she would join the 27 Club of rock stars who died at that age. She told me, ''I have a feeling I''m gonna die young''," News of the World quoted Haines, as saying. (ANI)

RIP. :'( I was a casual fan of hers. I had hoped that she would be able to turn things around for the better and stage a musical comeback.

It disgusts me to see people feeling sorry for her when she killed her self. I never feel bad for anyone (friends, family, celebrities, etc) who die from killing themselves, drugs, drunk driving etc. I care about the people who died from REAL reasons. She has so many people around her that cared about her, and she still did foolish things. I don't want to hear the excuses..it's hard to quit, etc. etc. I know all about it, and I know plenty of people who have died from drugs in the past. Every situation is different, yes, but still, I will never feel sorry for someone who keeps doing the wrong thing when she has money to help her, support of fans, friends, family. All these celelbrities are so upset and hurt but they were not doing anything for her when she was alive? Anyways.
She was a good artist though. Not my favorite, but I respect the work she did. It was unique, fresh, interesting, etc.

Amy Winehouse is not of the same caliber as the others in the'27 club' though. There will obviously be a short term spike in her sales but you won't see people 20 years from now lining up to buy Amy Winehouse albums in tHe same way as Janis Jopin or The Doors or Nirvana I don't know. Back to Black is already a watershed, iconic album and her untimely death, while obviously unfortunate, will only contribute to that even more. It's too soon to judge really, time will tell.

Sad, but not surprising. Such a shame the music industry looses one of its greatest talents. :'(

Amy was a rare talent, what a huge loss.
Yeah, she might not be on the exact same level with legends like Jim Morrison or Janis Joplin, but a big part of that was because she didn't produce a decent amount of work. However, what she had done was truly phenomenal.

You're a terrible human being. This is a celebrity who lead a reckless life and by her own actions, her life was cut short, death is never a good thing for people, but I don't think it is wrong to to feel that way Saying anyone "killed themselves" when addiction is involved is just wrong and ignorant, especially when the only things you know about their life is from the tabloids.

Exactly. It never surprises me how ignorant some people are when it comes to addiction. And really to judge her situation without knowing anything about her personally, right after she died, is a bit low.

Just my opinion, Amy Winehouse won't produce the same long term sales as Nirvana, The Doors and Janis Joplin did (these were all rock acts, which seem to do better with catalog sales anyway) As mentioned there wasn't a large volume of work, I would put her long term impact, given her music output and genre on the same footing as Aaliyah I love Aaliyah and her untimely death was just as tragic, but her musical output reached nowhere near the impact, acclaim as Winehouse's (admittedly short) catalog did. And I'm not even talking about sales but Back to Black was a massively influential album. Adele and Duffy for example have a great debt to Winehouse

Amy made some very bad decisions, but I certainly don't think she had the intention of "killing herself". It was just unfortunate that she never had the chance to start over.

She was reckless and didn't care, she even wrote about it in her songs Line 1 of Rehab: Rehab lyrics Songwriters: Winehouse, Amy; They tried to make me go to rehab, I said, "No, no, no" But in fact she did check into rehab, for more than once I've heard.

But listen to the verses, she talks about her knowing dependence and admits her own addictions and almost asking for help. But like I said, you can't evaluate her case without knowing anything about her situation, past, personal demons etc, every addict has a reason they used in the first place. But honestly whether or not you think she did it to herself, she's dead at 27 years old and there's really nothing else to do but be respectful and enjoy the legacy she's left us with. And hopefully if anything, a few more people were see through popular culture, the downward spiral drugs can cause so they don't use in the first place.

There have been many celebrities who have had drug addictions that overcame them There have been many celebrities with drug addictions that never overcame them too. What's your point? And are you really citing her song as means to pass judgement? I really gave your brain too much credit.

Amy DID try to quit several times. It's not like getting off drugs is as easy as writing a judgmental post on someone you don't know on an internet forum. Some of the things that have been said in the last page are just absolutely disgusting.

We live in a different age though of the Nirvanas and Doors etc that Winehouse lived through a microscope and her downward spiral was seen step by step by pretty much every type of demographic through the tabloids and media. No one really saw the struggles of Cobain, Hendrix, Joplin unravel, but only the end result. With Amy, we've all been there every step of the way, so in that way it's different. And I don't think Amy's impact/influence has been felt at its maximum level yet. It hasn't even been five years since Back to Black. Give it another decade at least.
