3 of the 4 versions of Watch the Throne are Top 20 on the overall album chart on iTunes. The album should have no problem doing what's predicted.

if the individual indie store is weighted by Soundscan, might register anywhere from three to five sales per single indie purchase. (8/9p)
What does that mean? How can a single purchase register five sales? I could think of two, but not five...

www.billboard.biz/bbbiz/industry/retail/kanye-west-and-jay-z-s-watch-the-throne-1005309482.storyKanye West and Jay-Z's 'Watch the Throne' on Track to Break iTunes' One-Week Sales Record August 09, 2011 By Keith Caulfield ( keith_caulfield), Los Angeles The big numbers for Jay-Z and Kanye West's "Watch the Throne" keep rolling in. The set is already on track to sell more than a half-million copies in its first week, sources say, and now, it's likely to shatter the one-week iTunes Store U.S. album download record too."Throne," which is exclusively available via iTunes until Friday, Aug. 12, seems to be on course to break iTunes' one-week sales record, set when Coldplay's 2008 album "Viva La Vida Or Death and All His Friends" shifted 282,000 in its first week. (The album sold 288,000 total downloads in its first week, including sales from all other retailers.) Sources told Billboard.biz that "Watch" sold more than 155,000 downloads via iTunes on its first day of release. That 155,000 figure comes close to the one-day iTunes sales record, which was tallied by "Viva." Sources say "Viva" did around 175,000 on its first day in the iTunes Store. "Watch" will not, however, earn the record for the biggest overall digital sales week ever for an album. That distinction is held by Lady Gaga's "Born This Way," which moved 662,000 downloads in its first week earlier this year, with the bulk of those sales courtesy of AmazonMP3. The retailer famously priced the album at 99 cents for two days during its opening week. It's estimated that Amazon sold upwards of 440,000 downloads of its 99-cent "Born This Way" album. Of course, Amazon could always opt to sell "Watch" for an ultra-low sale price, as it did with "Born This Way," once it begins offering the set on Friday, thus throwing a wrench into the album's first-week sales projections. Stay tuned...

I thought iTunes did not make its individual sales figures known- or is Billboard guesstimating? Of course, if something is an iTunes exclusive, then we know all of the sales came from that outlet. :)

I could think of two, but not five...
Soundscan weights indie stores sales higher, to attempt to estimate sales at other indie stores that are not tracked by Soundscan. Their logic is that the small stores they do track probably have similar sales patterns to the small stores they do not track. I don't think people realize that Soundscan figures, even when down to the final digit, are still estimates.

WATCH THE THRONE RISE Jay-Z, Kanye Headed for #1 500-550k Debut in Sales, Luke Bryan, Now 39 Next
August 10, 2011
The Throne has been filled by Jay-Z and Kanye West.
The Roc-a-Fella/Roc Nation hip-hop icons’ Watch the Throne album is set for a #1 debut with anywhere from 500-550k, the second-largest first-week sales of the year next to Lady Gaga.
This estimate is based on iTunes digital sales only since the physical copy of the album doesn’t hit until Friday, which includes a deluxe exclusive at Best Buy, but it’s more than enough to make it #1 on next week’s HITS chart.
Capitol Nashville/EMI country star Luke Bryan continues the recent streak of high charting albums by the likes of Blake Shelton and Eric Church with his third studio album, Tailgates and Tanlines, which looks in the area of 120-125k, a solid #2.
Capitol/EMI’s Now 39, the latest in the long line of hits compilations (can you believe?), should do between 100-110k, a lock for #3.
Columbia’s Glee: The 3D Concert Movie soundtrack should do between 25-30k.
Veteran Roadrunner Orlando heavy metal rockers Trivium’s fifth studio album, In Waves, its first since 2008’s Shogun, will debut with 20-25k, the same total expected for Def Jam/IDJ rapper Ace Hood, inked to DJ Khaled’s We the Best Music Group label, on his third studio album, Blood, Sweat & Tears.
Asylum/WB’s Atlanta-based Gucci Mane & Waka Flocka Flame are next up with an estimated total of 15-18k for their Southern-drenched collab, Ferrari Boyz.
Album sales were down 2% vs. last week, up 8% vs. same week last year and up 2% year to date.
Track sales were down 1% vs. last week, up 12% vs. same week last year and up 11% year to date.
TEA (Track Equivalent Album) sales were down 1% vs. last week, up 9% vs. same week last year and up 4% year to date.
Been down so long, it sounds like up to us.

That's a lot of debuts. I'm a tad surprised at Glee's #'s.

While I remember hearing about a Glee movie some months back, I forgot all about it until I saw a commercial for it a few days ago.

Wow I just realized Adele will finally be shoved out of the top 3, for a week, at least.

Which album(s) in the SoundScan era have the most total weeks in the top 3 (non-consecutively) I think Jagged Little Pill got 46 total weeks in the top 3, not sure if anything is higher than that though. I can see Adele going back into the top 3 in later weeks, of course it'll get tougher once the mad rush of 4th quarter releases come out. But I don't even think Adele can surpass Alanis, she's only about halfway there :x

a bit surprised at glees numbers but when you think about it that fanbase must be broke, the show is 2 seasons in and had release 6 regular albums, an xmas album, an album featuring darren chris, a madonna tribute ep, a rocky horror ep, and lastly an ep for the finale of season 1.

Amazing sales next week. Yeah Adele's 21 will finally end her top 3 streak but I'm glad it would be for 2 albums selling 100k+ and one 500k+, that's good

Luke Bryan must be kicking himself for releasing his album 1 week too late. Very impressive 120k-125k sales that would easily have been #1 last week. I'm pleasantly surprised he will outsell Blake Shelton's 1st week sales. I wonder if Blake underperformed or Luke overperformed?

Blake clearly underpeformed. Which is what I said weeks ago when we saw his projection and his fans jumped on me. It's a shame too because Blake's personality is so endearing and love his voice. :(

Now Christmas CDs are fine. Those are obscure tracks that are seasonal and fit perfect on compilations. Not power rotated, easily accessible Pop hit compilations which could be made in five minutes with a CD burner or an iPod.

Not everybody downloads/burns music, even now, but there's still money to be made from them. Like that Scotty McCreery EP, it's sold over 100K and all the songs from it are on iTunes and have been since May.

I'm sure at least some people don't download individual new tracks because they just wait for the next NOW compilation and get them all at once.

Jay-Z and Kanye West will score the second-best debut of the year when their Roc-a-Fella/Def Jam/Roc Nation album Watch the Throne debuts north of 500k on next week's HITS sales chart. Luke Bryan debuts with the best start of his career, continuing a recent strong run by male Country artists and giving Capitol/EMI a possible three titles in the Top 5. Columbia looks like it will have eight in the Top 15 as Adele drops out of the Top 3 for the first time in nearly six months of release. Here's how it looks headed into the weekend:
*Jay-Z & Kanye West (Roc-a-Fella/Def Jam/Roc Nation) 500-550k *Luke Bryan (Capitol Nashville/EMI) 130-140k *Now 39 (Capitol/EMI) 95-105k Adele (XL/Columbia) 65-70k Eric Church (Capitol Nashville/EMI) 35-40k Jason Aldean (Broken Bow) 35-40k Kidz Bop Kids (Razor & Tie) 27-30k Jackie Evancho (Columbia) 27-30k Beyonce (Columbia) 24-27k Victorious cast album (Nickelodeon/Columbia) 24-27k *Glee The 3D Concert Movie soundtrack (Columbia) 24-27k *Ace Hood (Def Jam/IDJ) 21-24k Bad Meets Evil (Shady/Interscope) 21-24k Foster the People (Columbia) 18-21k Blake Shelton (Warner Bros. Nashville) 18-21k *Trivium (Roadrunner) 18-21k Selena Gomez & the Scene (Hollywood) 18-21k
*Debuts (8/11p)
