I just realized that 'She Will' is the 4th song to go top 10 that has both Lil' Wayne and Drake on it. How many hits before Lil Wayne and Drake are considered regular recording partners? :o well, they are making a collaborative album together. like their "watch the throne".

That is true, Xiivi- look at Quincy Jones single credits, Jellybean, etc.- when they didn't sing a lick on the tracks. :)

Would we all feel the same way about the Maroon 5 song if Christia Aguilera's name was not in the title? I would.

I would. I like Maroon 5. And my opinion of the song would not change if Christina were to be removed.

denverd, RiRi's appearance on "Love the Way You Lie" tallies a lot more than 20 seconds- and, it IS the chorus, after all, repeated multiple times. :) I know it's tough to establish a set rule for length of time, but in the case of a track like "Moves Like Jagger," Maroon 5's live performances showed that nothing was really missing without Aguilera's presence. slw- neither can I. Yes, I agree. Cos even Xtina doesn't sing the chorus at all. But, i still think that this song won't be this BIG without Xtina name on it. (as well without The Voice exposure) And, Xtina definitely needs this #1 exposure. It'll be her #1 in a decade. At least she will get the great press. Although it's not her own solo #1. Hopefully it can open for her own solo success again. And, before thinking about the rule of 'Featuring', i think Billboard must quickly think about "releasing remix to get a higher peak- -strategy" first! It's not cool anymore. It's a bit not fair, just like discounting price.

It's a bit not fair, just like discounting price. Completely fair. Billboard tracks how much product was sold, not how much profit was made from said product.

discounting is totally fair. Cd's are discounted at stores all the time. Is that fair?

But if the price is discounted after the single stalled at #2 and just to make sure it can jump to #1? I think it's cheating. But anyway, yes, it's not illegal.

But if the price is discounted after the single stalled at #2 and just to make sure it can jump to #1? I think it's cheating. But anyway, yes, it's not illegal. Every other song also has the option to be discounted. If the current #1 song wants to discount their song to counteract the #2 song's discount that option is fully available. You seem to be saying that the timing of the discount is "cheating". Since you say when it's stalling at #2, discounting is suddenly "cheating". What if "She Will" had been released at 69 cents from the start? Completely different timing, but would have likely been enough to get it the extra sales it needed to debut at #1; especially since his label knows his & Drake's sales can both be very front-loaded with proper anticipation. Then they set it to his normal 1.29$$ price he uses regularly for his music for the weeks after. Is that "cheating" as well? If so, then we're back to the product costing a different price as being "cheating" as opposed to timing. In which case, we're back to Billboard measuring product sold as opposed to profit gained.

Cheating is when you break the rules.
No one is breaking the rules, therefore no one is cheating.
If a practice is deemed unfair, the rules need to be changed before you can say someone is attempting to cheat.

How to love will fall faster and that damn Pitbull song is starting to gain again...hopefully it's a fluke and will start tumbling again. It will probably be blocked for #4 by lighters but a #5 should happen in the next two weeks.

leoapp- The Voice exposure definitely helped when the single first debuted- but then it dropped down. Once airplay started picking up, that's what pushed it back up the chart. But, Maroon 5's televised performances- sans Aguilera- gave it a big boost, too. Now, big pop airplay is acting as a catalyst for the single's success.
That top 20 is looking bleak in terms of up-and-comers.

The Voice made M5 (because of AL) and Xtina relevant again.

^Yes, just like Idol did for Ms. Jennifer Lopez- but that "relevance" didn't turn her album into a smashing success. The effect was minimal- one major hit single.

MLJ if released by M5 and/or Xtina last year would've flopped. That's all. While we're on "cheating" (as if) on the H100, how about GaGa desperation with 49 different state versions of Y&I? Really?

how many weeks has LFN been #1 on mediabase now? 5? It looks like she could stay on top for a while yet. Lighters is the closest threat.

KELLY CLARKSON - Mr. Know It All: 0.008 (+ 0.008)
Was expecting a tad bit more, but most stations probably won't start playing this until the 30th anyway.

There's no "cheating" on the charts- that's been established. Some like to think of it as that, but all it boils down to is one record label being more aggressive in marketing than another, and taking measures to help propel a single higher up the charts.

The Voice made M5 (because of AL) and Xtina relevant again. Misery went top 10 on CHR earlier this era so it's not like the group was completely irrelevant. This song just happens to be one of their catchiest, most radio-friendly songs in a long time. The Voice probably gave them some momentum, but it's not some miracle worker that can shoot an artist to top of the BB Hot 100 months after a song debuts. The song would have been a hit if released earlier in the era, perhaps not as big as it is now, but a hit nonetheless.

(Not to mention the last two singles from the previous era. M5 was on downward swing with CHR.) The Voice platform, plus the initial huge sales after the performance, likely made testing far easier. There have been many good songs that have been passed by because artists were no longer cool. I'm glad this brought both artists success.

I hope Christina moves away from dance and towards r&b flavored POP for her next set.

I hope Christina moves away from dance and towards r&b flavored POP for her next set. She's working with William Orbit so I still think there will be some electronic music on her next album.
