Isn't this her most successfull 4th US single since FTBOMBH, airplay and sales wise? Not yet, Outrageous did a 23 peak i believe.

27 24 BRITNEY SPEARS Criminal 2982 2486 496 14.426
+26 spins -61 bullet +0.026 AI
#54 on iTunes.
*cries softly while listening to a gothic remix of Criminal*
I really hope that they have learned from this to never release a risky single again if she's not gonna promote it. The epicness that this could have been!
So, when's the funeral?

First of all, I wouldn't be calling in the mourners just yet. This could still do something. Just because it isn't flying up the charts like the past three singles doesn't mean it was a bad choice. Not every song has to be a "ZOMG SMASH #1!!!" An artist doesn't build a career as long as Britney's from consecutive number one hits. Period.
Second of all, I really don't care if it does peak here. The song and video are both amazing and this was a risk that needed taking. It's not like another uptempo was going to sell FF any better than this and releasing a mid tempo at least shows the public she is not a one trick pony.
Maybe next era we will have an actual ballad to release and the public will be more open to it. I'm still waiting for that introspective Britney album post breakdown. I think a lot of people are.

Im so sick of people saying ''oh maybe she will promote it this time, or maybe she will perform it at such and such award show'' no its just not going to happen, it has been obvious to me that the only US promotion she would do was at the start of the era, and the only international promo she gave it was those crappy 3 minute interviews repeating herself like a damn parrot in each of them! - just take it that this is as good as it gets, lack luster performances, dissconnected interviews and little promo from her team. i dont want people next era to be like ''oh shes gonna do so good'' no, it will be the same as this. Thanks for yet another sterling observation. I'm fairly certain that most of us know all of that. Well ive seen plenty of people on here saying that maybe it will all get better and it irks me! Also i dont credit this song flopping to the actual song, i think its just the 4th single curse that britney seems to have.

Well ive seen plenty of people on here saying that maybe it will all get better and it irks me! there hasn't been much of any talk of promo for a while, short of people complaining about the lack of it. In the beginning, maybe, but then is it necessarily bad to want your favorite artist to promote? ...and logic prevails!

Even if this would stop now, it would still be one of her most successful 4th singles in the US, which is amazing for her, since she doesn't have a good chart history as far as 4th singles are concerned.

I'm thinking the more this underperforms the less likely they are to put out a 5th single...hopefully I'm wrong.

^I agree with you and I've been thinking about that quite often recently. She has never released more than 4 singles in the US from the same album and this album has certainly one or two more songs that can be hits, it would be a shame not to release 5 or 6 singles from this album, but if this is not a substantial hit, then I'm afraid 'Criminal' will be the last release off FF. Besides, BITM2 was released and that may indicate the end of the FF project , I don't know, only time will tell

I guess this is "risky" for this era, since it's not the dance-driven material of the last few singles, but, like said, it's not some dramatic shift away from a top 40 sound- it's midtempo pop and accessible. If this didn't have a video, then you could say she didn't promote it. But, it does (one that she expressed much enthusiasm for). Plus, acts don't really do much else outside of their shows when on tour.
What I don't understand is this... why wasn't the track part of the tour setlist?

That's what I keep saying, this should be on her tour, she always performed her singles Atleast, have that going for the song if there's no promo. The only singles that had no perfomances were BTI and MP, and there I can see reasons why, here I don see any excuse.

Yeah, agreed there too - it's messed up she's not performing this on tour. I'm really not sure sometimes what they are all thinking for promotion. Although, the video release for "Criminal", I felt, was handled really well. Ideally, she would come back to the states to do a performance or two, or call in for a couple more radio interviews, or something. But what can you do...At least the FF tour on Epix/DVD is coming up. Also, I'm still hoping for a 5th single - I don't think it could hurt at this point! I say it can only match or do better than what "Criminal" is currently doing, and one more music video from this era!

I'm almost positive that, at this point, anyone going to see her tour is aware this is a single whether she performs it in tour or not. There is a weird disconnect in her loving the song and not performing it, though.
I think if we get a fifth single, we're looking at 'Drop Dead (Beautiful)', if only to give Sabi's solo effort a push.

why is everyone so hung up over her loving the song, shes said that about pretty much all the songs on the album. i think if she releases a 5th single which im hoping she will then i think it should be Inside Out, its the only one i see being a seller which is what she needs, its a shame her singles arent doing as well as they did in the Circus era :/

^ Singles not doing as well as the Circus era? Both lead singles hit No. 1 (though HIAM had less longevity than "Womanizer"), the second singles both peaked at No. 3 and the third single from this album peaked at No. 7, compared to the No. 19 peak of IUSA. And, "Criminal" will outpeak "Radar." maybe on the pop chart they haven't been quite as successful (i.e. the last album notched two No. 1s at the format), but they've still done well- and "Criminal' has outdone "Radar" there.

I really don't see the big deal. Flop or no flop. Just enjoy the song. At least we have Britney on the radio and that is the most important thing right now. :)

its a shame her singles arent doing as well as they did in the Circus era :/ ..what? The Femme Fatale era is thus far proving to be one of her most successful eras from a singles standpoint. It's already more than trumped Circus.

Britney's label never released more than 4 singles from one album. And even though this is the best album when looking from the singles performance criterion, but look at the album sales.
When was the last time Britney couldn't get an album to Platinum with 3 huge hits?
I think the label will not promote an album with more singles if they are not helping drive its sales.
And when will britney release a ballad? seriously, she has passed over gems in the last 3 albums, and I have no idea why

I refuse to believe that this won't become the career-defining single of Brit I hoped it'd be. Still hoping for a top 10 peak eventhough it currently gets floppy updates. Sales are worrying me more though. I don't wanna see this ending up with 300k sales.
