^^That's fun also, not many artists can peak in every position in the Top 10, if I'm not mistaken Madonna has and she even has peaks at like #11-#14, but missing one in there. I'm sure Holidayguy knows. :) Well, GaGa has to peak @ #4,7,8,9 She´s got the (very hard to reach; do some research, only like 2-3 singles per year are able to sell just enough, but not quite to reach this position) #10 peak covered. What are the Madonna's singles/peaks?

Another fun fact is that if All Summer Long by Kid Rock would have gotten released on Itunes, if just for a limited 1 or 2 weeks, it would have been compared to My Heart Will Go On (if I'm not mistaken) which was given a limited number of physical copies, and their sales what was propelled it to #1.

The karaoke version of All Summer Long outpeaking Kid Rock's on the Hot 100 because that was the only one on sale, that was funny. KELLY CLARKSON - Mr. Know It All: 2.479 (+ 1.864)

I doubt "All Summer Long" would've gone number 1, it's airplay peak was when "Disturbia" and "Whatever You Like" were number 1, very hard songs to de-throne

Also, random thought: Hope Cheers (or another Rihanna song) can get 4 weeks @ #1, that way she'll have at least one number 1 song spend: 7 weeks- Umbrella, Love the Way You Lie 6 weeks- Live Your Life 5 weeks- Rude Boy 4 weeks- Cheers ? 3 weeks- SOS 2 weeks- Disturbia 1 week- Take a Bow, Only Girl, What's My Name, S & M
Has any other artist done this before :o

I see that she had at least one song peak for positions #1-#11, nothing for #12 or #13, but she did have one that peaked at #14. She completed the list by hitting #6 with "You'll See." Also, she comes close to have a number one lasting 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 weeks, but doesn't have anything (yet :]) for the five week mark.

Madonna's had:
#1 - Music, Take A Bow, This Used to be My Playground, Justify My Love, Vogue, Like A Prayer, Who's That Girl, Open Your Heart, Papa Don't Preach, Live To Tell, Crazy For You, Like A Virgin #2 - Frozen, I'll Remember, Cherish, Express Yourself, Causing a Commotion, Material Girl #3 - 4 Minutes, Secret, Erotica, True Blue #4 - Don't Tell Me, La Isla Bonita, Lucky Star #5 - Ray of Light, Dress You Up, Angel #6 - You'll See #7 - Hung Up, Deeper and Deeper #8 - Die Another Day, Don't Cry For Me Argentina, Keep It Together #9 - Rescue Me #10 - Hanky Panky, Borderline #11 - The Power of Good-Bye
She peaked at every spot in the top ten once You'll See hit #6, so it took her 12 years (1984-1996) from her first top ten hit (Borderline).

"I Will Always Love You" shot 12 to 1, I can't think of any other non-repressed jump to number 1 from outside the top 10 though Edit: yup, did some digging, Whitney was the last person to shoot from outside the top 10 straight to #1, without the aid of repression. So it hasn't happened since 1992.. Also, hadn't realized that only 2 songs (What's My Name & Break Your Heart) have been repressed to get big jumps to #1 since Boom Boom Pow :o ^I think that's more a reflection of labels improving their strategy of radio/iTunes simultaneous release, so instead we've had 4 songs debut at #1 since then (Kesha, Britney twice, Gaga) and some close calls like Katy Perry, Eminem, Rihanna. i thought eminem did pull it off with not afraid?

^Those usually occurred back in the days of "repression" and Idol commercial singles, though (barring a couple of Britney Spears' singles, which had bubbled under the weeks before they entered on top). It would be a little "unusual" for a single that's been on the chart for multiple weeks to just come out of "nowhere" and zip 19-1. But, that's the power of a strong performance on a high-profile show. And interestingly, that's very similar to what it did in England - going from 47 straight to number one following her performance at the Brit Awards.

Apparently the Beatles' "Can't Buy Me Love" jumped 27-1. I don't think "repression" existed then so I'm going to guess that is the biggest jump to #1 that wasn't triggered by repression or street-date violations. Correct. Repression didn't exist in 1964 when the Beatles jumped from 27-1 in their second week on the chart. There were an incredible amount of pre-orders for the Beatles' next new single at the time, and that is was caused CBML's big leap to #1, a record it held for the next 38 years. BTW, two years later, in 1966, the Beatles' made another big jump to #1 with "Paperback Writer" when it leaped from 15-1.

Yep. MHWGO - 600,000 copies were pressed just so it could chart; otherwise it would've had same fate as TLYM, which is a shame that it isn't one of CD Top 10 hits. Kid Rock won in the end with boffo CD sales, so he was happy.

You're right! So 5 #1 debuts since BBP. I was thinking of LTWYL which debuted at 2.

I'm still pissed about The Power of Goodbye, and Beautiful Stranger, and even American Pie. All could've been top 10's if the chart methodology at the time wasn't so weird, and then she'd have 40 top 10's right now.

POG lucked out by even making it to #11, it was not bulleted when it peaked the week before the big chart change. I think it's unlikely it would've eked out any top ten time. Beautiful Stranger however would've been a surefire top 5 I think if it had a commercial single.

"The Power of Good-Bye" peaked at No. 13 in sales and No. 26 on Hot 100 Airplay- so, yeah, a No. 11 peak was "fortunate." The week the new methodology kicked in, it appeared at- I think No. 30 on the Hot 100 (down from 26 on the prior week's test chart); it was No. 45 on the airplay chart (which was a gain of three spots from the prior week's test chart).
"Beautiful Stranger" could have been a No. 1 contender- a regular CD single release apparently was in the works, but plans were canned (the catalog number appeared on the dance chart- if asingle was not planned, it would have read 'PROMO," as was the case with "American Pie"). "American Pie" probably would have been a top 10 or higher contender with a single, But, those are two of those coulda-woulda instances, like exists with other radio-only hits from the late 90s/early 2000s.

I'm surprised that Lighters and Cheers' updates have slowed down so quickly.
MLJ is gaining more and more over Pumped Up Kicks on radio, and is also getting closer to re-overtaking the latter in pop bars. So...MLJ and Someone Like You should be the main #1 contenders for quite awhile. I can't think of any upcoming albums that would have mega-smashes.

Didn't American Pie peak within the first month of charting? I remember seeing it surge and then drop and didn't understand why...at this point I wasn't all too familiar about the methodology of billboard.

^"American Pie" was bulleted in its 6th week on Hot 100 Airplay- but then dropped thereafter. It obviously didn't fare well with listeners and such. But, had a single been released around the time of its peak, that should have been enough to get it into the top 10, at the least (as it was No. 25* in airplay in its 6th week- it had ranked 23* two weeks prior). Fred Bronson talked about it in the Chart Beat column that week, talking about how it was No. 1 in the UK and that anyone in the USA who wanted it couldn't buy it as a single.
Great gain for "Someone Like You"- it's now the biggest gainer on the 7-day-rolling Hot AC chart, and has soared to a +1,204 at pop.

looks like Maroon 5 might be the next #1 on airplay? Nothing else is even close, besides Lighters, but I dunno about that one. And it looks like Katy has a lock for a 6th week at #1. Can she get a 7th?

It was a similar situation with GTIG by Janet and Go Deep by Janet. The record company elected not to release these songs as commercially available singles and therefore Janet can count them among her Top 10 singles as a result.

^You mean, cannot count them. :) Like other "diva" hits that did not have CD singles, they likely would have cracked top 10 with a CD single, but neither of those tracks were pop smashes like some of Janet's other singles- they peaked at Nos. 36 and 28, respectively, on Hot 100 Airplay. GTIG did very well at urban radio, but urban was not part of the Hot 100 Airplay panel at that time.
2m- that could be part of the reason for its quick peak and drop in the USA (as well as the "outrage" at the cuts and whatnot), but it did pretty well outside the USA. The track itself is hardly an essential part of the Madonna catalog.
