I bet these are the same people that were predicting 700k for Katy Perry.

Lord, that was actual industry people too. I felt bad for her that week-no way she was going to sell 700K+ It is really difficult for pop stars to sell really well first week nowadays.

^ It really tells you how out of touch some of them are. A good number of the predictions are really out-of-wack.

Pretty much-I honestly think we are more accurate sometimes. I still think shipments are a fairly accurate tool though.

These first week numbers are from a new release schedule issued by a record label.
The estimates also change from week to week. Lil Wayne was originally 1 million, but it was lowered to ~766k.

Is this the lowest Mumford & Sons have been since their peak?

Looks like this will be Gaga's first week outside the top 20, unless I missed it falling further sometime before.

I'm glad Lady Antebellum got to 350k. Hopefully the underestimation means a lower than average drop for next week as well.

HE LEFT HIS CHART IN S.F.: Tony Bennett has had a number of chart-topping singles in his long and illustrious career, but the closest he came to a #1 album was 2006’s Duets: An American Classic, which bowed at #3 and I Left My Heart in San Francisco, which peaked at #5 in 1962. Lots of speculation that his latest RPM/Columbia release, Duets II, which comes out today, could well be his first-ever to top the album chart next week. (9/20p)
:o :o
The Amy and GaGa duets must have created lots of interest then! I've also been hearing that he's going to get alot of Grammy nominations too.

Both those duets were actually amazing. I honestly thought it was Billie Holliday singing when Amy sang.

I gather Maroon 5's album nosedived because the special pricing ended?
Nice finish for Lady A's album- and Adele's album just keeps smashing.

TB got Grammy love first time. Sorry round 2 is same old thing - Album of Year, Record of Year, etc. should be fresh on timely - not a sequel to something that has already been honored. (Kind of like Santana riding Supernatural three time. Yawn.)

denverd, there's a lot more wrong with the Grammys than that. :) But we know that already, so...
Would be cool to see Tony B. land a chart-topping album- though, of course, he probably wouldn't come close to one on his own at this point. Duets albums have given other acts their inaugural No. 1 albums on the BB 200, too (i.e. Reba McEntire).

Demi Lovato is #1 on itunes, Tony Bennett is #5. That is the best indicator so far

More than likely, Bennett's album will sell more physical units than Lovato's.

Probably, but that doesn't change my comment Digital is the reason albums sales are increasing this year. This means the itunes album chart starts to have some weight.

I think the worst abuse of the Grammys was when they unloaded all that appraise onto Ray Charles' last duet album. I gave the guy kudos for being a legend and recording so late into his career, but the album was absolute crap. Half-baked duets and poor ol' Ray croaking out off-key notes... it was garbage. You know the industry awarded all those Grammys to him because of his legendary status.
This Tony Bennett album isn't half bad, but I'd be very upset if it upsets Adele's achievements this year. And knowing how the Grammys have consistently awarded older acts, I'd say Adele should start sweating bullets about "Album Of The Year". She'll most likely win in other minor categories if she's up against Tony.

That's what I'm worried about too... I feel the Steely Dan and Ray Charles type of wins will strike again in 2012 with Tony Bennett for Album Of The Year.

Or was this just an excption for the 2010 grammys?

Beatles pass The Bodyguard soundtrack on the all-time soundscan list this week Well we know the bodyguard soundtrack sold more because soudscan wasn't 100% accurate back then and that album did sell more than 11.8 millions and not just because of music club sales. It sure did not sell 5 millions more just on the back of music club sales as it is certified 17xPlatinum by the RIAA.

RIAA is the best estimator available for older albums - true But based on Soundscan, Beatles move to #5 this week on Soundscan's best sellers of the last 20 years list Soundscan lists aren't adjusted for RIAA, since RIAA does not measure sales.
