I think she needs a break Bad. Her 3 singles after S&M haven't done too well, People are Clearly getting Tired of Her.
I most Surprised by the lack of Radio Impressions as They have been extremely supportive of most Rihanna Song in the Past.

MLJ will be #1 in less than 3 days, I think. I wonder how high Adele can reach at that time span. On a side note- Seriously, what's up with Give Me Everything? I mean, let it go already, radio!

'Give Me Everything' is looking to be the next huge, long-running smash hit a la 'Dynamite' and 'I Gotta Feeling,' or even 'Yeah!' and 'In Da Club.' You'll be seeing it around for a very long time.

How often do fifth singles, from the original album's content, do significantly better? Particularly after succeeding a under-performer and with no promotion...

Yeah...although I would love for her to take a break, for some reason I'm not tired of her. Maybe if the Rated R era would be been hugely successful it would be too much but since Loud is recovering the momentum that Rated R lost it seems like she has to put out another era before taking a break. I think that MD was only released to urban stations where it was a hit, not a smash but a solid it. CKB...well, she wanted it released and she got what she wanted. Cheers is ok. Just because it is not #1 hit doesn't mean it hasn't done well. I hope that with new songs ppl will maintain interest. Basically what should have happened if Rude boy was released as a first single from rated r.

14. RIHANNA - Cheers (Drink To That): 64.935 (+ 0.025) LADY GAGA - You And I: 51.740 (+ 0.264) OH Dear. At least one of those songs can say they sound different from everything else on radio.

I've already expressed my desire for RiRi to take a break- there would be absolutely nothing wrong with taking a year off or so.
I don't know if I'd say "Man Down" performed "well"- it fared OK at its promoted formats (rhythmic and urban), but a No. 59 peak isn't smashing, even given the limited formats.

Sounding different is a bad thing though. Everything needs to sound identical :/

^^Right? Especially the break part or whatever it's called, where it's not even RIRI singing....not really sounding like everything else.

^"Cheers" isn't some out-to-left-field-sounding track, though- it's straight-up commercial stuff. "You and I" is a different sound for Stefani Gaga, but it's also not some bizarre-sounding track for radio.
Po radio hasn't gotten anything really fresh or adventurous-sounding in awhile- would be nice if Madonna could bring something like that with the upcoming music ("4 Minutes" was so not either of the aforementioned things), but even if she did, I wouldn't count on big pop play.

Shame that Y and I seems to be Peaking, It was definitely a welcome change of sound for Stefani. Cheers has always been my favorite from Loud and it coming after two Flops (Rhi Standards) doesnt help its cause. Hope Stefani Bounces back with the next single eventhough i know the Album isn't exactly filled with Radio friendly songs. Rihanna need to come up with a New sound if she wants to avoid Public Burnout. Her songs seem to disappear from ones consciousness post chart Run, so for me it never really feels like she been consistently on for the last 5 years.

CKB and MD may not have matched the successes of Rihanna's biggest hits, but Cheers is performing very well considering it's a sixth single and the music video wasn't exactly promotional gold for the song. In addition, before the uptick in digital sales for SLY, YMMFL, Y&I after the VMAs, it was number three on iTunes. A song that gets little promotion, especially this late into the album's life, cannot be considered a failure if it still makes top 10 on the Hot 100.
I will say that RiRi's team is rushing this new album, however (not that I mind). But it seems mind-boggling that a new album may be out before the conclusion of the Loud Tour.

I think they have something up their sleeves. I think Riri is trying to do something majah and get it out quick while we are in transition with pop music right now. To put out an album before a tour has concluded means that the promotion for the new record will be limited and they will rely on the 1st single and the 4th quarter to give good sales...but it could be genius if that is all they need and then at the top of next year she can start promoting when sales are low and no on else is really out there. Watch her get that #1 album for multiple weeks after being 0 for 5...I see you Riri. Genius.

I assumed we were talking sound-wise...because if you're talking about the theme then there are a lot of songs about love on Pop radio yet Y&I sounds different from them all. Feel me?

And since she's scheduled to appear on the X-Factor, I can see it receiving substantial promotion in the case that she's not in the states. But I still find it odd that they're preparing a lead single from a new album when a single from Loud just entered the top 10 this past week. Anyways, I always look forward to new music from Rihanna, so I'm excited.

Rihanna and her label didn't actually take a risk though. Radio decided they wanted Cheers. Rihanna and her label just obliged.

MLJ is turning into a beast of a Hot100 performer. I suppose it will be interesting when SLY gets up to the same sort of airplay levels as MLJ to see how relative sales go then. I also suppose 3.5 million Americans already having SLY on the album would hinder sales.
