Well, even before her massive success of the album and single, many people had her pegged as a Grammy favourite this year. I think the latter solidifies it but the former is the basis for the Grammy favouritism I think. ok, that makes sense. i missed the whole conversation about her being a favorite before she blew up. basically, i'm sick of hip hop being left out of the discussion for AOTY. outkast's S/TLB was the only hip-hop album to win, and i think we all know why it won (Hey Ya was a very, for lack of a better word, "white" song that allowed the album to sell very well). Kanye never won, Eminem never won, Jay Z never won, Dr. Dre never won, Tupac, Biggie, Lil Wayne, etc. you get the picture. I think that'll change eventually. Hip-Hop has been fairly dominate for the last 10-15 years while a lot of the voters are likely some of the same people that have been voting for longer than that. Eventually, you'll have newer voters that are more open to that genre of music or can at least appreciate it. I certainly wouldn't argue that some of the names you mentioned above deserved the AOTY award, especially over some of the titles that did win. Though I think even being nominated (as cliche as it sounds) is a pretty big deal.

^It was a big deal when Lauryn Hill's album won album of the year- even she couldn't believe it, saying 'This is hip-hop music." That particular album pretty much was 1998's biggest critical hit- so it was one of those notable times when NARAS voters chose an album that actually was a huge crtical hit.
Not sure how Adele's album is going to fare on year-end lists and all, but there's no doubt it will get NARAS love, regardless. Same thing for Tony Bennett- not going to go down as a critical smash, but that kind of album fits the mold of Unforgettable... With Love, those safe, sentimental-type albums.

^Just reporting what's listed on the schedule. Does that schedule have a source because this is the first I've heard of it too and I'm HOPING it's true! Yes, a MAJOR MAJOR label.

It's not a re-release, it's probably the Live CD/DVD of the Monster Ball tour.

Taylor Swift also is releasing a live CD/DVD combo package.
So those numbers are from one label? And it expects Justin Bieber's holiday album to sell 400k in its first week?

It's the first time it's been on the NRS. I'm sure it will be revised. It's 5 weeks away for the release date of Nov. 1

It's a re-release without new music. Fans wanted a dvd and they are getting it. Just not on its own. (re:gaga)

Those Glee predictions are way too high. No one cares about the show like they did a year ago. I think Twilight could possibly do more than 90K though. And Buble will start slow but creep up fast closer to Christmas as he starts making TV appearances.

Slaydele will take care of that...hopefully. hopefully? Adele will sweep EVERY grammy. It's going to be ridiculous, lol. What's the record for most Grammy's at one show? She's only going to be eligible to win 5, so she's not going to be setting any records. However, she could sweep the top 3 categories.

Universal would be crazy NOT releasing the filmed Monster Ball gig from Madison Square Garden as a dvd.

Those are some incredible numbers for the top five and I really wonder how long 21 can stay in there...

Will Tony Bennett be the oldest living artist to EVER score a #1 album?

Bennett will be the oldest male to debut at No. 1, that much is sure- Bob Dylan (almost 68) held the prior record. As far as peaking at No. 1, I'd think 85 would be the oldest period.

It seems like it would be the oldest living or dead
Johnny Cash is the only example I can find that comes close. He died in 2003 at age 71 and hit #1 in 2006
