Avril Lavigne just ended her whirlwind “Black Star” tour and tells us that she’s already back in the studio working on what will become her 5th studio album.

“I’m in the studio right now and I’m working with another Canadian guy who is super rad, Chad Kruger from the band Nickelback and David Hodges, he’s also a super talented [producer] who did a lot of Evanescence stuff,” Avril tells us at the launch of her Abbey Dawn collection presented by Just Fabulous.

She also says she’s working with a high profile X-Factor judge, “I’m working with LA Reid and we’re all really excited.”

That will only further fuel the rumors that she is in talks to join the judging panel of The X-Factor. Though when we asked about the judging rumors, she simply says, “I already performed on the X-Factor and that was awesome.”

For now we can absolutely look forward to her new album, which she says is not as “young” but definitely very “fun.”

“I don’t think it’s as young,” she says of her new album, “A lot of acoustic guitars and pianos. There’s a deep message…it’s emotional, [but] it’s a good time because the album is a little more upbeat I think. It’s got some pretty crazy fun songs. It’s about living life and just like making the most of it and having a good time.”

I guess we can expect a classic Avril sound with some more guitar and a lot more fun. Sounds good to me. Very confident there will be a single by summer!

Yeah...i love GL. But I believe the new album will be more upbeat. And the "crazy songs" won't be like WTH or SMILE.

I would love it if Deryck is contributing to the album. I love his work on 'Goodbye Lullaby' & my favorite song on it is 'Not Enough'. The production by Deryck is so lush & perfect! His input largely defines the theme of 'Goodbye Lullaby' - Not Enough, Everybody Hurts, Push & Remember When. Terrific production from him.

The album sounds like sth radio don't want to play. I mean acoustics and piano sons ain't very popular in radio right now.

I'm sure I'll love the album, but yeah, if she's doing another Goodbye Lullaby (or anything similar), she won't be making any kind of comeback in regard to commercial success.

^ Normally I would agree, but I think the clothes she's wearing in the above pictures are actually pretty age-appropriate. I really like the white hoodie/black tights combo.

She wears things from her clothing line to promote it. Did you see how Goodbye Lullaby did? Girl's gotta eat.

What are you up to now besides this?
I’m in the studio right now, and that’s going really well. I’m in the studio up to 12 or 16 hours every day, so nothing else other than that. But I get to put all my energy to being creative right now and it feels really good.

What can you tell us about your new album?
I have so many songs, so many great songs. I’ve been doing a lot of new stuff, this record I’ve worked with a lot of people I’ve never worked with before. It’s always interesting to be like, “Hey nice to meet you! Now let’s sit down and write a song.” When I write songs all by myself I’m lazy, I don’t finish them, it takes forever. So it’s really nice to collaborate, and to work with the guys I’m working with right now, who are so talented. I’m also working with LA Reid; he signed me to my first record contract when I was 15, and now we’re back together again.

In general, what’s your ideal situation for someone to listen to your music?
Definitely in the car; it's feel good music. I always want my music to inspire someone and be uplifting and give them strength, so when they’re hearing it they’re like "F*ck yeah!" I want my music to be an empowering message to young girls. Not taking any crap from guys; just be yourself and stand up for yourself.
