^And beyond. :) There are lots of songs with relatively low Hot 100 peaks that went on to become well-known and enduring popular tracks. And, of course, some didn't even appear on the Hot 100. "All I Want For Christmas Is You" :)

If you wanted to link to www.google.com and the text to be "Click Me," this would be the code: Click Me So you have "[ url = the url to link to ] the text to show [ / url ]" without the extra spaces, if that makes more sense. :)

^Indeed. With "Into the Groove," the big asterisk is that it was released commercially, on a 12-inch, and as the track was climbing in airplay- and that 12-inch was certified gold. I wonder if there are any other big hits that were available on a U.S. commercial single during their initial popularity, that did not chart for whatever reason. I'm inclined to think not, but who knows.
Thanks, Slizzard, for the info. :)

TOTGA's video is expected to premiere a week from today. Assuming it kept up its healthy gains, it should be around 50 million in AI by that time. Lets say best case scenerio, Rihanna slows to start gaining around 1.2 million a day in AI, its total AI should be around 100 million.
That means that TOTGA would have to sell over 250k after the video to have a shot at the top spot, and around 235k for the Top 3 (which is more reasonable).
But she does have the Ellen performance that week, and the AMA's that Sunday? Things could get interesting. :)

^the AMA's are the following Sunday on the 20th. So she has 2 big weeks of promo coming up. Plus who knows what else after that...a discount, a remix, an acoustic version, a video version. ;)

Xtina's Dirrty flopped on Hot 100, peaking at #48 and it's still one of her signature hits.

Xtina's Dirrty flopped on Hot 100, peaking at #48 and it's still one of her signature hits. It only flopped in the US too, right? And I don't know if I would even call it a flop...that was clear case of a controversial song/video that made a huge amount of impact that radio didn't play because it was too much for them to handle. Just like "Slave 4 U". Iconic and a classic to many but it didn't do well on the charts either. Similar case with "Video Phone" too.

Other acts have had way more controversial clips than "Dirrty," and managed to fare pretty well in airplay. ;) (Aguilera hardly is a controversial act, though she probably likes to think so sometimes). That track did only peak at No. 48, but it managed 20 weeks on the Hot 100, if I'm not mistaken.

It mainly just kind of clicked with people at different times, resulting in a low peak, but good longevity.

Well she may not be controversial anymore and many may even argue to the extent of the authenticity of said-controversy in the songs' MV but at the time it was very shocking to people. Some may call it a try-hard video but hey, she got her controversy. The longevity kind of goes to show that it wasn't really a flop too.

"At Last" by Etta James stalled at #47. "I Melt With You" by Modern English missed the top 70. George Clinton's "Atomic Dog" stopped at #101. All of them much more memorable than many number one hits on the Hot 100.
Also, I'd say most people are unfamiliar with "Video Phone," REVOLUTION. I honestly only heard it twice and don't remember how it goes. It may be a classic to Beyonce fans but it's not a legendary song to most people.

Perry's sales will have to be BIG, though, to get to No. 1. What kind of promo tactic will the label pull this time? No way BFF RiRi will guest on anyone that could rival her No. 1s count.

She has the video, Ellen, and the AMA's coming up. Yeah, the sales would have to be massive to make up for the airplay gap, but I wouldnt put it past her.
