Expect to see Rihanna pretty high on Billboard's top 100 acts list that may come in 2013 for the 55th anniversary of the Hot 100. ;) On that one, Paul McCartney (including his Wings material) ranks No. 11. Since the 2008 list, Beyonce also has moved into the top 100- also possibly Black Eyed Peas (but not 100% sure on that one).

is that true?
i count all Lil Wayne's top-40 (solo & collaborations) and they are ... 55 in 12 years of career

Are you asking whether Lil Wayne would be in the top 100? For Billboard's decade chart (2000-2009), Lil Wayne was ranked No. 34. So, depends on his entries' longevity over the last couple of years. Of course, if BB does publish a 55th anniversary chart, Wayne has until then to rack up more hits/longevity.
Jay-Z was not in the 2008 list, and he had had a number of Hot 100 entries, too. He was ranked No. 23 on the decade-end chart.

Are there also spikes in digital sales the week of Black Friday? Actually the opposite happens, digital sales go down in the weeks leading up to Christmas; I think people hold back from downloading in those weeks becuase they want to wait til they get their gift card(s). Digital sales only spike in the post Christmas iTunes gift card frenzy week, and that's it for the year.

Please the Beatles had a distinct advantage over everyone else and the bottom line is if Katy or Rihanna can best a Beatle more power to them. Let's face it both have eclipsed the solo careers of every Beatle. What distinct advantage would that be? And again, Katy would be besting a Michael Jackson record if she does this, not a Beatles one. Eclipsing an ex-Beatles' solo music career? LOL So have plenty of other artists, didn't know that was such an accomplishment. ;) They had material with numerous record companies all released at the same time. And they didn't have the effects of piracy to contend with.

Well, in today's environment, every track from an album is, in effect, released as a single and eligible to chart the day the album comes out. Imagine the hits if itunes existed in the 1960s.

Unless itunes or Amazon has some sort of bizarre "black friday" sale on their single sales... like offering them at 99c or lower... I can't imagine people flocking to buy digital singles at the regular price just because it's Black Friday. I'd say there'd be less singles sold (unless there's a sale by them) because most people would be out in the malls and stores.

^^^Just looking at that chart re-emphasizes just how much music has changed within the past decade. I miss the days when R&B ruled the airwaves. :(

I don't.
Nice to see Enya in the top 10 though... even if it was playing off the whole 9/11 aftermath...

Definitely not nostalgic for 2001 music. I thought 1998-2003 was a pretty dreadful period for mainstream music.

See, and I thought that period was pretty tolerable. 2004-2007, though, was just unbelievably terrible.

Solid list, minus the 9/11 country songs.. I like the whole top 6 (with the non-Ja Rule version of I'm Real)
The others that I like (from the ones I know) :
11 9 32 IT'S BEEN AWHILE Staind 17 21 41 HANGING BY A MOMENT Lifehouse 19 19 36 DROPS OF JUPITER Train 24 35 4 GET THE PARTY STARTED Pink 27 16 29 HIT 'EM UP STYLE Blu Cantrell 35 27 23 U REMIND ME Usher 49 55 5 I'M A SLAVE FOR YOU Britney Spears 50 68 4 WHENEVER WHEREVER Shakira 63 72 4 A WOMAN'S WORTH Alicia Keys 73 78 3 IN THE END Linkin Park
This was before music became intolerable for me, the whole gangster thug rap era of 2003-2007-ish is what I dislike.

Looking at that chart brings tears to my eyes. Music back then was much more innovative. It's crazy how much its changed since. Hopefully R&B will dominate again.

Get Right was a worldwide hit and it was #1 in half a dozen countries, wans't it? But underperformed in the US. And like "The Time (Dirty Bit)" and "Run The World (Girls)", most people really didn't like it because of those irritating horns. i really dont beleive people didnt like the time. it sold 3 million singles. numbers speak for themselves

Everyone is always nostalgic. There is always innovation going on. The question is whether it's hitting the pop charts at any given time.

The pop/rock songs you mentioned were absolutely HUGE. Back in that period (2000-03 I suppose) there weren't many pop/rock songs on the chart. But those that did chart usually climbed to the top10 very slowly, stayed there for a long time and then took forever to fall off the chart. Many people are probably still sick of songs like 'Unwell', 'When I'm Gone' and 'How Your Remind Me'.
