The fact that Adele isn't out promoting, for obvious reasons, is limiting her sales. I assumed she was going to be everywhere on TV this holiday season and would hit 6 million by January.

Lord, you know someone's slaying when 130k eight months & 5 million copies on is seen as somewhat underwhelming.

They seem impressive for me just because everyone seemed to assume it would not have a great Christmas because "everyone already has the cd" yet it is still pushing 6 figures and could challenge for #1. I didn't really expect more.

Hmm, Rihanna's sales seem pretty low considering the holiday rush. She'll probably manage to sell 500-600k by the end of the year though.

I can't believe I'm looking at a holiday sales week. < 50k for a #10 album? Wow. The lack of blockbuster releases this holiday season is really putting a damper on overall sales.

I wouldn't be surprised to see MJB have some short-term longevity (if that even makes sense) with this album. She's recently released her albums right before Christmas, allowing it sell huge for a week and collapse on the charts after the demand plummets in the post-holiday lag. She seems like she'll perform well through the remainder of the holiday season.

I'm sort of disappointed with Adele sales. She spent the whole year selling over 100k, so I was expecting her to easily stay over 200k during these last weeks. =P The two weeks before Xmas she will likely sell that well.

I can't handle yet another "flop" sales season! last year the highest was Taylor Swift with 250K, when will those crazy 700K numbers Noel did ever come back? it's frustrating :(

I blame this years lackluster sales on the superstars. Gaga, Britney, Beyonce, Lil Wayne, Jay Z and Kanye all released their albums too soon. There's nothing left to dominate.

^Some of those albums didn't exactly dominate when they were released, though, either.
Album sales are down since those crazy number of SuBo and Groban. At least Buble is doing 200K+- otherwise, there would be nothing in that territory.

People complain each year about Christmas sales.
Of course sales are going to be down this week.
No new big releases and everyone shopped last week for the big new albums and for Black Friday sales...

People expect way too much. This album has to hit "the wall" eventually. Some loon at UKMix goes on and on and on about the album scanning 10 million. Not gonna happen...

Yeah, an album that's been out since February isn't going to be pulling, say, 400k+ a week during the Holidays . I doubt it'll stay above 100k in January as only new releases can do that now.. and the Grammy/ Valentine's Day boost only lasts 2 weeks at most. Once the label is done promoting singles off the album, it will start to fall away. And those are truly awful sales for Decemeber, YTD might end in the negative again 2010 Week Ending: Nov 14- 6.30 mil units sold Nov 21- 8.12 mil Nov 28- 10.24 mil Dec 5- 9.22 mil Dec 12- 10.20 mil Dec 19- 12.49 mil Dec 26- 15.08 mil Jan 2- 7.15 mil 2011 Week Ending: Nov 13- 6.44 mil Nov 20- 7.04 mil Nov 27- 9.77 mil Dec 4- ?? Dec 11- ?? Dec 18- ?? Dec 25- ?? Jan 1- ??

Yah- Buble could be doing 400K with the Power (and endorsement) of Godprah. Oprah herself could release an album and sell over a million copies in the first week.

Does Drake's 600K+ in its first week count as a blockbuster?

the ONLY reason for lackluster sales is that people steal singles and albums through illegal downloads.

the ONLY reason for lackluster sales is that people steal singles and albums through illegal downloads. I kind of disagree. I think the lack of major new releases every week from September until December has affected the numbers. Every Monday I'd look at the new releases list for Tuesday and a lot of the time I'd end with a "that's all?" The week before/of Black Friday seemed to have all the big names to end the year. Is there anything major coming out at all this month?

Is there anything major coming out at all this month? As if people have not been illegally stealing singles and albums for about a decade now But I do agree there were alot of major releases this fall and had they been saved for November then perhaps that would have a difference...I also think that alot of big artists released their albums earlier in the year or late last year or are working on the end of their eras.

Market saturation. If those big releases that came out during Thanksgiving week had been spread out over a few weeks, those numbers would have been higher.
Illegal downloads? Clearly not everybody does it. Drake just hit 600,000 for example

Clarification in regards to CD/DVD combo packages:
A title charts on Top Music Videos if the DVD content is greater than that of the CD content, or, if the DVD and CD have equal content and the label prefers it chart on Top Music Videos.
So, there ya go. :)
