A PEEK AT THE WEEK: Based on one-day sales from our network of music retailers around the country, look for Reprise crooner Michael Buble to continue at #1 next week, while Adele will surge back to #2. The week’s biggest new release will be RCA R&B singer Anthony Hamilton’s Back to Love, which is on target for 55-60k. Snoop Dogg & Wiz Khalifa’s new Warner Bros effort, Mac and Devin Go to High School, is slated for between 35-40k. A new Metallica EP, Beyond Magnetic, a digital release on WB marking the band’s 30th anniversary, featuring four previously unreleased songs from the Death Magnetic sessions, is looking at around 28-32k. Album sales were up 21% vs. last week, down 4% vs. same week last year and up 2% year to date. Track Sales were up 5% vs. last week, up 6% vs. same week last year and up 9% year to date. TEA (Track Equivalent Album) sales were up 18% vs. last week, down 3% vs. same week last year and up 4% year to date. You may now return to checking your list to see who was naughty and nice. (12/14p) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Blah sales

Metallica's new EP is #1 on iTunes. It should do better than 30k.

Michael Buble Headed For Another Blockbuster Sales Week on Billboard 200
December 14, 2011 By Keith Caulfield, Los Angeles
There's no stopping Michael Buble's "Christmas" album. The pop singer's holiday effort will easily spend a fourth week atop the Billboard 200 next week, according to industry sources, who project that the album will sell 450,000 to 500,000 copies by Dec. 18.
After only seven weeks on sale, "Christmas" has sold 1.52 million in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan, making it the year's fourth best-selling album. It follows Adele's "21" (5 million), Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" (2 million) and Lil Wayne's "Tha Carter IV" (1.8 million).
As for the debuts that will grace the Billboard 200 next week, look for arrivals from Anthony Hamilton's "Back to Love," Metallica's new iTunes-exclusive four-song EP "Beyond Magnetic," and Snoop Dogg/Wiz Khalifa's "Mac & Devin Go to High School" soundtrack.
Hamilton's last release, "The Point of It All" (2008), entered at No. 12 off a 133,000 launch (it was released on Dec. 16, thus profiting from last-minute Christmas shopping). The new album is on course to start with perhaps 40,000 to 60,000.
The "Mac & Devin" set -- led by the No. 10 Billboard Hot 100 hit single "Young, Wild & Free" -- could sell around 30,000 to 40,000.
The wild card in the bunch is the Metallica EP. The set is comprised of unreleased songs recorded during the band's "Death Magnetic" album sessions. Because of the unique nature of the set, and its exclusive availability at iTunes for its first week, it's hard to prognosticate what it may ultimately sell in its debut.

Buble set to sell close to what he sold last week? Color me :o I figured the album would drop, as it gained a lot on the back of his holiday special- plus, holiday sales usually peak a couple of weeks before Christmas. The power of Buble.

Yeah, Buble's definitely taking #2 for the year. And will have the #1 album of the 2012 Billboard Year for a while too.
He's also appearing on SNL this weekend and still has other promo lined up iirc.

#3 for the year for Gaga. Sad that week 1 still accounts for over half its sales 7 months later.

Let's not go to the pricing, but it's very common for anticipated albums to fly out of the shelves right away. It's just an indication of strong fanbase.

Didn't mean to throw shade -- I like Gaga. It's just a bummer that the album wasn't able to sustain much momentum.

It's true- one way of gauging legs is to look at what percentage of an album's total sales occurred in its first week. That, and its overall chart run.
If Buble's album does 450K, that would take him to 1.967m- and then his sales will drop, but he'll still have a substantial number for Christmas week, and then a big dropoff after Christmas. So, his album should be able to snare the No. 2 spot for the year.

Buble is like the meat&potato for the masses. Nothing about his music and himself worth writing home about, but he just keeps selling, selling, selling......

You could say the same thing about Susan Boyle, Josh Groban, etc... wholesome, non-controversial AC-leaning singers always do well this time of year.

www.hitsdailydouble.com/news/rumormill.cgiMichael Buble easily holds on to the #1 spot as he prepares for this weekend's SNL appearance. Adele will land her 40th non-consecutive week in the Top 3, just six weeks shy of tying the record set by Alanis Morissette's "Jagged Little Pill." Lady Antebellum gets an early Christmas present as Own the Night re-enters the Top 5. Here's how it looks headed into the weekend: Michael Buble (Reprise) 440-460k Adele (XL/Columbia) 260-280k Justin Bieber (Island/IDJ) 150-170k Andrea Bocelli Concerto (Decca) 90-100k Lady Antebellum (Capitol Nashville/EMI) 75-80k Nickelback (Roadrunner) 70-75k Drake (YM/CM/Universal Republic) 70-75k Black Keys (Nonesuch/Warner Bros.) 65-70k Scotty McCreery (Mercury Nashville/19/Interscope) 60-65k Amy Winehouse (Universal Republic) 60-65k Susan Boyle Someone (Syco/Columbia) 60-65k Jackie Evancho Heavenly Christmas (Syco/Columbia) 55-60k Now 40 (Capitol/EMI) 55-60k *Anthony Hamilton (RCA) 55-60k Glee Cast Christmas, Vol. 2 (Columbia) 55-60k Andrea Bocelli My Christmas (Decca) 55-60k *Debuts (12/15p)

Adele is just....lord. Can she do 300k next week? Christmas is on Sunday, which means we should see a very healthy sales week next week.

Adele should reach a new sales peak next week. I'm guessing close to 400k.

I wonder if Adele can get her best sales week to date on Christmas week, would be quite a feat (not that this album's entire run hasn't been impressive enough...)

I bet Adele out does this prediction for this week and clears 300k. I work close to a mall so it's not uncommon for me to walk around there during lunch. Everyone is always asking about ADELE. Actually, a lot of the conversations I'm over hearing are usually "I didn't know she had another CD" "What she has a DVD too?" She has out done herself every time we set a prediction. 4 million by year end, then 5, then 5.5 million...which she'll likely cross by the end of the year now. She's going to break that Alanis record easy. Her sales will drop huge after Christmas but so will every one else.
Adele could very easy dominate the first half of 2012. SFTTR is rising but won't peak until well after the holidays. The Grammys will be her show. A 4th single in the spring will keep her on the radio. Hopefully she'll be touring again mid year.

Hoooooooly shit at Buble and Adele. Bublé will probably have the years-to-come longevity to become an essential Christmas classic, while Adele has already redefined what it means to have a smash hit album.
I can't believe that in as few as six weeks she'll have as many weeks in the top 3 as Jagged Little Pill. Shortly after that, she'll be climbing the ALL-TIME top 20 of weeks in the top 10.
