Appears Stoney Creek is going risky with Thompson Square's next single. A very well done lyric video (on phone, so if someone wants to track down the link that would be dandy.) for Testing The Water, which is literally the only song on their album that is not a extremely radio friendly...this will be either like Pontoon, the summer song that came out of nowhere to be huge, or be their first dud single...there is no way this song will just chug along like EIKTA did.

I feel like "Testing the Water" seemed like it had been hinted as the third single for a long time, because I can remember reading things on here about it being likely as the follow-up to their current single. It's definitely a quirky choice and not the most straightforward choice for radio on an album full of hit potential, but I get the vibe that it will do well for them rather than a misstep. Furthermore, there's a few other songs on the album that I think would be less radio ready, like "I Can't Outrun You" or "Home Is You," than this one. I'm hoping it does well because it's one of my favorites on the record, which is a very strong set of songs, so that's saying a lot. It would certainly have a unique place on the airwaves in terms of standing out and hopefully making the impression it needs to be a hit.

First time I've heard this song. I would lean towards hit over misstep, although it's definitely a little risky. I think it's refreshing, would stand out on radio, and would be getting released at the perfect time of year. "Pontoon" is a fitting comparison. I hope it does well for them.

Sounds like the next Brad Paisley single will be from a new album.
Possibly this?

I did a Rate The Music survey the other day for a new Zac Brown Band song called "All Alright". The survey was just the one song but two different versions of it...the 2nd version had a bit of a swampy, snarly guitar solo during the bridge, but that was basically the only difference.
The song itself was pretty solid, and I'm assuming that since it was the only one on the survey, it will probably be the lead single from their next album. It was definitely very much in the vein of their past material but it also still sounded fresh and way different than most of what's out there at radio right now. I've liked all of ZBB's recent singles but after 2 listens I would put "All Alright" ahead of both "Sweet Annie" and "Jump Right In" but behind "The Wind" and "Goodbye In Her Eyes", but that's just my personal taste.

I believe it's from the Grohl sessions. I follow a massive ZBB fan on Twitter and he was disappointed that it wasn't actually new music.

The clip of music in that promo video sounds promising to me. Hope "River Bank" is a good one and his new era helps get him back on track with country radio.

You can unlock a minute of Kip Moore's new song "Dirt Road" on his website. I'm not sure it's enough to form an opinion of it, but it is a very different sound. It's interesting. Seems a bit disjointed, but it will probably make more sense when the whole song is released. I'm sure it will get a stronger opinion (whether positive or negative) from me than "Young Love" which was so average and 'just there' for it's whole run up to the 20s on the charts.

Casey James has a new single coming out in about 6 weeks per an interview he did earlier this week. No song name yet. Can't. Wait.

My local station, WXTU, has a segment at 6:10 called Razz Recommended where the DJ, Mark Razz, introduces a new song to listeners. Today, the song was "All Alright" by Zac Brown Band, and he said the song would "be on stations across the nation next week." A quick Twitter search shows other stations referring to "All Alright" as the next Zac Brown Band single as well.

A quick Twitter search shows other stations referring to "All Alright" as the next Zac Brown Band single as well. Not surprised. I did a RTM survey for this song (it was the only song) about 2-3 weeks ago. It's the first song on their Grohl Sessions EP which has been out since December. It will be interesting to see how radio treats it, since it's a) been available for purchase for almost 4 months now, and b) it won't really seem like a lead single because it's from an EP and because of (a). I'm curious to see what kind of plans Zac and Southern Ground have.

Dolly Parton's next single from "Blue Smoke" will be Home. It'll be available on April 22nd. Now if only she had a home at country radio this would be perfect!

"Home" is a perfect single for "former Country radio" meaning that if radio was like it used to be that song has top 10 hit written all over it. Too bad this is 2014 and not 1994. It sounds modern yet old fashioned at the same time. Perfect Dolly! I hope there is a video for it.

It's crazy how long it's been since radio turned her away. Like, she hasn't been a radio staple since before I was born and I'm 21. :o I wish radio would still play her though. I don't even hear her old hits, let alone anything recent. I'm very excited for Blue Smoke though. The previews sounded fantastic and I already suspect I'll like the new record even more than Better Day.

This is what I said in the Compass thread: I want Compass to hit #1 so I can move Lady Antebellum from #77 to #67 on the list of those artists with the most #1 hits. Compass is a good song and should close the Golden era out. A new lead single, please.

Canaan Smith is a guest on Kristian Bush's Stage It show at Thistle Stop Cafe tonight. He started to introduce a song he wrote for Jason Aldean 'Black Tears' but said while he gets excited others wants to record his song that "I'm an artist signed for Mercury Records. My first single is going to radio in two months." So it seems Mercury and Canaan are going to pretend his first single that was out a few years ago wasn't his first single. But one is coming from him. He didn't say a title or anything just it was coming. Thought I'd pass this on. Hopefully the source of hearing it on Stage It show is enough.

Yeah, I figured that with someone like Canaan, who's been waiting in the pipeline so long, by the time the label got around to him again they'd probably do a full-fledged radio tour and everything. Most radio folks will remember that he had a song out 2 years ago but 99% of the fans will think he's brand new so it doesn't surprise me that that's the approach Mercury will likely take.

It's also possible that by 'first' single he meant a lead single, since they may very well have scrapped his last single release and it won't even appear on his album if/when it gets released.

Considering that Canaan's first single didn't really do anything, it's not surprising they'd go this route, honestly. No different than when Brett Eldredge's second single tanked and they moved on from it like he was a new artist. Same thing with Eric Paslay with "If The Fish Don't Bite." It just makes a lot of sense.
