I think it's also due to the fact that songs only stay #1 for a week... When's the last time, if ever, a song was #1 for more than one week? "We Found Love" last month. ;) There's always been high turnover, but until the last decade, there were several songs each year that would spend multiple weeks at #1. Now, with maybe one or two exceptions each year, there's a new #1 every week. Anyway, the club play chart is one of the least "accurate" charts anyway. It's based on DJ reports and not actual play figures. It's very susceptible to manipulation.

^ We Found Love, 2 weeks And the last one before that was Bad Romance (2 weeks) in 2009 This like the only chart where Papi, Judas, California King Bed, Celebration, You Lost Me, Video Phone, Run the World, Louboutions ( ) have been #1 on..

Oh well shows my attention lately haha. But I paid way attention like all year and never saw a multiple week #1, so I was just like that's weird. Unlike all the other charts.

I just don't get why Billboard keeps that chart. It's pretty pointless.

To give current flopping divas and washed-up irrelevant 70/80's dance/disco divas something to fall back on? xD

They keep that chart because it is relevant to a sizable population of people, and represents a whole genre of music that for a long time was ignored on the radio.
I'm kind of the prime audience there -- the majority of the music I hear that I'm not playing on my iPhone/computer is music I hear out at the clubs. Similar for many of my friends, who probably would have no idea that songs like "Celebration" and "When Love Takes Over" barely scraped the Hot 100 -- in our circle they were huge.

I'd say the Dance/Club Play chart is extremely important. Clubs are a vital element of American music, and even though "club hits" don't always crossover to the radio or generate lots of legal downloads, they still reach a large population of music fans throughout the country.
For that reason alone, if a music industry publication like Billboard ignored what was popular in clubs, then it would do a major disservice to music industry professionals. After all, artists and labels can create viable careers based solely on what DJs and club kids want to hear. Take a look at Kristine W.: She's been sustaining herself in the music industry for ages without a major crossover hit, and that's because clubgoers and DJs like her music. All those number one singles encourage clubs to book her for live performances and encouraged her business partners to help her found her own label.
Similarly, even though "Celebration" fizzled on the Hot 100, its success in clubs demonstrated Madonna's ongoing appeal with her core fan base. That type of information directly affects concert ticket prices and other "non-radio" aspects of the music industry.
And the Club Play chart can be valuable for the casual music fan. After all, it gave Robyn a top 5 hit with "Every Heartbeat" way back in 2007, and that song went to number 1 in the UK. Avicii's "Levels" is struggling on the Hot 100 at this very moment, but it recently hit #1 on Club Play after peaking in the top 5 throughout the world. That's also what happened a few years ago with David Guetta and Kelly Rowland's "When Love Takes Over."
So... if casual music fans in the U.S. listen to some of the songs from the Club Play chart, they might discover the hottest pop acts months before they reach the American mainstream (or they might hear what America ignores while the rest of the world gets its groove on.)

Billboard needs dance charts. The problem is that the way they compile their dance charts is a complete mess. Imagine if the Hot 100 went back to the days that they just asked radio DJs and record store owners what their most popular records were. It would make the chart vulnerable to favoritism, manipulation, and all other kinds of inaccuracies, just like their club play chart.

The Dance/Club Play chart is extremely inaccurate. Paper charting is a major issue. Some DJs will chart a song even though they are not really playing it (how will they really know either way)? And then as soon as it peaks, they stop charting it at all. That's why songs drop so hard after they hit number one. And artists who are on major labels and can afford promoters will have better success.
Certain Dance/Pop songs that were obviously massive national hits on radio and the Hot 100 didn't even chart on the Club Play chart. All those recent hits like Cascada's "Everytime We Touch", DHT's "Listen To Your Heart", and Alexandra Stan's "Mr. Saxobeat" didn't even chart. The biggest Dance songs in the country were not represented on the Club Play chart! Things that make you go hmmm....

In recent years, I have rarely heard her music being played in the clubs and others have reported similar experiences. Kristine has had all but one single peak at #1! And the one that didn't peaked at #2.

For years it seemed like DJs were just reporting playing Kristine W.'s singles in high rotation to keep her #1 streak going (which went on for almost a decade).

Madonna is sure to rack up a few more #1's with this album. Maybe by the end of her Live Nation deal she can get to 50 #1's.

To give current flopping divas and washed-up irrelevant 70/80's dance/disco divas something to fall back on? xD But nothing is guaranteed. Even some supposedly surefire smashes underperformed or didn't chart due to poor promotion and DJs not charting those songs. In the last few years (last decade or so), remixes of non-Dance releases such as Pop, R&B, Rock, etc. songs have been charting a lot more than pure Dance ones. Even if those songs did flop commercially, there's always the possibility of them doing okay somewhere else. I've never heard of Kristine W or any of her songs before "Feel What You Want" and "Land Of The Living" are 2 most well-known songs. Patti LaBelle even covered LOTL on one of her albums with Kristine a few years ago. Kristine has never bothered trying to be successful on the mainstream For years it seemed like DJs were just reporting playing Kristine W.'s singles in high rotation to keep her #1 streak going (which went on for almost a decade). I would say that "The Wonder Of It All" is her last single to genuinely chart. I used to visit clubs quite regularly, and I heard her music get played on a somewhat regular basis. "Lovin' You', "Some Lovin", and "Save My Soul" are the ones I heard the most. Madonna is sure to rack up a few more #1's with this album. Maybe by the end of her Live Nation deal she can get to 50 #1's. Even a few of her last ones didn't get to number one. Some of the remixes were utterly abysmal and the promotion was really bad.

I remember back around 2004 when they used to play "Fly Again" by Kristine W. I was ADDICTED to that song!!!! She had a huge string of club songs that I used to hear, like "Save My Soul" and "The Wonder Of It All". But after she released that godawful "I'll Be Your Light", it was all downhill from there. Sure she did a decent cover of Diana Ross' "The Boss" after that, but any other original material was pretty forgettable. I guess everyone's run has to end at some point...

i know Ray of Light and Hung Up charted for 4 weeks at #1 each. Hung Up might've been 5, and set the record (at the time). Not exactly sure.
