The most irritating thing about BT is they had a perfectly suitable and catchy follow up to play from him with Slow It Down and let BT die an organic death, but instead chose to ignore that one in favor of this unnatural eternal life BS theyβre pulling with BT. Completely stupid. And Slow It Down is way better than Beautiful Things, at least in my opinion. I'm convinced that they're only keeping this song around because it's still doing decently on streaming.

I have to be honest that I'm not surprised about the latest rebounds that "Beautiful Things" has had over the last few weeks. I think the best should have been that "Slow It Down" replaced the former or, even, his latest single "Pretty Slowly" was properly pushed by Warner, but I think they're using the former as a tool and a strategy to push Benson Boone even harder for the music awards this season, hence the reason why they specifically submitted that song on the GRAMMYs, for example, and him as Best New Artist. Obviously, I don't think he has any chances to win any awards, but a nomination is still a nomination.
The same, in a sort of extent, could be said about "A Bar Song (Tipsy)" by Shaboozey and "Too Sweet" by Hozier. I use the term 'in a sort of extent' because there weren't any follow-up singles from any of them to the mainstream radio chart as far as I'm aware, unlike Benson Boone.

If there are radio people actually reading this board β¦ what is going on? Can we get an answer? Because this is wild and honestly embarrassing at this point. Nobody actually wants to hear the same song over and over again for a year.

For Hozier and Shaboozey, the labels are probably keeping them alive as long as possible knowing that a follow-up hit is unlikely in both cases so may as well ride the hit while they've got it. Beautiful Things is frustrating because they did push a solid second single that didn't do as well (Radio audiences are often confusing :/ ) and now they've seemingly decided to ride the one song instead of pivoting. Easy way to be seen as a one hit wonder when you don't keep trying to get another song in the public's memory.

Strange that they didn't cling onto Tommy Richman as well then (who I think is just as likely to be seen as a "one hit wonder" in the future)

To add to this, it seems like "Beautiful Things" is still doing great on callouts (at least what I can tell from Monday Morning Intel, it's actually #1 on callouts still) so it's also not super surprising for me that radio is holding onto it in addition to what you mentioned here.

There needs to be a point where age trumps callout. IDGAF if you're still #1 in callout if you've been charting for damn near 40 weeks. GET OUT.

Taste makes the top 10 and Sabrina now has three songs in the top 10. i think Ariana ,Bieber and Doja are the other ones to do it . looks like Stargazing is a future top 10 . i don't really like it much since i am bored with the Folk/EDM sound of the last decade . song is a hit at other formats which could be why it is taking off.
edit
also Birds Of A Feather with 5 weeks in a row ties with Hozier with Too Sweet for the year though it's weeks were not consecutive . previously Greedy by Tate had 8 weeks in a row which started late last year.

Is it possible they're just trying to lock a 2025 year end spot for Beautiful Things?

βAustinβ is, finally, going recurrent, pulling βCowgirlsβ back into the top 40. No purges, this week.

Simply not gaining spins next week would be enough to send Beautiful Things to recurrency, tall order

There needs to be a point where age trumps callout. IDGAF if you're still #1 in callout if you've been charting for damn near 40 weeks. GET OUT.What if people want to hear it though? Then play it as a recurrent during the daytime hours when people are awake to hear it! But after nearly 40 weeks nothing has any business still being in the top 10 most-played songs especially as a former #1 (in this case #1 six months ago). Dasha, who is about to go recurrent, hit the top 40 the same week Benson reached #1. Post/Morgan debuted the same week Benson ended his run at the top, and they're gone. Benson's own follow-up single has come and gone. Ariana, Eminem and Mark Ambor will all log week 20 today, and all three should go recurrent next week. That's at least six songs that will have experienced the entirety of their runs since 'Beautiful Things' hit #1 six months ago, and six songs too many. Callout be damned, streaming be damned, Hot 100 performance be damned. There is nothing to justify this, and for once Max could you please not play the contrarian.

Simply not gaining spins next week would be enough to send Beautiful Things to recurrency, tall order but since its got yet another bullet and rose up a spot from last week, it resets the requirements to go recurrent yet again

No. Benson doesn't need to be unbulleted for two consecutive weeks, since 'Beautiful Things' peaked in the top 10. All he needs is to 1) be outside the top 10 and 2) be unbulleted. The two weeks requirement is for songs that peaked outside the top 10.

Which of course doesn't preclude more hits even later; recall that Hozier's only other major CHR hit was nearly a decade ago. Sabrina Carpenter's breakthrough this year has been very impressive in terms of musical quality as well as commercial success, but three songs in the top 10 at once is a bit much IMO. The last time that happened was two years ago when Harry Styles had "Music for a Sushi Restaurant", "Late Night Talking", and "As It Was". AIW was something like the "Beautiful Things" of 2022 in that it would not go away for months and months after hitting #1, though at least Harry had more established popularity so it didn't feel as inexplicable. And if pop were like AC....there would be many more recurrents? It seems like AC is relying more and more on older titles from a variety of acts and eras and less on current or newer stuff. At least a break from "Flowers" and "Lose Control" should be coming on many stations in upcoming weeks as the sleigh bells start to jingle in the distance....

Can't believe Espresso could return to #1 as soon as next week. I'd rather have seen BOAF stay at #1 until DWAS or Taste catch up.

Beautiful Things is honestly such an unconventional song to be doing something like this too. I mean nothing about that song sounds like βradio smashβ on paper. His carnal screaming on it still jars me sometimes after hearing it a million times tbh. Then again, I suppose that could be why theyβre clinging. Maybe they think it makes their playlist sound different and βfreshβ (dead @ that idea for a song thatβs been smashing so long lmao).

What if people want to hear it though? Idk, I donβt see why people are giving themselves high blood pressure because a clearly defined hit is lingering in the top 10. On one hand, if people like it and want to hear it, whatβs the problem? On the other hand, itβs not like radio is making a concious effort to keep this songs on the chart, are they? If these songs dropped below #10 and went recurrent, they wouldnβt suddenly not be played anymore. So the problem is purely chart esthetics? I do wonder whether the overall low spin count for nearly everything is the reason why old songs are lingering. Back when the threshold for the top 10 was higher and the top songs were getting 18,000+, were the songs on top of the recurrent lists performing similarly to how BTs and others are now? So basically, a song peaks, drops to a certain point and then justβ¦lingers for months in that same range. So, before radio would play newer hits more but now theyβre spreading the airplay among more songs? Idk. Why are the songs in the top 5 not being played as much now as they used to and why is that not a bad thing?

As a measure of Beautiful Things' appeal, I've heard it not only on CHR stations, but with some frequency on AC, Hot AC, Rock, and Alternative ones. I can't say that of too many other current or very recent chart hits. (Too Sweet is another).

I'd hypothesize that the biggest issue is simply that radio no longer expects people to be willingly listening to it for hours on-end and, further, doesn't even expect people to change the channel if there's a song they're tired of. This has been building for decades, but at this point I suspect a growing majority of people playing pop radio are businesses rather then the commuters of before and the teenagers before that. While commuters may change the station if there's a song they're sick of, a hair cutting salon or small store won't. They simply want their customers to feel like they're hip by playing recent-enough songs that young people at least recognize and don't really care if they've already heard it millions of times.
The commuter audience is still there, but at this point I feel like it's mostly people over 30 or 40 since younger ones instead will turn on Spotify or some other music service. I've noticed that I'm actually hearing a lot more much older tracks than I used to and that could be to satisfy the remaining listeners who still think of Britany Spears or NSYNC as "new and cool".
It's kind of a sad state really. I always liked listening to the radio as a lonely teenager and feeling like a part of something because I knew a lot of other people my age were also listening. Even then in the early '10s streaming had become the norm, but radio still had a sway on things and could be used to gage what was cool. Now though, radio seems to mostly gage what was cool several months ago and connect listeners with out-of-touch Gen-Xers and annoyed service industry workers. The closest thing to get now to what things once were is probably the "Today's Top Hits" playlist on Spotify, but it lacks the excitement of possibly hearing a new song you didn't know about or an old classic. I guess it's all just the flow of culture and technology though and it wouldn't surprise me if something else soon comes to fill the holes radio left that simple streaming haven't filled
