If this kind of top 5 recurrency rule had taken place in 2022, then definitely there could've been a lot more fairness going on instead of 10+ weeks at the summit, then just a refusal to go away.

GWEN STEFANI "Somebody Else's" will probably make the top 50 sometime this week; It's already top 50 on the all station list. How? Kiss FM Los Angeles is basically the only station giving it good spins. A few stations probably gave it a couple of spins Friday and Saturday because of the album release. It was an extra on AT40 the weekend of 11/9 which means the 100ish spins from Sunday 11/10 are added to KIIS’s 40. That’s how it made the all stations top 50 this week. But without being at AT40 extra this week, it needs to be one next week for it to have a shot at top 50 again - or it needs 100+ spins from stations other than KIIS.. |

How? Kiss FM Los Angeles is basically the only station giving it good spins. A few stations probably gave it a couple of spins Friday and Saturday because of the album release. "Somebody Else's" was just played last night (Sunday 11/17) on a syndicated show call "The Vibe" which is played on a fair number of iHeart stations, I heard it on my local station KKRZ Sunday night. |

This wouldn't even be a thing if radio would just move on from things in a timely fashion. Mediabase shouldn't even need to implement a rule like this, radio did this to themselves.

As much as I’ve hated the ridiculous longevity of songs lately, changing the recurrency rules is definitely not what I wanted. “Top 10” feels so sacred, and now it just… isn’t :/ Top 10 felt like the perfect recurrent threshold. Making it top 5, means that songs will frequently go recurrent when they’re still getting power rotation spins from many stations. The old threshold ensures that enough stations would actually need to play songs going recurrent in a recurrent rotation. |

I wonder when the first Christmas song will appear on CHR and what it will be. Seems like the last couple years they were creeping in a bit sooner. I can imagine that something from Sabrina will pop in. and especially with the spin count being lower and lower, I could see it happening maybe even this month ? around thanksgiving ?

For what it's worth, the recurrent rule changes weren't limited to Top 40... There are songs showing up as recurrent under the Dance format for the first time.

Billboard’s rules are different though, right? Songs don’t even go recurrent after leaving the Top 10 on Billboard, they go recurrent after falling below #15. Beautiful Things for example is still current on Billboard’s pop songs chart, and I’m assuming they’ll keep Espresso and A Bar Song too. Which means tracks like Dancing In The Flames and I’m ok, it’s ok which are Top 10 on MediaBase may get blocked on Billboard if they happen to lose their spins before Espresso and A Bar Song actually fall below the Top 10. DITF is #13 this week on Billboard opposed to #9 on MediaBase, so if the bottom falls out below it this next week and it peaks at like #8, it’s Billboard peak will be #12? Bizarre.
And if Hozier and Billie eventually get removed here (PPP too which was on its way out anyways) and not on Billboard that means songs like Disease have a chance at reaching #7 or 8 on MediaBase but on Billboard will peak at #14.

The whole chart moves up 3 spots (undeservedly so, imo). I don't like it. Nothing I can do about it tho. If they're gonna go that far, they should just remove any song that loses its bullet below #5 regardless of # of weeks on said chart. |

Too Sweet will probably leave in January after the holiday freeze, I don't see anything climbing fast enough to knock it out of the top 5 before the Holiday freeze.
PPP is on the way out and will be sent to recurrency Sunday Dec. 1. As for "Birds Of A Feather" I am not sure when it will leave, either just before the Holiday freeze, or just after the freeze.

Taste might even be blocked by Stargazing?? It would appear so right now, but given how glacial CHR has been with the top songs lately, I wouldn’t be surprised if Taste still makes it after Stargazing’s run in like Feb or March or something. It just seems like such an inevitable CHR #1, I dont believe it will miss. |

At the same time maybe this will push pop radio to start vaulting songs up the chart faster, so stuff like Die With A Smile and Not Like Us aren’t hitting their peaks 4-5 months after their streaming peaks.

If this rule was in effect a month ago, “Too Sweet” would’ve gone recurrent when it dropped out of the top 5. And based on the “Heat Waves” and “Levitating” rule, the song has to outpeak the original peak to reenter. Since “Too Sweet” had already hit number one, would it have come back at all? Would we have had a recurrent with more spins than the number one song? Or would #1 peaking songs just have to match their peak in which case “Too Sweet” would have re-entered at number one. Regardless of which scenario would happen, it’s weird. |
