I know I haven't been keeping on this as much as I usually do, but when the hell did "The Hills" get that high?! :o Last I remember, it has just cracked the top 40.
The Hills started climbing like a champion since the very beginning, it follows the path of an usual smash, well, the path of when smashes had +200 updates and not current smashes, because lately radio seems to lose its shit with every fifth single release of a radio darling which is becoming a little ridiculous (in the case of this summer ... it was completely absurd)

Sorry but This summer ... showed exactly how biased radio is. There was an special interest for that song? absolutely no, but radio played the hell out of it anyway.
I remember clearly Katy Perry's Teenage Dream era, every single got a great reaction on radio, there was an interest in her singles, and all climb at good rhythm, what i find ridiculous is treating a fourth of fifth single like it was the first after a long long time. I'm not particulary fond of Justin Bieber or Macklemore but i find that spin increases more normal than what Taylor Swift has right now with Wildest Dream (and i like Taylor way more than the other two). In the end she probably will end number one (or near), but that playing the song like there's no tomorrow out of the gate is a little absurd. And the problem is there are other people with sales and great public reaction that radio is deliverately ignoring because they are no big names.
And then there's the people who are not known, they are not selling but radio goes ahead and play the songs like they were smash hits (at least for a while)
At least The Hills is a good example where the success of the song (and the artist) pushed radio to jump on the song a little earlier

It looks like Fire N Gold is back to the same old updates as before which is a shame. There for a while, Bea was starting to get steady updates, but now, not so much.

718 spins is the delta, now. Come on, Lazer. Just hang on for one more day.
If Selena takes #1 tomorrow, it would by far be the most unbelievable event to ever occur on this chart. There is literally no chance Selena trumps him overnight. In fact, given the weird dynamics of song movement at the top of the chart these days, even next week isn't a lock.

"Lean On" should have at least one complete, official week on top. I'm kind of hoping "Good For You" has at least one, so Selena gets a #1 on AT40 to make up for "Come and Get It" being shafted due possibly to which day's chart they chose, or a slow moving chart that week.
There obviously must have been some stunt or special circumstance surrounding "What Do You Mean", with such a big gain and drop; I guess it'll even itself out soon. 1D may soon be in the top 10 for only the third time in 11 top 40 hits, and "Photograph" finally goes top 5 (I was wondering if it would even make the top 10.) And go Fall Out Boy!
How will it be unbelievable? Because Lean On had number 1 the whole week except the 2 times it counted as Official?
No, the gap between LO and GFY is too big for GFY to overcome in one day. LO would have to lose like 400 spins and GFY gain 400 spins in order for it to happen, but that's not happening.
Some of the older Pulse crowd may remember, though, when that exact thing did happen back in 2004. Yes, I'm talking about that infamous week where "My Happy Ending" was #1 for literally the whole week on Mediabase...until Sunday afternoon, "She Will Be Loved" took it right back, enabling M5 to score their 4th week on top with it.
The kicker: Avril missed #1 the previous week by just 4 spins. On the week I've just described, the margin was but one spin greater than that.
Granted, songs were getting less than half the spins they are now (the panel may even have been less than half the size, not 100% sure)...but still. Short of a seemingly orchestrated move that would put Selena on top and Major Lazer out in second place, it ain't happening here.

Soooooo I'm really annoyed that Should've Been Us is in the top 30 on iTunes and it's losing radio spins. Makes no sense
Yes, it makes sense because the song was dead on radio before the VMAs performance. If that performance was enough to carry good sales for a good while maybe the curse could be reversed but it wasn't the case. It's the second time for Tori Kelly that the promo that makes her sales rise comes too late.
the fact that the public reaction was great when she performed live should make her label learn something, and maybe next time they could book for her a live performance at the right time

Maroon 5 seems to enjoy making unofficial #1s, given what Daylight did to DYWC a couple of years back. And I will not soon forget OMN blocking Gangnam Style on Billboard.
