But wasn't it more amusing to see the lovers rage when it missed the top of the hot 100 though. :kii:

One of the worst CHR #1s ever. God bless the Powers That Stream for preventing a similar scenario on the Hot 100. Yes, because Work and Panda were high quality number ones, sure

Anyone else starting to feel that the top of the chart is becoming more and more fabricated? First we have Selena completely rebound from losing spins to getting a nearly +1000 bullet that brings her to the top, followed by a -2000 the next week. Then we have DNCE do almost exactly the same thing after weeks of treading water, but they fall short. Then we have Lukas Graham almost slow to a halt so Mike Posner can stay ahead, just for Lukas to start making big gains again now that Mike has his week at #1.
I really hope we aren't starting to see country radio's practices transfer over to pop...

I don't think "Here" had a massive push week to the top that was influenced by payola (it only had a bullet barely over 300 when it made #1), but who knows, payola could have very well been the reason it even stuck around that long in the first place, as it had a pretty nasty fall in spins the week it fell 1-3.

I think any song in the Top 10 which has a relatively low rank on iTunes is probably heavily influenced by payola. I definitely think Here, and Hands to Myself were payola since both songs were relatively weak compared to the rest of the Top 10 on iTunes when they hit #1. Pillowtalk is definitely payola also given how it has the lowest number on iTunes out of all the #1 songs this year when it hit #1. #39 and #57 respectively. I've been predicting Pillowtalk to crash the last 2 weeks, but I've been wrong. Cake By The Ocean was and is still way ahead on iTunes.

Well you gotta take into account the temporary songs that shoot up to the upper portions of the iTunes chart as that also influences the positions of current top 40 radio hits. For example, with the Prince and Beyonce domination a couple weeks ago, there were songs outside of the top 50 on iTunes which would've otherwise been in the top 20

Yes, because Work and Panda were high quality number ones, sure This comment sounds discriminatory of non-mainstream cultures. Cultures that don't get as much exposure as yet another sad white guy. Work managed to infuse dancehall and patois into the mainstream, respect the impact. Are you kidding me? One is a Rihanna song which is the queen of hits, and the other a catchy rap song (there's tons of catchy rap song making top 10 on billboard chart) I'm a little tired of including race in everything (i'm european so i'm not that obsessed with the theme). If you don't like a song, you don't like a song, and Work and Panda are not particulary good (which is exactly what i was trying to say), yes they are catchy and i'm not denying their success, but they are not good songs (in my opinion, of course, everybody is free to think the opposite) And please explain me how rap is not mainstream. Rap is totally mainstream since the 90's. I could understand that using patois in a song is not usual, but Work is Rihanna's first single of her album, so it's quite obvious it was going to be a top 10 hit (and that being very pesimistic)

And about payola on the chart. I don't think it's nothing new, some songs are really pushed way beyond their real success (Selena and Demi are perfect examples of that). It's true that 7 years seemed on the way to block ITAPII, but at least Mike Posner's song had way more success in general than some of other pop's more questinable number ones.
When we get a different number one every week, and the songs dropping like stones once they reach the top like it happens on the country chart we'll get a reason to worry.
In my opinion the problem is too many station playing to death the same few songs, and the fact that a lot of radio stations have the same owner doesn't help at all

I'm European as well. Just informed. Like an Indian McDonalds menu that knows better than to put Beef on it.
Rap hits and off-center influenced numbers are still being dealt with criticism that they aren't "real music" from some corners and having their objective characteristics denied, while whiny songs like "7 Years" get automatic passes from these people for appearing honest despite their shortcomings and idiocy.

Even though this latest situation with the Mike Posner song seems suspect, at the same time we can't be TOO sure it was payola as "I Took a Pill in Ibiza" isn't dropping like a stone and in fact still has a bullet.

This couldn't be further from the truth tbh. Songs like 7 Years get plenty of criticism and the rap hits get plenty of positive reviews and worldwide success. The concept of "real music" is a purely subjective one. While I may not like all of them, I can understand the appeal for a lot of the urban hits.

I really hope we aren't starting to see country radio's practices transfer over to pop... I think it's not only that that IS the case, but it's also that it's particular players involved. When we also consider the heavy influence that iHeartMedia has on both charts, when we also consider that it's a radio company that oh, by the way, owns this very chart data provider, and have also slashed their panel sizes for callout sampling... Short, sweet, the corruption is absolutely and undeniably real.

Still quite unusually low relatively, even if I gave Pillowtalk 10 spots higher from the Prince and Beyonce moves, it still would be relatively low

Rap music gets a lot of criticism because rap has a history on violent, misoginistic and homophobic lyrics. When a rap song has not those characteristics is generally judged by its quality. And we are talking about USA charts where rap is totally mainstream. It's obvious that due its origins in a lot of countries rap is a marginal genre (like country or r&b) but not in the USA. 7 years is very far from being a great song, and the lyrics are too self centered to have a real impact, but it's not worse than Work or Panda, and that was exactly the point, that it wouldn't be a big drop in the quality of number ones if 7 years reached the top (something that it's not going to happen)

Wow, "Love Yourself" is staying for one more week while "Company" is headed to purgatory.
DNCE finally moving to recurrency.
Only "Kill Em with Kindness" has a 4 digit bullet below the Top 20.

Just like the country chart. Dear God, it's happen ed. :( Fixed. If it has happened, I must ask, who do you think will be #1 next week? Lukas Graham or Firth Harmony?

If it has happened, I must ask, who do you think will be #1 next week? Lukas Graham or Firth Harmony? Lukas. There's still an almost 3k gap between the two songs so I don't think that'll be made up in the next 7 days (unless Lukas loses 200 per day and 5H gains 200 per day)
