For some reason, "Bzrp Music Sessions" and, to a lesser extent, "Love From The Other Side" managed to avoid purging, last night. Had either been removed, we would have been that much closer to double digit territory for the #50 song.

Even so, Ghost managed to hold on to top 50 even with a -20 spin loss today. You have to wonder what's going on just below the top 50 for even that to be enough to hang on. Imagine if Ghost manages to survive another day! (Although there's every likelihood we'll see something else instead if Ghost is still dropping that much per day).

I'm not sure it's ever happened tbh - at least not as far as I remember. I'm used to seeing a double-digit spin count for #50 on HAC so to see it in the triple digits means the threshold there is unusually high.

This is a helpful marker. Unless there were other songs with 101 or 100 spins, there were 56 songs with 100+ spins last Tuesday. Since then, we had 3 Miley tracks drop out and now all nearly zero, two purges, and MOAC drop from 130 to 110 spins in a single day, and drop at least another 4 spins today. For this weekend, we have as an almost-guaranteed purge INHTMF, possibly Lonnie, and we have Shakira and FOB who met criteria last week but stuck around (and I think this post explains why). Nicki and JoBro provide some cushion, and we (or at least I) don't know a lot about how songs below #50 are moving and growing, but we really are coming up on the 100 spin threshold.

This is kind of an interesting subject to think about. If TikTok were to be banned, I don't think it would make people flock to radio again, since there's still streaming and plenty of other ways songs can go viral. I could see radio switching to a more Sirius XM like model where they automatically play more new songs from big name artists, and follow-up singles for artists coming off of a big hit. I think it's likely though that another similar app would be made without the security concerns of TikTok, so even if there was a period where there were no longer TikTok songs, I think we'd eventually go back to having some sort of app like TikTok. There are too many people that love the app for everyone to just shrug their shoulders and move on if it were banned. 

That being said, while I know TikTok songs tend to get a lot of hate on this chart, I actually think it's great that the app presents an opportunity for new artists who would probably never otherwise see the light of day to blow up. There definitely are bad songs that come from the app, but I also feel there's a lot of great stuff that we've gotten from it, plus it's created the potential for older songs (i.e. Miguel's "Sure Thing") to get the second chance at success.

There’s gotta be an American company that’s already devising a TikTok-style app that’s ready in the wings. Perhaps with better functionality too. TikTok is rather primitive imo for being so massive.

Social media sites like Instagram and even Spotify have adopted the TikTok model, it's a hugely influential app. If it gets taken down there's definitely gonna be a huge vacant spot where many similar apps are gonna come in and try to scoop up the market. I wouldn't be shocked if there's several already in the chamber preparing for the ban.

i tend to "scroll" more on IG and Facebook than TikTok anyways.
