I was thinking Dec 15 is when it will be eligible given the new recurrency rules, but I was not sure of the date when the Holiday freeze starts. So this has me thinking about “Too Sweet”. If this rule was in effect a month ago, “Too Sweet” would’ve gone recurrent when it dropped out of the top 5. And based on the “Heat Waves” and “Levitating” rule, the song has to outpeak the original peak to reenter. Since “Too Sweet” had already hit number one, would it have come back at all? Would we have had a recurrent with more spins than the number one song? Or would #1 peaking songs just have to match their peak in which case “Too Sweet” would have re-entered at number one. Regardless of which scenario would happen, it’s weird. Just wild to think about. Maybe anything can re-enter in the Top 5 now? Let’s be real, I doubt Mediabase thought this far ahead. |

I’m going to vomit if Stargazing and ICDIWABH are the next #1s and block Taste. The only explanation for that would be programmers are feeling some Sabrina burnout, especially after taking Bed Chem top 20 with 3 other Sabrina songs still top 10 (I really wish they had just slowed their roll and waited for Taste to peak).

They should've rotated Espresso and PPP out faster really. And I need Bed Chem to really get going soon so there's room for Juno afterwards

Are "Please Please Please," "The Door," and "Birds of a Feather" all going recurrent this week based on the new rules? They're all below #5 and have all been on the chart more than 20 weeks.
I hope "Disease" doesn't get dropped after only four weeks but I wouldn't be surprised. Interscope doesn't really participate in the radio shenanigans that several other labels do to keep songs that aren't connecting on the charts for 10+ weeks.

I don't think they've upped the recurrency threshold from top 10 to top 5, unless and until we see that happen could people please stop acting like that's what's happening because we literally don't even know what's up. Unless I've missed something Mediabase hasn't even told us what their rule update was.

Also, ABS(T) and Espresso were both over 26 weeks on the chart, not just the 20 week threshold from the actual known recurrent rules.

I think Die With A Smile will hold on atleast another week or two because of the record breaking streaming (probably has great call outs at this point too), afterwards I think Stargazing is going to be number one for quite a while. Myles Smith doesn’t have any other songs CHR plays unlike Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars. Taste could get #1 for a week or so somewhere in between but other than that I don’t think any other songs on the chart have #1 potential.

So this has me thinking about “Too Sweet”. If this rule was in effect a month ago, “Too Sweet” would’ve gone recurrent when it dropped out of the top 5. And based on the “Heat Waves” and “Levitating” rule, the song has to outpeak the original peak to reenter. Since “Too Sweet” had already hit number one, would it have come back at all? Would we have had a recurrent with more spins than the number one song? Or would #1 peaking songs just have to match their peak in which case “Too Sweet” would have re-entered at number one. Regardless of which scenario would happen, it’s weird. It’s a completely stupid decision. It’s not going to make CHR play newer songs in heavy rotation, it’s just going to mean that songs can get into the top ten now with ridiculously low spin totals. Does a low spin count song deserve to be in the top 10 just because there are 5 dinosaurs in the top 10 that now go recurrent under the new rules? No, I don’t see how it does. CHR obviously doesn’t want to play it like a top ten song at the end of the day. Anyway, it’s also irritating they would mess with the long history of the chart knowing that it will be impossible for most records to ever be broken now. It’s unlikely that any of these points matter when the chart is meant to show the most played currents and the decision was likely made that songs were holding on at higher levels of airplay than ever, thus hindering ‘current’ song performance. These longer lasting songs are likely seen as outliers. They don’t stop existing and the numbers are still recorded on other versions of the chart, just not this one. Songs with certain spin counts “deserving” placements or chart records are all arbitrary things people get from reading the chart and otherwise don’t matter and shouldn’t matter as for how the chart is measured. Also, don’t forget. The chart has has varying levels of recurrent rules. Before it was a top 10 threshold, it was top 20. Before that it was top 25 but only songs 26 weeks or more. Chart records still got broken after those went into place. We could still see longevity records to the point where, in another 5 or 8 years, the rule becomes any song below #1 over a certain number of weeks. |

I actually think the rules were misinterpreted. Of course, I could be misinterpreting them too, but I might as well share my theory. So besides the normal recurrency rule, i believe that there is one for within the top 10. Pretty much same rules as the normal one. After spending 20+ weeks in the top 10 and you're unbulleted, if you're not in the top 5, you're going recurrent. I looked back at the charts to see if there's any evidence to support my claim. And I noticed that Espresso had well over 20 weeks in the top 10 and Bar Song just hit 20 weeks the week before it dropped. Also, if this new rule being spread online was true, then PPP would've gone recurrent alongside Espresso and Bar Song. PPP only has about 18-19 weeks in the top 10 so it'll drop sometime either before the freeze or right after it. The Door only has about 2 weeks in the top 10 right now, so I don't see it going away immediately. And Birds Of A Feather only has about 16 weeks in the top 10, so I think the only way it drops is if it falls out the top 10 or if it's past 20 weeks. And that's my interpretation of this new Mediabase rule. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong, but I just wanted to share how I think this new chart rule works. But at the end of the day(for now), it's just a theory...A MEDIABASE THEORY! |

It could just as easily be that they made an additional rule that if you're 25+ weeks on chart and below #5, then you're gone if you're unbulleted (and the new rule has nothing to do with weeks charted in the top 10 specifically).
The thought occurred to me, that they absolutely did not lower the threshold from top 10 to top 5, because if that had been the case then 'Please Please Please' would also have gone recurrent because that song has charted for more than 20 weeks in total and was also outside the top 5. So she beats the 20-week rule by still being top 10, but she would also beat a potential 25-week rule because she hasn't hit that milestone yet.
If it's just a new 25/5 rule, then nothing currently eligible will be going recurrent this week - because none of Billie/Sabrina/Teddy have charted for 25 weeks yet, and Hozier beats it because he'll still be top 5 come Sunday (only Taylor can pass him, and then the next bulleted song after that is The Weeknd, who is several thousand spins away.
