Carrie Underwood | "Blown Away" Era

Blown Away is #111 #102 on iTunes right now. The song seems to do well for the album too, which currently is at #37 #31. It's climbed a lot in the past few days. Quite impessive, given the song's minimal airplay.

Fan's thought of the BA video concept. Not the official synopsis.

Blown Away video concept.

(Note, the Carrie in house is not singing. There is another Carrie standing outside in the middle of the street singing the lyrics with her band behind her.)

The video opens with heavy rains. People in town running with newspapers over their heads to their cars, a lady’s umbrella gets turned inside out. The camera is zipping to different parts of the city showing people trying to deal with the storm.

The camera then zooms out of the city down a road to a big farm. It isn’t raining there, but you can see the lightning clouds coming towards the house.

The first verse starts and the camera zooms into the house. There’s an old man laying on the couch, passed out as if he were watching TV. The emergency weather service is is on the TV. Between the TV and the couch stands Carrie. Holding a picture frame and flashlight. When Carrie sings “those storms clouds gather in her eyes,” the camera zooms into her face and her eyes are watering, but she’s not crying. She shakes her head in a disgusted way, looks away from him. At the line “the weatherman called for a Twister,” she shuts the TV off and walks away.

The camera goes out to the street and you see the band playing and Carrie is singing “there’s not enough rain in Oklahoma…” It goes back and forth between this and the Carrie in the house collecting all of the pictures off the walls and scrapbooks. You can see the dad still passed out on the couch and the girl walks up the stairs to her room.

When the chorus starts, the camera is switching between Carrie with her band outside (the winds have picked up a bit at this point) and Carrie in her room tearing it to pieces. She’s tearing up pictures of her dad, throwing her clothes, etc.

When the chorus ends and Carrie hits the high “Blown AWAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYY,” the clouds are now really dark, her hair is blowing wildly and a single lightning bolt strikes near the band, tearing the ground up. It’s like Carrie is controlling the weather.

As the second verse starts, it zooms back into the girls room. As soon as she starts crying, it starts raining lightly outside on Carrie and the band. The winds are still blowing. It starts showing people around the neighborhood running into their cellars, gathering their kids and just kind of panicking. Carrie (the inside one) sees her father still sleep on the couch. She picks up a whiskey bottle and takes a big drink of it and wipe sher mouth.

When the second chorus starts it’s really raining hard and lightning everywhere. The band is playing really hard and you can see water everywhere bounding off the drums and dripping from Carrie’s hair and she bounces while singing.

For the rest of the video, it zooms between the storm progressing, eventually with a tornado touching down right behind the band and ripping up the house and the inside Carrie who is sitting in a chair in the basement with the light right above dangling and swaying as if the house was moving. There are lots of shots of the house be ripped apart by this storm, with pictures flying everywhere etc.

At the end of the song, Carrie emerges from the basement and the entire house is gone, except for an empty couch.

Maybe they are timing it so it could give as much effect to sales as possible? BA could be pretty high by then, and if the video is as good as it looks, the song could zoom up Itunes.

With those minimal airplay , BA is almost inside top 100. I really hope this will be Carrie's next top 10 Billboard 100. Long Live Carrie!

Pontoon is a lead single.

Pontoon has like 19 million AI while BA (the second single) has 6 million AI.

Why do we always have to compare her sales to others? It has already sold over 200k, it's helping the album, at least on iTunes, and the song is almost top 100 and all that without huge airplay or a video. It's doing great.

IIRC, "Pontoon" got a boost from LBT's performance at the CMT Awards and then consistently remained high on iTunes as airplay increased (now at 18.911M AI). On the other hand, as Carrie disappeared from the American public's view as she toured overseas, "Blown Away" dropped below the top 200 all-genre songs. It re-appeared and continued to rise as BA continued to gather airplay and is now just outside the top 100 on iTunes with only 5.898M AI airplay. So no, BA's iTunes progress is not like "Pontoon"'s situation and yes, the immediate visible iTunes impact of the limited but growing airplay seems like a good indicator of how impactful a single BA is, especially when considered with how BA already sold 200k from just 2 performances prior to getting any airplay at all.

I have no idea. But I don't think it will be a huge crossover smash. I hope I'm wrong, but "Good Girl" didn't even do all that well at Hot AC despite being sent there. "Blown Away" should do better than "GG" outside of country, but at this point I don't see it being the huge hit some are expecting. I think it will do well at country and then maybe go top 20 at some adult formats.

If if does what you are saying here....imo that makes it a pretty big hit. Most songs played in the Country Genre get zero crossover success. If it gets as much as GG then in my mind it's better than most songs being played on country radio right now. The biggest reason it will not be a HUGE crossover hit is strictly because the label isn't going to promote it as such. It has nothing to do with the song itself.

To date sales of her previous 3 albums as of 25/6/2012:

Blown Away falls out of the top 100 albums chart this week. So I'll leave you all with this info for the last time, until it charts again (if it does).

Carrie has sold ~16k albums so far this era in the UK. Carrie has sold a total of ~84.5k albums in the UK.

Update on the protest against Carrie. The counterprotesters outnumbered the Westboro Baptist protesters. LOL!

Westboro Baptist's Nashville protest is short-lived

Members of Westboro Baptist Church were outnumbered by counterprotesters at Cross Point Church on Sunday and left within minutes of arriving.

News of the Westboro Baptist members’ plans to picket at the Charlotte Avenue church flooded social media sites, resulting in a counterprotest of about 150 people. Local protesters held up a 50-foot sheet of black plastic to shield Westboro members’ picket signs from being seen by Cross Point parishioners. Westboro members returned to their cars and left the area.

“We are not going to welcome hate in our city,” said Jason Steen, who rallied counterprotesters together via Facebook. Steen is not affiliated with Cross Point Church.

“The church services were never interrupted because they were gone before people were coming in or out. If they are going to come back to town, we will be there to spread a message of love and protect the people who they come to protest against,” he said.

Kansas-based Westboro has attracted national attention and sparked outrage for its anti-gay protests at the funerals of U.S. military members. The group came to Nashville to picket country music singer Carrie Underwood’s support for same-sex marriage and the “false prophets of Nashville who taught her to love,” its website said.
