This is one of the HUGEST news of her career, for sure... and she's so brave, considering it's 3h of LIVE TV!! I remember watching the Will & Grace live episodes, and also the 30 Rock ones and they are NOT easy... haven't seen anything as big as that live, so if anyone knows of something to compare to, it would be cool...
and since it's being produced by those big names in the industry, I'm pretty sure Carrie will be guided on both her acting and singing!!

Jamie Bell (who played Billy Elliot, and some other movies):
@1jamiebell Good luck Carrie Underwood. I shall say nothing further on the subject.

People always underestimate what Carrie is capable of. I'm sure she will be training for this hardcore once the tour is over. Very exciting news!

Carrie doesn't do anything without extensive preparation and caution. Hopefully she does an amazing job and that puts her at the top of the list to play Glinda for a Wicked movie. I believe the producers are some of the people responsible for casting Daniel Radcliffe as the lead of a Broadway musical and he did much better than anyone expected, so these are people familiar with unearthing potential and seeing past normal showbiz prejudices.

Well it's alot easier to teach a vocalist how to act than an actor how to sing. I see that they are looking at the first broadway play of the Sound of Music as their model as opposed to the movie version....that makes sense.

I damn near shat myself when I read that Carrie will play Maria Von Trapp. Her classical vocals are perfect. The technical component of her voice is at it's absolute best when she sings in this style. I literally cannot wait!

I wonder if Carrie seeked the part or was offered it... and if she auditioned, either way!! I haven't a clue, but I'm feel as if Carrie's people were contacted first considering the enthusiasm exuded by the NBC officials and producers. Just seems like they're VERY happy to the point where they scored someone they really wanted to play the part... I'm just taking a shot in the dark saying that, but I wouldn't doubt it. I also wonder if she had to audition at all?

Guess I am not alone in thinking Carrie would be perfect as Glinda in Wicked. Would love to see and hear her do "No One Mourns the Wicked," and "Popular."

Honestly, people can dispute her acting chops, fine. We've never seen her in a role like this, so it's true we don't have much to base it on. But to call her an auto-tuned karaoke singer? That's just laughable and I can't take anyone with those types of comments seriously.
There's no way Carrie would've signed on to this if she didn't think she could do it. I have no doubt in her vocal ability - I'm only nervous about the acting chops (especially with it being live). But I'm sure she'll be doing lots of training an have an acting coach, and I've no doubt she's going to work her butt off. She is a perfectionist, after all.
I doubt she'll start working on the next album until early-mid 2014 now, maybe with an early 2015 release? I don't know if there'd be enough time to get it done for the holiday 2014 season.

Why couldn't she get an album out by late 2014? For one, it seems like this is a one-off performance so I doubt she will work only on this for months and months. Regardless, even if she didn't start a new album until the start of 2014, she could have it wrapped by the end of the year. Some artists make an album in 3 months.
Anyway, I hope this means a lot of singles from BA if there won't be an album for at least 2 more years. 6-7 singles would be great.

I hope not. Carrie has an amazing voice, but not one high enough to play Glinda.
I'm still very glad she got this role though. I'll definitely be watching.

That's very true, it just depends on if Carrie wants to take her time with the album like she did with 'Blown Away,' or if she can get it written and recorded quickly. She seems like she prefers to focus on one project at a time, which is why she doesn't write songs while she's on tour. I figured working on The Sound of Music would be much the same - she'd be focused on her preparation for that, and not songwriting. I'd imagine she might want to take some time off in the beginning of 2014, then start writing in February or March. Spend a few months doing that, and then record. I suppose it's entirely possible to have it out by the holidays in 2014, now that I think about it. Just depends on how much time Carrie wants to spend on it and what else she has planned in her busy schedule.

This an incredible opportunity for Carrie. I'm thrilled for her, and respect her for a lot for taking this on. So many people in the entertainment industry don't seem to take risks and just stick with what they know. I love that Carrie isn't afraid to step out of her comfort zone and try something new.
I know that every artist has haters, but it still kind of amazes me that people say negative things about her as a singer. From a technical standpoint, she's damn near flawless, and she's had no vocal training. She actually does this kind of music as well as she does her own, too. Her cover of "The Sound Of Music" from Movies Rock is amazing.
We haven't seen much of her as an actress, but give her a chance. It still bugs me to no end that some people still think she's some Idol Barbie because she was a talent show 7 years ago. Hopefully this role will do a lot to dispel those myths about her, because I think she deserves it, and I believe she can pull it off.

It airs in the holiday season of 2013. Carrie has over one year to get those acting chops in line and vocally-adjusted for the songs.
Nobody can judge a damn thing until they see the entire show next year, so some just need to shut the fuck up.

Went to the Blown Away concert last night here on Long Island, and it was absolutely amazing. I had the chance to meet Carrie again for the 3rd time, and she was a sweetheart as usual.
But the best part of the night was when Carrie got onto this little floating stage, which moved across the crowd. We had floor seats, and she was literally right above my head. She waved to me, but I had my glasses on which I normally don't wear, so I wasn't sure if she realized it was me. Then, just as I put my phone down (I was taking videos), she got closer to where I was standing and noticed me. Her eyes got all big and she pointed and waved to me while smiling, and then pinched her shirt, as a way of acknowledging the custom t-shirt I made for the concert (that she saw during our meet & greet earlier). It was a shirt that said "Chicks dig dudes that listen to Carrie Underwood" on it. Everyone around me was staring at me, they couldn't believe Carrie actually singled me out. Even my cousins I was with were in awe. What an amazing experience. Carrie never lets her fans down!

Fred Bronson @fredbronson @carrieunderwood More than approve. It is truly perfect casting. The actors from the movie are all thrilled, particularly Nicholas Hammond (Friedrich) and Heather Menzies (Louisa). Everyone I spoke to in the last 24 hours told me they thought you would be the perfect Maria. There are very few people who could take on this iconic role. This was meant to be. So happy, thrilled and excited for you.
Belinda Thomas @belindaslamusic @fredbronson I thought of you as soon as I heard this. Did you suggest her or was it just fate?
Fred Bronson @fredbronson @belindaslamusic Fate, absolutely! I had no idea when I gave her a book signed by the 7 SOM actors, 2 weeksd ago today. It's perfect casting

According to multiple sources on twitter, Carrie brought out the PS22 Chorus to sing So Small with her at her show in Newark tonight. Hopefully a video pops up.

She doesn't perform "So Small" in her BA set unfortunately, and it's my all-time favorite song... I'm glad to see it making an appearance, even if it's for only one time.
