While I jumped out of my seat when she won her Country Vocal, I was so disappointed that she didn't BA full out and a epic arrangement like the original. Maybe she thought she had done it so many times that way, it was time for something new. Overall-- happy for her with BA getting both the songwriter's award and her performance award. I knew the song was gonna be good for her when I first heard it. Awesome!

I didn't watch the Grammys. Did she win on television or was it in the pre-show?

Instant Grammy Review: Carrie Underwood, “Blown Away” and “Two Black Cadillacs”
Posted by Samantha Martin on 02/10/2013 at 10:59 PM News
The Popdust Files: Carrie Underwood, Grammys 2013
Q: How do you make Taylor Swift seem like an absolute amateur?
A: Have Carrie Underwood sing live within the same 2.5 hour span.
As is of course tradition, Carrie was introduced via song by Hunter Hayes. After the rather lovely little intro, lights came up on Carrie wearing a dress we’re almost certain was formerly worn by Glinda the Good Witch of the North. We’d later learn that this dress wasmagic.
Carrie opened with single “Blown Away,” to which we naturally replied, “No, Carrie, we are.” Does anyone else’s voice possess such an effortless and controlled cry? With a song is as ubiquitous as this, it’s usually jarring for our ears to hear anything different or anything less. Somehow, Carrie’s vocal performance was even more polished than the recording.
Turns out our capacity to be blown away wasn’t even close to being met. On the first note of her second song, “Two Black Cadillacs,” her dress came alive. At first, it was just a stationary glowing pattern, no big deal. Cut to verse two, and the dress is now a glowing night sky. Cut to verse three, and there are butterflies flying out of her midsection. Unfortunately, all this hullaballoo meant we did not hear a note she sang.
The truth is, Carrie is such a blah natural performer that she needs something like a magic dress to distract us from this fact. Still, what a freaking voice. Never has a Carrie dress left us so speechless and not been a Bradshaw.

I'm still fascinated by the arrangement of "Blown Away" she did last night, it's so rare that she doesn't stick closely to the studio version (see, TBC), even in acoustic versions she usually does most of the same notes in a different tempo. There's something very piercing and chilling about the Grammy version--the "There's not enough rain in Oklahoma" line being transposed up an octave is especially striking. The studio version is more intimidating and the performance last night was haunting.

Random little tidbit, but every nomination Carrie's material has received in Best Country Song has ended up winning -- 2007 for JTTW, 2008 for BHC, and now 2013 for BA.

If she had writing credits she would have 9 instead of 6. Oh well...

The people who keep reiterating this 8 years after Idol really should attend one of her concerts.

How has the album been doing in the UK? With all of her promotion there, I was hoping it would at least be her best-seller there. She told Sophia Grace and Rosie on Ellen's thing that she was going back to London. It was so cute with SG sang "Cowboy Casanova" to her.

She didn't get a nom for song/single of the year at the ACM's but WON for BLOWN AWAY at the Grammys. I'd rather have the GRAMMY! ;) lol But she got an album of the year nom. No EOTY nom either. lol oh well

The country voters don't like her anymore. I am SHOCKED she got an album of the year nod.

Honestly, what do the country voters have against her? She goes out of her way to be an incredible ambassador for the genre, and they don't give her nearly as much respect as she deserves.

Yeah, not surprised. Eventually she'll just be like Martina and get the FVOTY nod but have no chance to win. I also am shocked her album was nominated.

It's kinda sad that she'll never win another FVOTY. :(

It's kinda sad that she'll never win another FVOTY. :( This. And that no matter how much she experiments and takes risks and grows with her subsequent music and performances... and how many tickets+albums+singles she sells... it won't be appreciated by the industry/genre she always speaks so highly of. And please, no one say "there's still next year." How many years has this been happening already? When Joe Galante left, he took the clout for Carrie with him.

It's kinda sad that she'll never win another FVOTY. :( The day she and Brad stop hosting CMA is when I won't have to bother watching anymore too. Same bunch of voters. Clearly Carrie will never get an EOTY nom at CMA as well. People always make excuses to explain why Carrie is not nominated, but those excuses never apply to some of the actual EOTY nominees. Oh well, at least she still has the Grammys love. ;)
