I’m gonna start a new thing I’ll post here weekly, probably the day after I post what fell out on alt. Y’all can do yours as well if you want. I’ll probably do these every Tuesday. It’s just a random thing I thought of because I download a decent amount of music. I also download songs when they chart on alt so they’ll also be included here. I’m doing these because I just can’t do a personal chart, it’s way too much for me to handle. Technically not a personal chart but it’s discussion on music I’ve recently listened to.
Alt/Rock/AAA songs I downloaded this week (June 9, 2020 - June 16, 2020): Barns Courtney - “Fire” July Talk - “Governess Shadow” Catfish and the Bottlemen - “7” Cold War Kids f/ Bishop Briggs - “So Tied Up” Sir Sly - “&Run” Fontaines D.C. - “A Hero’s Death” The Naked and Famous - “Punching In a Dream” Machine Gun Kelly - “Bloody Valentine” Billie Eilish - “ilomilo” No Doubt - “Simple Kind of Life” JAY-Z & LINKIN PARK - “Points of Authority/99 Problems/One Step Closer” Wallows - “OK” The Blue Stones - “Black Holes (Solid Ground)” X Ambassadors, K.Flay & Grandson - “Zen” The 1975 - “If You’re Too Shy (Let Me Know)” Local Natives f/ Sylvan Esso - “Dark Days” Disturbed - “Down With the Sickness” Bear Hands - “Agora” AWOLNATION - “Woman Woman” Wallows - “Scrawny” Inhaler - “Falling In” Bombay Bicycle Club - “Eat, Sleep, Wake (Nothing But You)”

looks like I have some competition when it comes to downloading music. Lol, my lists are kind of inflated because I’m downloading older songs that I didn’t hear and songs I forgot to download for some reason. I download only songs I find decent/weird and songs that actually chart. That’s why “Zen” (it wouldn’t be on my phone if it didn’t chart, that’s for sure) is there and why “Can I Call You Tonight?” isn’t. It’s actually been downloaded for a while and I expected it to chart for months now. This week I’m trying to download some more new music than I have been. My ratio this week for new songs to older songs is much larger than last week but I’m still trying to catch up on the older songs. It’s pretty fun actually.

We’re pretty much more than halfway through the 2020 chart year (31 weeks out of the 51/52 that are usually in a chart year) and I kind of wanted to voice my opinions on the year so far and hear what everyone else has thought. Gonna say that all of my answers are going to be for alternative, but you can do any format or all 3.
Has it been a good year for your favorite format(s)? What are your 3 favorite songs that have charted this year? What are your 3 least favorite songs that have charted this year? What 3 songs do you feel should’ve done way better? What 3 songs have done way better than you thought they would? What 3 songs did way worse than you thought they would? What 3 songs currently charting do you think could hit #1 in the near future? Do you like those 3 songs?
Has it been a good year for your favorite format(s) so far? I feel like alternative has been pretty decent this year. I‘m enjoying the fact that the bands that clogged the format with mediocrity have gotten better or are on hiatus. What are your 3 favorite songs that have charted this year so far? This is a very hard decision, actually. I gave a lot of great ratings to songs this year, and I’m feeling like I undersold a lot of them when I first listened to them. I’ll have to update their ratings. My 3 favorite songs to chart on alt in 2020 so far are (in no particular order): EOB - “Shangri-La” half•alive - “RUNAWAY” KennyHoopla - “how will i rest in peace if i’m buried by a highway?//“ What are your 3 least favorite songs that have charted this year so far? I don’t have Judah or the Dragons to rag (yet) this year but it’s always guaranteed there will be a few stinkers in the mix. AJR - “Bang” Powfu f/ beabadoobee - “death bed” X Ambassadors, K.Flay & grandson - “Zen” What 3 songs do you feel should’ve done way better? There are a couple baffling flops this year (who thought the vocalist from Imagine Dragons could underpreform?) but really, these are the most saddening to me. EOB - “Shangri-La” The Blue Stones - “Shakin Off the Rust” Declan McKenna - “Beautiful Faces” What 3 songs have done way better than you thought they would? The Head and the Heart - “Honeybee” Glass Animals - Your Love (Déjà Vu) Tame Impala - Lost In Yesterday What 3 songs did way worse than you thought they would? YUNGBLUD f/ Dan Reynolds - “Original Loser” (thank god) AJR - “Dear Winter” (thank god) Incubus - “Our Love” What 3 songs currently charting do you think could hit #1 in the near future? Do you like those 3 songs? Weezer - “Hero” (obviously; love it) The 1975 - “If You’re Too Shy (Let Me Know)” (please radio don’t let this flop; love it) Machine Gun Kelly - “Bloody Valentine” (I can’t believe this is as decent as it is) What are your biggest guilty pleasures this year so far? Machine Gun Kelly - “Bloody Valentine” MAGIC GIANT - “Disaster Party” (I just can’t hate this for some reason even if it is so generic) The Unlikely Candidates - “Novocaine” (I also can’t hate this, probably for the same reasons as Disaster Party)

Not sure what happened but I was originally going to say that I previewed the new Lamb of God album. 😂 Active Rock is in desperate need of new music and I'm sure "Bloodshot Eyes" could do well enough.

Has it been a good year for your favorite format(s)? Mixed bag as always, some great stuff and some sh it. What are your 3 favorite songs that have charted this year? On the Floor, Kyoto, Shameika, 4 American Dollars, Mariners Apartment Complex, How Will I Rest in Peace, When Am I Gonna Lose You What are your 3 least favorite songs that have charted this year? Bang!, 3 Years Sober, A Little Bit Off, Someone You Loved, Work, Freak, Zen, Original Me, too many... You can look at what I generally like and dislike based on my weekly radio charts. pulsemusic.proboards.com/thread/172404/daryls-weekly-alternative-active-charts?page=7And there's also a similar radio ranking I did here: rateyourmusic.com/list/darylfrompulse/alternative_mainstream-rock_aaa-in-2020-updated-6_16_20What 3 songs do you feel should’ve done way better? Champion of the World, The Runner, Guilty Conscience, Aries, Need Your Love What 3 songs have done way better than you thought they would? Bad Decisions, Lost in Yesterday, Hell n Back, 4 American Dollars, Circle the Drain (Soccer Mommy), I Got You, Low Life, Beautiful Faces, The Hunted, I think I missed a few What 3 songs did way worse than you thought they would? Champion of the World, These Days, A Mannequin Idol (Lullaby), again probably missing something What 3 songs currently charting do you think could hit #1 in the near future? Do you like those 3 songs? Death Bed, A Little Bit Off, Death by Rock and Roll, Hallucinogenics (on alt). Death Bed is meh, I hate ALBO, like DBRAR, Hallucinogenics is ok.

I think I know why I’m writing out these chart runs now! To be honest, it seemed kind of pointless for everyone else to see because I was the only one really interested, but for this I think everyone will be interested. I saw this YT channel recommended to me. The channel had some videos ranking Hot 100 songs by their chart peak instead of how many points they got. It seemed interesting. I think I’m going to do that here because the list would probably differ significantly to the YE list. Anyway, here we go with this week’s dropouts.
“Forever” - CHVRCHES Peak: 30 (1) Weeks On: 8 Entered at #34 on May 2, 2020
“Give a Little Bit More (Disaster)” - Bleeker Peak: 34 (1) Weeks On: 8 Entered at #36 on May 2, 2020
“Alive” - guardin Peak: 32 (1) Weeks On: 8 Entered at #40 on April 18, 2020

I hate to triple post but y’all hardly post here for whatever reason. I’m working on compiling every song that’s ever charted on Billboard’s Alternative Airplay (or whatever names it previously went by). The obvious place to start is September 10, 1988, the week the first Billboard Alternative chart came out. 89 songs charted within the first 4 months. The first 30 songs are the original September 10 chart, and each song after it is a new entry, until December 31, 1988. I’ll do these in years because the lists get kind of big. I would like to fence these off into chart years instead of general years, so if any of y’all know when the chart years start and end from 1988 to 2019, please let me know!
1988: 1. Siouxsie & The Banshees - “Peek-A-Boo” 2. Big Audio - “Just Play Music!” 3. The Primitives - “Crash” 4. UB40 & Chrissie Hynde - “Breakfast in Bed” 5. Ziggy Marley And The Melody Makers - “Tumblin’ Down” 6. Shriekback - “Intoxication” 7. Psychedelic Furs - “All That Money Wants” 8. The Escape Club - “Wild Wild West” 9. 10,000 Maniacs - “What’s The Matter Here?” 10. Information Society - “What’s On Your Mind (Pure Energy) 11. House of Love - “Christine” 12. Patti Smith - “Up There Down There” 13. Icicle Works - “High Time” 14. Debbie Harry - “Liar, Liar” 15. Hothouse Flowers - “Don’t Go” 16. Paul Kelly & The Messengers - “Dumb Things” 17. The Sugarcubes - “Motorcrash” 18. Hunters & Collectors - “Back On The Breadline” 19. Toni Childs - “Don’t Walk Away” 20. In Tua Nua - “All I Wanted” 21. Edie Brickell & New Bohemians - “What I Am” 22. Shona Laing - “Glad I’m Not A Kennedy” 23. Ranking Roger - “So Excited” 24. Tracy Chapman - “Talkin’ Bout A Revolution” 25. First off, it is really 2020? We had the first new full-length album from Hum in 22 years and first from The Rentals in 6 years. Also, new stuff from HAIM, Remo Drive, Kansas, Ray LaMontagne, and more. We also get to hear Chester Bennington's band prior to forming Linkin Park in Grey Daze.
While it wasn't the biggest release day yesterday, it had a lot of variety.
Please comment below if there is anything else that I might have forgotten.

I’ve soldiered on with making this massive ass list because I have nothing better to do. Here’s every song that charted on Alternative Airplay in 1989, excluding the songs I listed in 1988 that carried over. This is in regular years BTW, not chart years. iHeart blew up 3 Alternatives today. This won't affect anything low on the chart other than "My Own Soul's Warning" but the top 12-15 songs are going to take a decent hit to their bullets.

I guessed correctly in my head that there would be 3 alt debuts this week and I guessed the dropouts correctly (lovelytheband doesn’t have a BB page for some reason but it was clearly going recurrent).
“Salt and the Sea” - The Lumineers Peak: 40 (1) Weeks On: 1 Entered at #40 on the week of June 27, 2020 Has a chance to re-enter next week or the week afterwards.
“The Difference” - Flume f/ Toro y Moi Peak: 33 (2) Weeks On: 9 Entered at #33 on the week of May 2, 2020 Didn’t really expect this to do much and it didn’t.
“Loneliness for Love” - lovelytheband Peak: 7 (3) Weeks On: 20 Entered at #28 on the week of February 15, 2020 Had a pretty good chart run. Didn’t expect this to have any longevity past 20 weeks though.

Wow so the iHeart Alts from a panel perspective are worthless.
There's a iHeart redundant/useless joke in here somewhere.

Pottery - "Welcome to Bobby's Mote" (Dance-Punk, Art Punk, Post-Punk, Art Rock) (similar to White Denim, Black Lips, Parquet Courts, etc)If you want something fun, Talking Heads inspired, listen to this. Texas Drums Pt I & II is the highlight for me.

Texas Drums Pt I & II is the highlight for me. That's my favorite damn song on the album. It's very likely going to be on my upcoming 2020 Q2 Rankdown :)
