DJ Earworm stopped following the top 25 last year and seemed to pick his own opinions of what was popular. Not quite. Earworm said that he based his mashup on the weekly lists (whatever they are) so that his USOP would more accurately reflect the year due to the December cut-off date skewing things up. That said, I'm surprised to see Mercy in the top 25, as last I checked that song hasn't been in the top 10, but then again I live in Australia and check Wikipedia every week, so what do I know about what's popular on the radio? ;)

Yeah, Mercy may not have peaked that high but its been around a while, same thing goes for The Motto. Last year there was If I Die Young, in 2010 it was Haven't Met You Yet (didn't even peak in the top 20 yet was in the top 50 of the year end Hot 100). One more week? So it's safe to assume "Payphone" and "Lights" will be #6-7; "Some Nights" #13; "One More Night" #17 and no other current top 10 song will enter the top 50 (Psy). I'm glad "Die Young", "Diamonds" and "Locked Out Of Heaven" won't enter Top 100. Those 7-900 points are not that big waste and they'll rank high on the next year-end chart if they fall slowly after peaking.

I think Diamonds and Die Young will enter the top 100 on the actual year end chart, but near the bottom. Gangnam Style will be around #40 I think.

I've been doing a similar year-end chart with a bunch of different points systems tested on the 2011 year-end chart to some degree of accuracy. In most of my projections, I have Payphone ahead of Stronger (5th and 6th behind WFL) and have Die Young and LMLY barely making the top 100 while Diamonds and LOOH miss out. Just my two cents.

In most of my projections, I have Payphone ahead of Stronger (5th and 6th behind WFL) and have Die Young and LMLY barely making the top 100 while Diamonds and LOOH miss out. Just my two cents. For reference, I've tested this point system on 2011 as well. Only one of the songs that were in the official top 10 was out of order (Moves Like Jagger at #11). Only one song missed out of the top 25 that was in it in the official chart (Someone Like You at #28). Now its pretty much a process of fine tuning, getting this year's results will certainly help with that. I've been working on improving it, but now its mostly a process of fine tuning that is very annoying.

Some predictions for your chart will compare to the Billboard list:
*Lights will rank lower (maybe around #11?) *Gangnam Style will rank higher (#16?) *Die Young and Diamonds will both be in the top 100 *Your top five will be spot-on

I think "Lights" will be top 10 due the simple fact it's been on the Hot 100 for nearly the entire chart year. But I think Payphone will be #5 over Stronger. KC had more longevity, but Payphone's sales were crazy. Psy will be a lot higher, but there's no way it will be ahead of One More Night, considering I don't think it's ever been ahead of it on the Hot 100. I'm curious as to how they're handling the part of the year that had no streaming factor, though. Either way, I'm 99% sure GS will be in the DJ Earworm mash-up.

I'm curious as to how they're handling the part of the year that had no streaming factor, though. Interesting point there. I did not think of this while I was doing my personal year end chart. There will definitely be some shuffling around of positions if Billboard does/doesn't include the streaming data in the final ranking.

Hmm, We Found Love was #69 on last year's year end chart. I wonder if it would have been #1 this year if its entire run was included on one chart.

No way. STIUTK has 2-3 million sales on it.

This's another calculation using the new methodology made on Mar 24, 2012 that means digital downloads was weighted the same throughout the entire chart year of 2012 therefore, Call Me Maybe would rank higher than We Are Young by this rule
Rank - Popularity - Song - Artist 1 1.000 Somebody That I Used To Know - Gotye feat. Kimbra 2 0.832 Call Me Maybe - Carly Rae Jepsen 3 0.825 We Are Young - fun. feat. Janelle Monáe 4 0.693 Payphone - Maroon 5 feat. Wiz Khalifa 5 0.635 We Found Love - Rihanna feat. ^ I think the second one is more accurate. (for example in "Starships" and "Lights" postion)

I'm surprised no one has come back to this thread to compare to the actual results. Just looking at the top ten:
BB (icefire's calculation in parantheses) 1 Somebody… (1) 2 Call Me Maybe (2) 3 We Are Young (3) 4 Payphone (7) 5 Lights (6) 6 Glad You Came (8) 7 Stronger (5) 8 We Found Love (4) 9 Starships (10) 10 What Makes You Beautiful (12)
Top 3 was right on, then from there things were fairly close. Overall I think the BB list shows a little more success for songs that may not have peaked as high but lasted longer.
Most impressive to me is getting Lights so close -- I would not have guessed it would've been so high on either version.

I would have (and still will) go back and do a comparison, though its exam week for me right now so things have been fairly busy.
I did very well with Lights, though fairly poorly with We Found Love (I'm not sure what went wrong with it...)
Payphone makes me suspect that I need to give more points for #2 and #3 weeks, but overall I feel pretty good about my rankings.
