Adele is having like a Titanic sized run. This is pretty cool, but it still boggles my mind that people are still buying 100K a week of her record in 2012. I just don't get who is still purchasing it. People just catching on to the album perhaps. Those hearing the current single on the radio now that didn't quite pay attention to the earlier ones. Perhaps, the combination of the 3 singles is enough for someone to spend 10 bucks where before it wasn't

Who are those 20k people who still buy it on a weeklt basis? that's a mystery where were those poeple when it was still current. I know you can say they heard it somewhere and gone get it, but it's the same amount each week.

They will surely outsell the Now 41 compilation, a franchise long past its prime, and The Fray, whose 15 minutes of fame ended 3 years ago. Paul McCartney will come closer to VH I think.

The Fray (especially), 50 Cent and The All-American Rejects predictions look a bit optimistic

Things are going to start heating up on the Billboard 200 next week.
On Nielsen SoundScan's Building chart (below), we're getting a sneak peak at what could debut in the Billboard 200's top 10, and it's looking like there may be up to five new albums taking a bow in the region.
The Building tally is a precursor to the final Billboard 200 ranking -- reflecting the first four days (Monday through Thursday) of SoundScan's tracking week (ending Sunday, Jan. 22) as reported by six major merchants. On the list, Nos. 2-6 are all titles that were released this past Tuesday (Jan. 24), led by Tim McGraw's "Emotional Traffic" at No. 2. Industry sources suggest the album may sell around 60,000 to 65,000 copies by week's end on Sunday, Jan. 29.
Adele's blockbuster "21" album is sitting pretty at No. 1 on the Building list, while Lamb of God's new "Resolution" appears at No. 3. Ingrid Michaelson's "Human Again" is No. 4, followed by the "2012 Grammy Nominees" compilation at No. 5 and Kellie Pickler's "100 Proof" at No. 6. Both Lamb of God and the "Grammy" set may move around 50,000.
Two more new releases dot the Building chart's top 10 -- though it's still a bit early to tell if they'll ultimately make the top 10 next week on the final Billboard 200. Christian singer Kari Jobe is at No. 9 with her new album "Where I Find You," while the "Chimes of Freedom" all-star benefit compilation is at No. 10. The latter set celebrates both the career of Bob Dylan and the good works of Amnesty International.
As for the rest of the Building chart's top 10, we have holdovers from the "Kidz Bop 21" album (No. 7) and Drake's "Take Care" (No. 8).
The new Billboard 200 chart's top 10 will be revealed on the morning of Wednesday, Feb. 1.
Nielsen SoundScan Building Chart 1 1 Adele"21" 2 NEW Tim McGraw "Emotional Traffic" 3 NEW Lamb of God "Resolution" 4 NEW Ingrid Michaelson "Human Again" 5 NEW Various Artists "2012 Grammy Nominees" 6 NEW Kellie Pickler "100 Proof" 7 2 Kidz Bop Kids "Kidz Bop 21" 8 4 Drake "Take Care" 9 NEW Kari Jobe"Where I Find You" 10 NEW Various Artists "Chimes of Freedom"
The Building Chart reflects the first four days (Monday through Thursday) of SoundScan's tracking week (which ends Sunday) as reported by six major merchants: iTunes, Trans World Entertainment, Best Buy, Starbucks, Target and Anderson Merchandisers. Billboard estimates that they make up about 85% of all U.S. album sales

Adele is probably reaching an audience that otherwise ignores current popular music - which is the vast majority of people.
The most popular song of the digital era, for example, has been purchased by only about 2.5% of the country. It seems like domination to our eyes, but when you consider that some albums out there have sold 30 million copies, it becomes clear that Adele still has plenty of room left to build more sales.

Adele will match its own longest run at #1 this week.
In the nine times this album has debuted/climbed to #1, ths has been #1 5 weeks in a row twice

True, but are you taking into effect the amount of piracy going on? Way more than when albums sold 5 million copies. The country is bigger, but piracy is probably at its all time high.

I'm guessing last year was also the smallest margin ever between #1 and #10. If you had judged that week based on the sales of the #10 album it actually wasn't so bad.

Way more than when albums sold 5 million copies. The country is bigger, but piracy is probably at its all time high. The primary thing is likely that this album has reached out to people that are beyond the core music buying crowd. That is where the blockbusters occur, when you get people into the music stores and sites, that are not regulars.

The last time that Hits reported sales for a LOG album, the actual soundscan number was 5,500 copies more. So I'm guessing that Resolution actually sold 57-58k in week 1.
