That also explains why every song always has 100% of its downloads in its first 3 days, and then no sales ever again!

Right - It may only take 30 seconds to download a song, but this was a sporting event, not a music show. I have no doubt that many of the people tuning in just to see Madonna had downloaded the song or quickly did it that evening in 30 seconds. However, much of the audience was there for football and more interested in the outcome of the game rather than the song performance.

Well right - so another 25000 or so on top of the 100K before they cut the promo off. So that is 125K out of 114 million that tuned in

100K is 3 days? Not bad but I expected more from the huge promo. Anybody know much Gaga and Britney sold in 3 days from their latest first singles? I think those both got Friday releases as well. Born This Way sold 448,000 in three days. I can't speak for Hold It Against Me's three day sales, but I remember reading on a radio industry website that it sold either 100k or 150k in one day. |

Born This Way sold 448,000 in three days. I can't speak for Hold It Against Me's three day sales, but I remember reading on a radio industry website that it sold either 100k or 150k in one day. HIAM ended up selling ~410,000 in one week, and considering that the song took a major hit in its second week, I think it sold a major bulk of that total at the beginning of the week, so I would estimate it sold 275-300k in its first three days. |

Problem for Kelly is The Grammys are getting ever closer. That is why I want Kelly to get #1 now although it is looking like #1 next week is locked up if she continues to outsell Adele like this. She is selling 50% more than Adele, actually higher than that at the moment. I think we all expect Adele to take back #1 after the Grammy's but that will hopefully be a one week thing, her airplay should be peaking about that time. |

Kworb's estimates have Adele and Kelly basically tied. He listed Adele as being ahead by 1 point but their placements were listed as 1/2 because it is too close to call. Exciting!

The only reasonable explanation is to release the song legally before (or ASAP after) everyone can download it illegally. It doesn't really make any sense for chart purposes, if that's what you're asking. |
