^And the 15-minute interval for the halftime performance almost topped 116 million, which was higher than all but a few of the game's 15-minute intervals. :)

If GMAYL didn't climb further, it'd still chart higher than many comeback singles of big acts. Michael Jackson's Hold My Hand barely scraped top 40. The latest single by U2 performed the same and we haven't seen Prince charting in ages. For more current acts, Coldplay for example are yet to score a top ten hit from their latest album and Drake has only reached #9 despite being one of the biggest stars around atm. To this date, Coldplay have never been a consistently robust Hot 100 act, so to put them in the same camp as these other artists is erroneous. As for Michael Jackson's recent release, it was a posthumous one and many fans were already essentially boycotting "Michael" because of the fact Michael Jackson was a perfectionist and wasn't known to release something unless he was sure it was finished...........and that's precisely what Epic Records disregarded. Thus, many listeners went cold on the album. U2's most recent lead release was preceded by another lead release ("Vertigo") which also didn't make the Top 30, and that didn't stop that single from topping the Modern Rock Charts and picking up some moderate Adult Top 40 airplay in a way "Get On Your Boots" never did. Namaste, lisping HIBISCUS

Week Ending Feb. 5, 2012. Songs: Madonna & MJBy Paul Grein | Chart Watch – 34 minutes ago music.yahoo.com/blogs/chart-watch/week-ending-feb-5-2012-songs-madonna-mj-024543065.html;_ylt=ApcvpWSIcz9zxYrV8RcuHfMPwiUv;_ylu=X3oDMTFkYTZnZmZkBG1pdANNdXNpYyBCbG9nIEluZGV4BHBvcwMxBHNlYwNNZWRpYUJsb2dJbmRleA--;_ylg=X3oDMTFvcGs0cnBnBGludGwDdXMEbGFuZwNlbi11cwRwc3RhaWQDBHBzdGNhdANibG9nBHB0A3NlY3Rpb25zBHRlc3QD;_ylv=3Close your eyes and you'd swear it was 1987. Madonna has the top new entry on this week's Hot 100 with "Give Me All Your Luvin," which she performed at the Super Bowl with Nicki Minaj and the irrepressible M.I.A. And five Michael Jackson songs enter the Hot 100, albeit in their Glee cover versions from last week's MJ salute. The highest-ranking is "Smooth Criminal," which pops on at #26. "Give Me All Your Luvin'" sold 115K copies, which allows it to enter Hot Digital Songs at #7. That's not bad considering it had just three days to amass sales. But it's not great either, given that about 1,000 times that many people watched Madonna perform the song at the Super Bowl. In truth, we may need a few weeks to see if this is going to make it in a big way or not. The young-sounding (you might even say bubblegummy) song is Madonna's 44th top 20 hit. She first cracked the top 20 with "Holiday" in January 1984. Of these 44 big hits, only two have been collabos, this song and "4 Minutes," her 2008 smash with Justin Timberlake. "Give Me All Your Luvin'" marks Madonna's 56th appearance on the Hot 100. Only one female solo artist, Aretha Franklin, has amassed more Hot 100 hits (73). Two female solo artists match Madonna's total of 56: Connie Francis and Dionne Warwick. (Francis' total includes three songs that made Billboard's Top 100 Sides chart in the period prior to the introduction of the Hot 100 in August 1958.) This is the first single from Madonna's 12th studio album, MDNA, which is due March 26. Madonna's last four studio albums, Music, American Life, Confessions On A Dance Floor and Hard Candy, have all debuted at #1. Will this one follow suit? Stay tuned. Madonna and MJ never collaborated (that wasn't done much in those days), though they did go on one very high-profile "date." They went to the Oscars together on March 25, 1991, the year Madonna sang the nominated "Sooner Or Later (I Always Get My Man)," which won for Best Song. Now, back to the countdown. The Glee version of "Smooth Criminal" (featuring 2Cellos) sold 108K copies this week, which enables it to enter Hot Digital Songs at #10. It's the third rendition of this song to crack the top 30 on the Hot 100. Jackson's original version reached #7 in 1989. Alien Ant Farm's alternative-minded cover version hit #21 in 2001. Four other Glee versions of MJ songs enter the Hot 100: "Human Nature" bows at #56, followed by "Black Or White" at #64, "Wanna Be Startin' Something" at #78 and "Bad" at #80. This is the third time that "Human Nature" has been a hit. Jackson's original reached #7 in 1983. SWV's "Right Here/Human Nature" reached #2 in 1993. This is also the third time (sort of) that "Bad" has been a hit. Jackson's original hit #1 in 1987. "Weird Al" Yankovic's parody version, "Fat," reached #99 in 1988. Kelly Clarkson's "Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)" jumps to #1 in its seventh week. It's Clarkson's third #1 hit, following her schmaltzy American Idol coronation song "A Moment Like This" and her 2009 hit "My Life Would Suck Without You." The latter song was fizzy and fun, but it was very much in the mold of Clarkson's 2005 smash "Since U Been Gone." Clarkson's current hit is a solid, gimmick-free pop/rock record. Clarkson's song sold 237K copies this week, which is the biggest sales total that any song has rung up in the first five chart weeks of 2012. Clarkson sang the National Anthem at the Super Bowl on the last day of the tracking week. This is the third time that a song that was in the top 15 on the Hot 100 when the artist had that high-profile assignment later rose to #1. It previously happened with Whitney Houston's "All The Man That I Need" in 1991 (#8 at the time of the Super Bowl; #1 three weeks later) and Cher's "Believe" in 1999 (#13 at the time of the Super Bowl; #1 five weeks later). Would these songs have reached #1 anyway without this little boost? We'll never know, will we? "Turn Me On" by David Guetta featuring Nicki Minaj holds at #5 for the second week. The song also tops the 1 million mark in digital sales this week. Guetta is #1 in the U.K. this week, but with a different song. "Titanium" (featuring Sia) becomes his fifth British #1. He's still waiting for his first in the U.S. "Young, Wild & Free" by Snoop Dogg & Wiz Khalifa featuring Bruno Mars jumps from #12 to #8, its highest ranking to date. This is its third separate stint in the top 10. It seems to me that this mellow tune is a perfect summer record that is scaling the top 10 in February. What's up with that? And would it have been an even bigger hit if it had peaked in August? Discuss among yourselves. What's the only duo in music business history to sell 4 million copies of back-to-back songs? The Everly Brothers? Carpenters? Daryl Hall & John Oates? Those are all excellent guesses, but the answer is LMFAO. The party-all-the-time-pair's recent #1 hit "Sexy And I Know It" tops the 4 million mark in digital sales this week. Its previous smash, "Party Rock Anthem," has sold 5,997,000 copies. Songs didn't reach gigantic numbers like this back in the Dark Ages when you had to go to a store and buy a vinyl single. But here are four other cases of back-to-back hits by duos in which both songs were monster hits. The Everly Brothers scored with "Bye Bye Love" and "Wake Up Little Susie" in 1957, Carpenters with "(They Long To Be) Close To You" and "We've Only Just Begun" in 1970, Daryl Hall & John Oates with "Private Eyes" and "I Can't Go For That (No Can Do)" in 1981-1982 and Wham! with "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" and "Careless Whisper" in 1984-1985. Two weeks ago, "Sexy And I Know It" topped "Sexyback" by Justin Timberlake featuring Timbaland as the best-selling song in digital history with the word "sexy" in its title. "Sexyback" has sold 3,838,000 copies. "Sexy Chick" by David Guetta featuring Usher is in third place. It has sold 3,252,000 copies. Here's the low-down on this week's top 10 songs. 1. Kelly Clarkson, "Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)." The song jumps from #2 to #1 in its seventh week on the chart. This is its third week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #1 (237K). 2. Adele, "Set Fire To The Rain." The former #1 song dips to #2 its 23rd week on the chart. This is its seventh week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #2 (165K). 3. Flo Rida, "Good Feeling." The song rebounds from #4 to #3 in its 19th week on the chart. This is its 14th week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #3 (148K). 4. Rihanna featuring Calvin Harris, "We Found Love." The former #1 song dips from #3 to #4 in its 20th week on the chart. This is its 19th week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #12 (92K). 5. David Guetta featuring Nicki Minaj, "Turn Me On." The song holds at #5 in its 10th week on the chart. This is its fourth week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #3 (148K). 6. Jessie J, "Domino." The song jumps from #8 to #6 in its 17th week on the chart. This is its third week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #11 (107K). 7. Tyga, "Rack City." The song jumps from #10 to #7 in its 11th week on the chart. This is its third week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #4 (139K). 8. Snoop Dogg & Wiz Khalifa featuring Bruno Mars, "Young, Wild & Free." The song jumps from #12 to #8 in its 17th week on the chart. This is its third week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #5 (127K). 9. LMFAO, "Sexy And I Know It." The former #1 song drops from #7 to #9 in its 23rd week on the chart. This is its 20th week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #9 (112K). 10. Bruno Mars, "It Will Rain." The song drops from #6 to #10 in its 19th week on the chart. This is its 13th week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #21 (69K). Katy Perry's "The One That Got Away" drops from #9 to #14. It climbed as high as #3. "Ass Back Home" by Gym Class Heroes featuring Neon Hitch jumps from #19 to #12 in its eighth week. Digital sales rank: #8 (113K)…"Take Care" by Drake featuring Rihanna jumps from #26 to #23 in its 12th week. This is a very good, very subtle record. It may soon overtake Drake's other current hit, "The Motto" (featuring Lil Wayne), which holds at #16 in its 12th week…"Somebody That I Used To Know" by Gotye featuring Kimbra jumps from #31 to #27 in its fifth week. The Wanted's "Glad You Came" jumps from #40 to #30 in its fourth week. Will the song follow Jessie J's "Domino" (which was also a U.K. #1) into the top 10? Stay tuned…Christina Perri's "A Thousand Years" jumps from #51 to #38 (its highest ranking to date) in its 16th week. "We Are Young" by Fun. featuring Janelle Monae jumps from #63 to #41 (its highest ranking to date) in its seventh week…Train's "Drive By" jumps from #65 to #55 (its highest ranking to date) in its fourth week…"Mirror" by Lil Wayne featuring Bruno Mars re-enters at #57. The song has already reached #16, which made it the fifth top 30 hit from Tha Carter IV…"Talk That Talk" by Rihanna featuring Jay-Z jumps from #77 to #65 in its sixth week. The song has already climbed as high as #31. Miranda Lambert's "Over You" leaps from #87 to #66 in its third week. Lambert co-wrote the song with her husband, Blake Shelton (who has a hit of his own. "Drink On It" jumps from #81 to #73 in its second week)… "Wild Ones" by Flo Rida featuring Sia jumps from #100 to #77 in its fifth week. The song has already climbed as high as #57…LMFAO's "Sorry For Party Rocking" jumps from #92 to #79 in its second week. "Ni**as In Paris" by Jay-Z/Kanye West tops the 2 million mark in digital sales this week. Al Green's 1972 classic "Let's Stay Together" this week tops the 1 million mark in digital sales. The song was certified by the RIAA for sales of 1 million vinyl singles in January 1972. The song has sold 48K digital copies in the last three weeks, since President Obama sang a line of the song at an event at the Apollo Theater. (See, he is boosting the economy.) Topping the 1 million mark this week: "Strange Cloud" by B.o.B featuring Lil Wayne. Damn, only a four place jump for Gotye. Going by iTunes all this past week, I thought it would land just outside the Top 20.

Wow with 111.3 million viewers and only selling 113k? You can say that is good for three days but with that much audience and only pulling that much sales for Madonna? I bet you they expected much more than that.

^Obviously, any music title that gains sales after exposure on TV is only going to see a small percentage of the total-viewers number. It's always that way.
The 115k figure in three days is more than we at Pulse expected after seeing how it was performing- but that may have to do with the pre-order auto-downloads not being applied to iTunes' Top Songs chart.

www.billboard.com/news#/news/kelly-clarkson-drives-stronger-to-hot-100-1006125152.storyKelly Clarkson Drives 'Stronger' to Hot 100 Summitby Gary Trust, N.Y. | February 08, 2012 In what an RCA Records representative terms a "perfect storm" of radio airplay, digital sales and pop culture prominence, Kelly Clarkson's "Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)" rises from No. 2 to No. 1 on this week's Billboard Hot 100 songs chart. The uptempo pop anthem becomes the original "American Idol" champion's third leader on the list. Clarkson first reigned with her "Idol" coronation song "A Moment Like This" for two weeks in 2002. She returned to the summit with "My Life Would Suck Without You" for two weeks beginning this week in 2009. "Stronger" soars to the Hot 100's top spot with top Airplay Gainer honors, charging 33-15 on the Radio Songs chart (58 million audience impressions, up 49%, according to Nielsen BDS). On the Digital Songs survey, "Stronger" spends a second week at No. 1. The song sold 237,000 downloads (up 6%) in the list's tracking week, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The sum marks Clarkson's second-best sales week, outpaced only by the debut frame of "My Life" (280,000). Aiding Clarkson and her new leader's profile, the singer performed the national anthem before Sunday's Super Bowl (Feb. 6) in Indianapolis. With 111.3 million viewers on NBC, the NFL championship game became the most-watched event in TV history, according to Nielsen. "Stronger" also serves as the soundtrack to Toyota's current TV spot for its Camry model, in which Clarkson, from the driver's seat, leads a sing-along of the song with the seemingly unlikely trio of ESPN's Chris Berman, Bravo's James Lipton and the Travel Channel's Andrew Zimmern. As Clarkson motors to the Hot 100's top spot, Adele's "Set Fire to the Rain" descends to No. 2 after two weeks at No. 1. The song pushes 4-2 on Radio Songs (127 million, up 8%) and holds at No. 2 on Digital Songs (after leading the tally three weeks ago) with 165,000 downloads sold (down 1%). Adele's "21," meanwhile, logs a 19th week atop the Billboard 200 albums chart. Both Clarkson and Adele are among the scheduled performers at the 54th Annual Grammy Awards, to be broadcast Sunday (Feb. 12) at 8 p.m. ET on CBS. Flo Rida's "Good Feeling" rebounds from No. 4 to its No. 3 peak-to-date on the Hot 100. Earlier this week, the song became the rapper's third No. 1 on the Pop Songs radio airplay chart. Rihanna's former 10-week Hot 100 topper "We Found Love," featuring Calvin Harris, slips 3-4, although it spends an 12th frame at No. 1 on Radio Songs (135 million, down 7%). "Love" is one of just 13 titles to command the airplay chart for at least 12 weeks since the list launched in late 1990. David Guetta's "Turn Me On," featuring Nicki Minaj, remains at No. 5 on the Hot 100, jumping into the top 10 (12-8) on Radio Songs (69 million, up 13%) and staying static at No. 3 on Digital Songs (148,000 down 9%). The next three titles in the Hot 100's top 10 all climb to new high points: Jessie J's "Domino" (8-6); Tyga's "Rack City" (10-7); and, Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa's "Young, Wild & Free," featuring Bruno Mars (12-8). LMFAO's former two-week No. 1 "Sexy and I Know It" (7-9) and Mars' "It Will Rain" (6-10) round out the Hot 100's top tier. Just outside the top 10, Madonna roars onto the Hot 100 at No. 13 with "Give Me All Your Luvin'," featuring Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. The first single from Madonna's 12th studio album, "MDNA," due March 26, blasts onto Digital Songs at No. 7 (115,000) and Radio Songs at No. 28 (44 million). Like Clarkson, Her Madgesty enjoyed a Super Bowl spotlight, having performed "Luvin'," along with portions of her past smashes, at the big game's halftime festivities. The track also received special attention from Clear Channel Media and Entertainment's more than 50 monitored pop stations, which played it at the top of every hour from Friday at 9 a.m. ET until kickoff Sunday night. "Luvin' " marks Madonna's 56th Hot 100 appearance, tying her with Dionne Warwick for the second-most visits among women. Only the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin (73 entries), outdistances the Queen of Pop and Warwick in the category. The No. 13 Hot 100 entrance of "Luvin' " ties 1992's "Erotica" for Madonna's fourth-highest. She arrived at loftier ranks only with "Ray of Light" (No. 5, 1998), "You'll See" (No. 8, 1995) and "Frozen" (No. 8, 1998). Looks like I was right! Congrats Kelly!

I bet you they expected much more than that. That's not fair. The SB effect only had like 6 hours or less no? So the sales were mostly for a new madonna song that no one had herd. The SB effect will happen this week when she blasts into the Top 10/5 of the HOT 100.

Yeah, the SB effect was for about 6 hours but people are also forgetting the massive song launch to 17 millions viewers on American Idol and the massive radio launch that played the song every hour for 3 days straight. The Superbowl is the topping on the cake but the song had a pretty massive launch days before the bowl. 113K is still just okay considering all that promo.

Very happy for Kelly. Nice girl. Good song. Also, amazing longevity - her first #1 was 9 1/2 years ago. Very few artists have this level of success for this long.

116 million people saw it, out of that 100 million don't buy music, and 10 million don't listen to Pop...

I wouldn't call the 1-minute video preview on Idol a "massive" launch (back when it Idol was getting an additional 10m or more viewers, that maybe would be more "massive." :) While the exposure didn't hurt, but it wasn't like anyone could buy the track right after it.
We were not expecting 115K based on the showing on iTunes' Top Songs chart, so I was pleasantly surprised. Even considering the sales from the album pre-order, I was not expecting it to be as high as 115K.

Honestly GMAYL is just really such a blah song. I think if it was on par with "Music" or "Hung Up" it would be very different right now and #1 wouldn't have been a pipe dream.

"Rolling in the Deep" refuses to go. :) And with the Grammys, it probably won't be going next week, either.

^ I'm just clarifying because some people still think they are the same thing. They are not. So, no Digital Tracks list then?

Great run for Pumped Up Kicks, too bad it peaked at the same time with Someone Like You and Moves Like Jagger because I thought it had shot at #1 but still I never thought this song would become a big hit at all. I wish Don't Stop could be a hit as well but alternative/ pop-rock groups don't usually have back to back monster hits.
A Thousand Years finally enters the Top 40. I hope it could land in the top 20. It's a nice ballad.
Shake it Out is close to dropping out, it lasted 15 weeks in fairness but I really wished it charted higher.
Just a Kiss might not be as huge as Need You Now but it's a big hit on its own right. 40 weeks on the chart? Impressive
I hope Rolling in the Deep logs 60 weeks before it goes recurrent.
The One That Got Away drops out of the Top 10. Will Perry release a 7th single? Despite TOTGA peaking at #3 "only", it still did well, I just wished it didn't have to resort with the B.o.B remix but oh well.
When did Marry The Night dropped out? Didn't notice it. Likewise, will GaGa release a 5th single or she is done with this era already? While this era is no flop by any means, if we remember last year's hype with this release who would have thought that it will probably end on an underwhelming note/
Looks like Love You Like a Love Song has peaked, too bad it didn't match (or surpass) Who Says' #21 peak. But amazing longevity nevertheless
