www.billboard.com/#/news/lana-del-rey-debuts-at-no-2-on-billboard-1006124352.story Speaking of Madonna, on the Digital Songs chart, her new single "Give Me All Your Luvin'," featuring Nicki Minaj and M.I.A., debuts at No. 7 with 115,000 downloads sold. As the tracking week ended on Sunday, Feb. 5, this debut represents only the song's first three days of release (it bowed on Friday, Feb. 3). Comparably, Madonna's last lead single from a studio album, 2008's "4 Minutes," started with 217,000 downloads in its first week of availability (it was released on a Monday). Or, a little less than double what "Luvin'" sold in three days. The aforementioned Clarkson is steady at No. 1 with "Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)," selling 237,000 (up 6%) while Adele's "Set Fire to the Rain" is also a non-mover at No. 2 (165,000; down 2%). Nos. 3-6 are also in the same spots as last week: in order, we have David Guetta's "Turn Me On" (featuring Minaj) with 148,000 (down 9%); Tyga's "Rack City" with 139,000 (down 2%); Snoop Dogg & Wiz Khalifa's "Young, Wild & Free" with 127,000 (down 1%) and Flo Rida's "Good Feeling" with 115,000 (down 5%). Gym Class Heroes' "Ass Back Home" (featuring Neon Hitch) jumps into the top 10 for the first time, climbing 14-8 with 113,000 (up 113,000; up 30%) while LMFAO's "Sexy and I Know It" falls one slot to No. 9 with 112,000 (down 1%). The Glee Cast's rendition of Michael Jackson's "Smooth Criminal" (featuring 2Cellos), debuts at No. 10 with 108,000. It marks the cast's third-highest sales week for a single this season, following their Adele mash-up of "Rumour Has It/Someone Like You" (160,000 in its debut) and its cover of fun.'s "We Are Young" (137,000 in its debut). Digital track sales this past week totaled 26.39 million downloads, up 2% compared to last week (25.98 million) and up 7% stacked next to the comparable week of 2011 (24.61 million). Year to date track sales are at 141.58 million, up 6% compared to the same total at this point last year (132.94 million).

It may be more, if the BDS gap is smaller. But, there's also streaming in the mix.

www.billboard.com/news#/news/kelly-clarkson-drives-stronger-to-hot-100-1006125152.storyKelly Clarkson Drives 'Stronger' to Hot 100 Summitby Gary Trust, N.Y. | February 08, 2012 In what an RCA Records representative terms a "perfect storm" of radio airplay, digital sales and pop culture prominence, Kelly Clarkson's "Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)" rises from No. 2 to No. 1 on this week's Billboard Hot 100 songs chart. The uptempo pop anthem becomes the original "American Idol" champion's third leader on the list. Clarkson first reigned with her "Idol" coronation song "A Moment Like This" for two weeks in 2002. She returned to the summit with "My Life Would Suck Without You" for two weeks beginning this week in 2009. "Stronger" soars to the Hot 100's top spot with top Airplay Gainer honors, charging 33-15 on the Radio Songs chart (58 million audience impressions, up 49%, according to Nielsen BDS). On the Digital Songs survey, "Stronger" spends a second week at No. 1. The song sold 237,000 downloads (up 6%) in the list's tracking week, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The sum marks Clarkson's second-best sales week, outpaced only by the debut frame of "My Life" (280,000). Aiding Clarkson and her new leader's profile, the singer performed the national anthem before Sunday's Super Bowl (Feb. 6) in Indianapolis. With 111.3 million viewers on NBC, the NFL championship game became the most-watched event in TV history, according to Nielsen. "Stronger" also serves as the soundtrack to Toyota's current TV spot for its Camry model, in which Clarkson, from the driver's seat, leads a sing-along of the song with the seemingly unlikely trio of ESPN's Chris Berman, Bravo's James Lipton and the Travel Channel's Andrew Zimmern. As Clarkson motors to the Hot 100's top spot, Adele's "Set Fire to the Rain" descends to No. 2 after two weeks at No. 1. The song pushes 4-2 on Radio Songs (127 million, up 8%) and holds at No. 2 on Digital Songs (after leading the tally three weeks ago) with 165,000 downloads sold (down 1%). Adele's "21," meanwhile, logs a 19th week atop the Billboard 200 albums chart. Both Clarkson and Adele are among the scheduled performers at the 54th Annual Grammy Awards, to be broadcast Sunday (Feb. 12) at 8 p.m. ET on CBS. Flo Rida's "Good Feeling" rebounds from No. 4 to its No. 3 peak-to-date on the Hot 100. Earlier this week, the song became the rapper's third No. 1 on the Pop Songs radio airplay chart. Rihanna's former 10-week Hot 100 topper "We Found Love," featuring Calvin Harris, slips 3-4, although it spends an 12th frame at No. 1 on Radio Songs (135 million, down 7%). "Love" is one of just 13 titles to command the airplay chart for at least 12 weeks since the list launched in late 1990. David Guetta's "Turn Me On," featuring Nicki Minaj, remains at No. 5 on the Hot 100, jumping into the top 10 (12-8) on Radio Songs (69 million, up 13%) and staying static at No. 3 on Digital Songs (148,000 down 9%). The next three titles in the Hot 100's top 10 all climb to new high points: Jessie J's "Domino" (8-6); Tyga's "Rack City" (10-7); and, Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa's "Young, Wild & Free," featuring Bruno Mars (12-8). LMFAO's former two-week No. 1 "Sexy and I Know It" (7-9) and Mars' "It Will Rain" (6-10) round out the Hot 100's top tier. Just outside the top 10, Madonna roars onto the Hot 100 at No. 13 with "Give Me All Your Luvin'," featuring Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. The first single from Madonna's 12th studio album, "MDNA," due March 26, blasts onto Digital Songs at No. 7 (115,000) and Radio Songs at No. 28 (44 million). Like Clarkson, Her Madgesty enjoyed a Super Bowl spotlight, having performed "Luvin'," along with portions of her past smashes, at the big game's halftime festivities. The track also received special attention from Clear Channel Media and Entertainment's more than 50 monitored pop stations, which played it at the top of every hour from Friday at 9 a.m. ET until kickoff Sunday night. "Luvin' " marks Madonna's 56th Hot 100 appearance, tying her with Dionne Warwick for the second-most visits among women. Only the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin (73 entries), outdistances the Queen of Pop and Warwick in the category. The No. 13 Hot 100 entrance of "Luvin' " ties 1992's "Erotica" for Madonna's fourth-highest. She arrived at loftier ranks only with "Ray of Light" (No. 5, 1998), "You'll See" (No. 8, 1995) and "Frozen" (No. 8, 1998).

Ooh close I was off by 1 in my initial prediction for Madonna! Good for her. And good for Kelly! I was hoping she would snag the top spot.

#13 is very good for Madonna. For three days, yes it's very good. Her problem is there's a chance it will be her peak (or at the very least her second highest charting week) since she pretty much put all of her tricks into those three days (the radio promotion, video release, Super Bowl hype). What left to spike sales once all of the introductory and Super Bowl hype cools off?

Too bad that Kelly's best songs (Breakaway & Since You've Been Gone) never hit #1. Oh well.
Madonna better get Top 10 next week. I wish she'd perform the track somewhere, like on the View or something.

Does anyone have the billboard link where they explain how the Hot 100 is calculated? I know I've seen it on there, but I can't find it.

This upcoming week will be GMAYL's peak, practically guaranteed. She's hopefully gone eke out a week in the lower portion of the top ten. I wouldn't be surprised if it's out of the top 20 entirely the week after.

I wish MKIA had this success but I'm happy for her anyway. It laid the foundation for single "Stronger's" success, that is for certain. A third single will push the album's sales through the roof.

"Hung Up" reached its peak of No. 7 in its fifth week on the Hot 100, after debuting at No. 20 and dropping for a couple weeks thereafter. However, the circumstances for GMAYL are different, and I don't expect it to enjoy a 16-week run in the top 50 (12 weeks in top 40).

What's the record for the biggest second week drop on Hot 100 Airplay/Radio Songs?

I guess I am getting used to songs peaking within the first couple of weeks. Was it released digitally 5 weeks in? or what was the spike in sales caused by for it to peak then?

Not sure if it's a record, but "You Da One," funnily, also entered Hot 100 Airplay at No. 28 (though with a lower audience of 38 million). It dropped 28-54 in its second week.
GMAYL may drop lower.
BRhap- "Hung Up" debuted at No. 20, spurred by a No. 6 debut on Hot Digital Songs and No. 73 Hot 100 Airplay.

Hung Up followed what has become a common pattern, honestly. A fairly high debut based on initial fan reaction, sliding a bit, then climbing back up once more people are aware of the song and it becomes more popular.

If GMAYL didn't climb further, it'd still chart higher than many comeback singles of big acts. Michael Jackson's Hold My Hand barely scraped top 40. The latest single by U2 performed the same and we haven't seen Prince charting in ages.
For more current acts, Coldplay for example are yet to score a top ten hit from their latest album and Drake has only reached #9 despite being one of the biggest stars around atm.

With 111.3 million viewers on NBC, the NFL championship game became the most-watched event in TV history, according to Nielsen. Wow!
