The Beverly Hills PD said there was no obvious cause of death. She was pronounced dead at 3:55 PST.

Wow, this is so damn shocking. My mother started freaking out immediately when she flipped the channel to CNN. R.I.P Whitney Houston, you're music will most certainly live on forever.

I posted in the Grammy thread awhile ago that Davis said he wants his party canceled and the Grammys canceled due to a horrible event that took place but I thought it was a rumor Grammys canceled ??? WTF !!! Why would they ? I do hope they give her a much deserved tribute though. He probably just said that in the heat of his emotions - that is understandable. I am sure he was one of the very first people to find out and is too heartbroken to want to attend anything right now. Also, it is just too soon to cobble together a full tribute...they have less than 24 hours to even think of anything, let alone get it together. Not to mention, putting in a Whitney segment almost surely means something else will have to be chopped. The show's time has already been allotted. They had no way of knowing this would happen. I feel like they should just do a speech + video montage and thus give someone time to put together a PROPER tribute. Whether it be at her funeral or a 2-hour special somewhere just for her...but I am not here for a rushed together medley that you know is going to be a mess b/c half the people involved in it are going to still be hurting and bawling too much to really do it justice.

I think the latter option makes more sense. They could show various singers and industry people and have them share their memories and stories, and then some tribute performances.

"I Will Always Love You" is now #60 on iTunes. I just listened to the clip and in all honesty it's probably my first time hearing this song and years and years. Damn she sounded amazing in her prime. They just don't come like her on radio anymore. Definitely one of the most deserving Pop stars of all time.

Definitely agreed, I don't want them to rush a tribute. When Michael Jackson passed, the BET Awards had 3 days to put something together and even that didn't turn out that great. A little montage video would be nice, though.

The local HotAC station has stopped its regular programming and has switched to all Whitney. She really did have a perfect voice, and a very impressive catalog of hits.

I think the latter option makes more sense. They could show various singers and industry people and have them share their memories and stories, and then some tribute performances. A tribute does not have to be singing one, indeed, just like with Amy and ony other singer, I think throwing some archives of her best performances, have some that were close to her say a few words, representes a more subtle way to do things, and of course her death wasn't planned, lol, so the grammy are unprepared, but because it's not in the timeline they have rehearsed for the past week, it doesn't mean they can't go with events, who care about that ? They can always have the show run longer, plus saying a few words, showing some past vids won't take forever. It's up to them, to the grammys, we'll see. Like you I do'nt want something that seems forced, though.

All I can think about is her daughter. She was a great talent, and she will be missed. My heart goes out to her daughter and the rest of her friends and family.

I just heard this at the grocery store of all places. I guess news travels fast.
So incredibly sad. Such a huge talent, and a voice that was rivaled by none. RIP Whitney.

They played "Greatest Love of All" on CNN and my mother broke down. :(
Like they just said, heaven got a new addition to the choir. RIP. A true, unparalleled legend was lost today.

The Grammy party tonight is officially canceled many sources are confirming.
As for a tribute, they could easily put together something. They just need to grab a few stars and have them sing Whitney songs. They don't need any special stage settings or lighting or whatever. It would be more difficult if said artists wouldn't be around tomorrow. But since almost the entire industry is in LA tonight, I'm sure they will do something.
and the Grammys/other award shows typically run over anyways. I'm sure they could add another 5 minutes to the telecast tomorrow and move some stuff around and still end at a reasonable time. From what I heard about the Grammys/other shows is they factor in a few minutes for buffer time to make way for accidents, errors, etc. So realistically, something could happen on the telecast tomorrow.

Also, it is just too soon to cobble together a full tribute...they have less than 24 hours to even think of anything, let alone get it together. Not to mention, putting in a Whitney segment almost surely means something else will have to be chopped. The show's time has already been allotted. They had no way of knowing this would happen. This makes the most sense. I remember when Michael Jackson passed, and it was a day or two before the BET awards shows (hosted by Jamie Foxx). They tried to "cobble together" a full tribute, and it just looked, well, cobbled together. One of the show biz sites is reporting that Clive's party is turning into memorial, since it was just too late to cancel it. As for the Grammy's, I think the show should definitely go on as scheduled - with remarks and a video montage, as you said. And, you know there will be lots of comments from winners throughout the show about Whitney and her contributions. It will be a very somber show.

I say no to any artist-tribute. I hate that that's the standard for every artist when they pass, there's much better ways of celebrating someone's life or career. Like I saw someone bring up Adele performing "I Will Always Love You" an just the idea of that sounds so tacky.
I like wolfmother's idea of an extended video montage of her best moments with a speech from Clive and something from some of her other artists. Something that viewers can actually appreciate from Whitney, not other artists who wouldn't be able to perform up to her prime standards anyway.
