So some rough numbers using Mediabase numbers and sales info: 1. Part of Me: 44,877 points 2. Set Fire to the Rain:40,930 points 3. I Will Always Love You: 37,200* points 4. Stronger: 35,351 points 5. Rolling in the Deep: 30,100 points* 6. We Are Young: 25,517 points 7. Someone Like You: 23,822 points 8. Starships: 22,160 points 9/10/11. Turn Up the Music: 20,233 points We Found Love: Good Feeling: "Good Feeling" had sales of 110k or so last week (if there are other versions, more); "We Found Love' had more than 84K (counting all versions). It's possible that "Turn Up the Music" may miss out on top 10 this week, but may get it next week. Remarkably accurate!

You're too kind in that assessment, br, but I know you have a soft spot for that Benassi mix. There isn't really anything on Hard Candy that I LOVE, so I agree on that one. Looking forward to the GGW push- with the album due in less than five weeks, Interscope should be pushing it within the next few weeks, I'd think. And maybe M actually will take part in promo and perform it during album-release week. Clear channel pushed it very hard I didnt see Tom petty getting this kinda Luv doing the half time show. But then again Livenation aka clear channel is her label and owns close to 750 radio stations in this country

One Direction Has Highest Hot 100 Debut For New U.K. Act Since 1998 by Keith Caulfield, L.A. | February 22, 2012 5:55 EST LinkVocal group One Direction makes waves on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart this week as its "What Makes You Beautiful" debuts at No. 28. It's the highest bow for a U.K. act's debut U.S. single in nearly 14 years. "Beautiful" sold 132,000 downloads in its first week according to Nielsen SoundScan, starting at No. 12 on the Digital Songs chart. Formed on the 2010 edition of the U.K.'s "X Factor" TV program, the male quintet earns the highest new-Brit Hot 100 launch since the Verve's "Bittersweet Symphony" entered at No. 13 on the chart dated March 28, 1998. (While that wasn't necessarily the Verve's very first single, it was their first Hot 100 entry.) To be more exacting, the last U.K. act (solo or otherwise) to start higher than One Direction with their true first U.S. single was singer Jimmy Ray with "Are You Jimmy Ray?" on Feb. 21, 1998 (No. 26). Finally, the last U.K. group to see its first U.S. single start higher was the Spice Girls, when "Wannabe" landed at No. 11 on Jan. 25, 1997. "Wannabe" vaulted to No. 1 four weeks later, spending four straight weeks at the top of the tally. The success of "Beautiful" may only be just beginning. It makes its retail launch even before One Direction's record label -- Columbia -- officially begins going for airplay at pop radio next week. One Direction comprises Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson. All of the group hails from U.K., save for Horan, who is from Ireland. The five young gents (ages 18-20) have nabbed three top three U.K. singles and reached No. 2 with its debut album "Up All Night" in November 2011. "Night" will be released in the U.S. on March 13 via SYCO/Columbia. Last night (Feb. 21), the act won its first Brit Award (essentially the U.K. equivalent of the U.S.' Grammy) for best British single for "What Makes You Beautiful." (The category is one of three Brit Awards determined by a public vote.) Next up for the group will be a U.S. tour with Big Time Rush beginning Feb. 24 in Chicago, with dates lined up through March 9 at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. They'll also play NBC's "Today" show on March 12 -- the day before "Up All Night" is released. One Direction follows in the recent success of fellow U.K. quintet the Wanted, who jump 25-23 on the Hot 100 this week with "Glad You Came." So far, the single has moved 418,000 downloads. The song also rises 16-13 on the Pop Songs airplay tally this week. (Additional reporting by Gary Trust)

Euliss, if you think those tracks are good (especially Chris Brown- shudder), good on you. :)

Ashanti said she really should've had 4 Top 10s if you include her uncredited feature on JLO's Aint It Funny Remix. Irv Gotti didn't give her credit. Did she just do backing vocals? I don't recall hearing her on the track. If she only did backing vocals, I don't think it would merit a credit as a featured artist. Didn't she write part of the lyrics to the remix?

^Does that mean she sold 11,104 copies on Sunday night directly after the Grammys?

So 16.318 airplay plus 11.104 sales makes 27.422 points for the previous Hot 100. Minus some airplay, most likely, since Billboard's airplay is usually lower.
How many points does the #100 song normally get. Does anyone know?

Did she just do backing vocals? I don't recall hearing her on the track. If she only did backing vocals, I don't think it would merit a credit as a featured artist. Didn't she write part of the lyrics to the remix? Yep. She wrote part of the lyrics and demoed the song. They kept some of demo vocals for the backgrounds.

Isn't it rumored that Ashanti did the backing vocals for the "I'm Real" remix too?

Yeah, it usually is. He used to put them out at like 4pm. Now we're lucky to get it before midnight. I don't get why he takes so long...

So, seeing Katy Perry's total kinda confirms that West coast sales for three hours do count for the previous week? Or, was "Part of me" put on iTunes at 9 p.m. EST last Sunday night? I thought it was midnight EST.

I really want to go to bed since tomorrow night I ddon't get to sleep at all (flying through the night) but I'm being a big music nerd right now and waiting up for Gotye and Calvin Harris' chart positions that I don't even really care about all that much. Yea, I'm cool. LOL

I don't think Gotye will have budged much... His sales position is almost the same as last week and his airplay has stayed the same (with as much support as he can get from AAA and rock formats). And with Nicki and Chris Brown debuting, I wouldn't be surprised if he kept the same position as last week.

Has a song been in top ten after spending a year on chart before? Yah, I brought this up on another thread. Macarena hit #10 in it's 55th week as a result of boosted airplay in year-end countdowns. It was off the chart completely 6 weeks later. Thank you! Didn't know this piece of trivia.

I thought it was midnight EST. yea, i do recall people saying they had bought it, and it wasn't midnight here yet, and i'm on the west coast. That means it was available prior to midnight EST. However, i do think you're right that the actual sales week starts on the east coast and ends on the west coast, so for me over here, sales weeks start Sunday night at 9pm and end the next Sunday at 9pm...vs. 12am.

I'm pretty sure there's just one time cutoff for the sales week. I live in the UK but still purchase music off of the US Itunes store, and I doubt it matters if it's really 4am Monday morning here in the UK (which would be 11pm EST Sunday) - it would probably still count for the previous week.

Songs: Women Take ChargePosted by Paul Grein | Chart Watch Female solo artists hold down seven of the top 10 spots on this week's Hot 100. Katy Perry leads the charge as "Part Of Me" debuts at #1 with first-week sales of 411K. Adele has three songs in the top 10 (a first for a female lead artist) in the first full week following her Grammy sweep. Whitney Houston, Kelly Clarkson and Nicki Minaj are also listed in the top 10. A female-led collabo, "We Found Love" by Rihanna featuring Calvin Harris, brings the tally up to eight. Here's another indication of how dominant women are in pop these days. Five of the last six songs to enter the Hot 100 at #1 are by female solo artists: Britney Spears (twice), Ke$ha, Lady Gaga and now Perry. The only male artist to do it in this time frame is Eminem. Only one song by a female solo artist has had a higher first-week digital sales tally than Perry's "Part Of Me" rang up this week. Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" started with sales of 448K a year ago. (Britney Spears' "Hold It Against Me" also bowed with sales of 411K, though Spears' exact total was a bit less than Perry's.) Both of those songs also debuted at #1. Perry introduced "Part Of Me" on the Grammys. The song is from Perry's Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection, which is due March 27. It's Perry's first song to debut at #1, though this isn't her biggest sales week. "Firework" sold 509K copies in its 11th week over the holidays in 2010. When "The One That Got Away" peaked at #3, everybody was focused on how Perry just missed landing a record-breaking sixth #1 single from Teenage Dream. Now we can see that, if "The One That Got Away" had hit the top, Perry would this week have tied Whitney Houston's record of seven consecutive #1 singles. At this point, I guess, it's coulda-woulda-shoulda. Adele has three songs in this week's top 10 in the first full week after her sweep of the Grammys. "Set Fire To The Rain" holds at #2, "Rolling In The Deep" vaults from #17 to #5 and "Someone Like You" jumps from #11 to #7. Billboard's Gary Trust notes that this marks the first time that a female lead artist has had three songs in the top 10 simultaneously. Adele is the first artist to have three songs in the top 10 simultaneously as a lead artist since Chris Brown scored in May 2008 with "No Air" (a 50-50 duet with Jordin Sparks), "Forever" and "With You." In addition, Adele's new single, "Rumour Has It," re-enters the chart at #67. (It has climbed as high as #60.) Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You" jumps from #7 to #3 in the first full week following her death. "I Will Always Love You" is the first single to return to the top five on Billboard's pop chart 10 years or more after it first made the top five. (The song first made the top five the week of Nov. 28, 1992.) "I Will Always Love You" sold even more copies than Katy Perry's "Part Of Me" did this week, if you combine the three different versions that appear on this week's Digital Songs chart. Houston's version sold 367K copies. Amber Riley's version from Glee sold 36K copies. Jennifer Hudson's version from the Grammys sold 15K. Grand total: 418K, compared to 411K for "Part Of Me." Houston has three other songs on this week's Hot 100. "I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)" jumps from #35 to #25, "Greatest Love Of All" jumps from #41 to #36 and "How Will I Know" re-enters at #49. (George Merrill and Shannon Rubicam shared a co-writing credit on "How Will I Know" with producer Narada Michael Walden. The then-married couple wrote the subsequent "Wanna Dance" by themselves. In 1988, they had a top five hit of their own, under the name Boy Meets Girl, with "Waiting For A Star To Fall.") Houston has 24 songs on this week's Hot Digital Songs chart, up from 22 last week. In the first two weeks after his death, Michael Jackson had 49 and then 46 songs on the chart (counting hits with the Jackson 5.) Jackson had a bigger catalog of hits than Houston and was a bigger star, though the outpouring we've seen in the last two weeks reminds us just how big Houston was in her heyday. Houston's rendition of "I Will Always Love You" sold more than twice as many copies this week as any of Jackson's songs sold in any one week in the wake of his death. Jackson's top posthumous sales week for an individual song came when "Thriller" sold 167K copies in the week after he died. The Houston song that posted the greatest sales increase this week, on a percentage basis, was "I Look To You." (Sales jumped by 131% compared to last week.) R. Kelly sang the song (which he wrote) at Houston's funeral service. The song was the title track to Houston's final album. (R. Kelly also wrote Michael Jackson's last #1 hit, 1995's "You Are Not Alone.") Nicki Minaj's "Starships" debuts at #9. This is from Minaj's second album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, which is due April 3. The song is Minaj's sixth top 10 hit; her second as a lead artist. Chris Brown's "Turn Up The Music" debuts at #10. This is Brown's 11th top 10 hit. It's from Brown's fifth album, Fortune, which is due March 16. The album title, of course, is linked to the title of Brown's Grammy-winning F.A.M.E. album. This hit is generating extra buzz because of a remix featuring Rihanna, who is either very forgiving or really likes generating buzz. Here's the low-down on this week's top 10 songs. 1. Katy Perry, "Part Of Me." This new entry is Perry's 10th top 10 hit; her seventh to reach #1. Digital sales rank: #1 (411K). 2. Adele, "Set Fire To The Rain." The former #1 song holds at #2 for the third straight week in its 25th week on the chart. This is its ninth week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #4 (254K). 3. Whitney Houston, "I Will Always Love You." The former #1 song jumps from #7 to #3 in its 28th week. This is its 18th week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #2 (367K). 4. Kelly Clarkson, "Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)." The former #1 song drops to #4 in its ninth week on the chart. This is its fifth week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #5 (252K). 5. Adele, "Rolling In The Deep." The former #1 song rebounds from #17 to #5 in its 59th week. This is its 20th week in the top 10; its first since the week ending Aug. 7. Jason Mraz's 2008 smash "I'm Yours" tops the 6 million in digital sales this week. It's the ninth song to reach this sales plateau and the only one of these that didn't reach #1 on the Hot 100. Which is another way of saying that this song has sold more digital copies than any other song that fell short of the #1 spot. (The song, which Mraz calls his "happy hippie song," peaked at #6.) Bruno Mars' "Just The Way You Are" this week becomes the 25th song to top the 5 million mark in digital sales. This gem was Mars' first solo smash in 2010, following a pair of hit collabos. It topped the Hot 100 for four weeks and later won a Grammy for Best Pop Male Vocal Performance. (Mars' follow-up hit, "Grenade," will top the 5 million mark next week. Its sales stand at 4,996,000). Rihanna's "You Da One" tops the 1 million mark in digital sales. The song peaked at #14 on the Hot 100, which is a so-so showing for Rihanna. Why was this song not "da one" for Rihanna? Discuss among yourselves. To My Readers: Sorry I'm late today. Jury duty. On a chart day, yet. There oughta be a law.

Didn't she write part of the lyrics to the remix? Yep. She wrote part of the lyrics and demoed the song. They kept some of demo vocals for the backgrounds. Not to detract from her contributions, but writing some lyrics and keeping some of her vocals for the backgrounds does not merit a feature on a track, in my opinion.

Looks like Shake It Out finally got shaken out. It had a surprisingly good run, though.

Hey, is that deadmau5's first Hot 100 hit?
Also, what triggered Selena's big sales gain? I'd really like this song to sneak into the top 20. Amazing longevity.

Yep. She wrote part of the lyrics and demoed the song. They kept some of demo vocals for the backgrounds. Not to detract from her contributions, but writing some lyrics and keeping some of her vocals for the backgrounds does not merit a feature on a track, in my opinion. It doesn't merit a feature, but had she received the songwriting credit she would have had four simultaneous top 10 songs as a songwriter (i think...she does have co-writing credits on What's Love and Always On Time, right?). I mean, now we know it to be true but it's always that much nicer to have that kind of thing on record.

RITD passed POKER FACE 4yrs sales! Wow. Super-impressive considering how massive Poker Face was. And to think...there were some who said Rolling wasn't the song of 2011.
