No one on the horizon to beating Adele until March at the earliest (I assume she'll be selling only 150k per week by then): 3/6 Bruce Springsteen 225k? 3/13 One Direction 150k? (now I know why they moved up release date a week....there's no competition for #1 except Adele) 3/20 Hunger Games Soundtrack (Taylor Swift) 200k? 3/26 Madonna - estimated first week sales of 195k it will sell more than that. If GGW hits, it will sell more than that. Plus it's not including people who will buy more than 1 copy, like me. ;)

Don't see how GGW could hit when the first single with hype and collabs fizzled out so quickly. Multiple copies won't matter much and Madonna probably won't make appearances late March because she will be in heavy rehearsals by then.

American Life scanned 241,000 on the back of a lead single that barely cracked the top 40, in a far less competitive Hot 100 environment. That was in 2003, but first-week sales have suffered less than overall album sales (sans Adele, of course). So, potential is there, just because it is a new Madonna album.
I'd think Interscope will want her to partake in some form of major promotional appearances- especially if outlets are in the region where she's rehearsing.

MDNA is a big questionmark to me atm. However, her fanbase alone will guarantee 150k+

If you're buying multiple copies just to boost sales, I suggest you save your money or donate it to a good cause.

It will mean the difference between 188,027 and 188,029 perhaps, hardly vaulting it to #1. If you happen to have lots of money and intend to buy out the store, with hundreds copies in your area for instance, Soundscan meters will detect that as an anomaly and not count it anyway

Seeing last year's and this year's with the same album at the top selling approximately the same...
Adele is truly a beast... definitely a legend in the making. She is singlehandedly defying every predication made about the album sales environment for 2011 and 2012.

Bruno Mars' album re-entered the top 10 last week, post-Grammys, but will drop from there this week, leaving Ms. Adkins' album as the only one in the top 10 from a year ago (and, to think, it's never left).

I wonder how much 21 would have sold if there were no radio hits from it. Definitely not 7 million, though.

It's all just speculation, of course, but I'd guess somewhere on the upper end of that prediction. Don't forget that word-of-mouth on the album as a whole was excellent before "Rolling in the Deep" smashed, and the album opened with 325k without a hit.

I wonder how much 21 would have sold if there were no radio hits from it. Definitely not 7 million, though. The songs were only mainstream radio hits in the first place because of how much the album and singles were already selling -- radio just couldn't ignore Adele and still can't. Maybe not 7 million, but let's not assume radio was the deciding factor here.

Wow. Whitney has 3 albums in the Top 10. Yea, her albums were re-stocked sometime early last week. So there was a lot more physical stock of her album this week :)
