Wow... this is really ridiculous Billboard. 521k and not being #1??? Just wow.. Their formula is beyond inaccurate.

I'm astounded streaming made that big of a difference. Can't say I'm disappointed, though.

Wow... this is really ridiculous Billboard. 521k and not being #1??? Just wow.. Their formula is beyond inaccurate. A month ago, this would have been #1. I like the new formula However, since they are acknowledging a heavier streaming effect, it is not Sales and conventional radio airplay are not the only compenents anymore to measure a songs popularity

I guess this means we'll be seeing a lot less number one debuts in the future.

And more songs spending 15 weeks at #1. I don't like it.

Are you kidding me? 1 million streams is worth the same as 100 million AI?

Even taking Bieber out of the equation...
It's amazing to me that 1.18 million streams for fun. is worth more on the chart than their 104 million audience impressions from radio.
I guess the breakdown of the chart (on average, since it fluctuates any given week) is pretty much sales 40%, airplay 30%, streaming 30%.

Not necessarily. Fun. Is an unusual juggernaut and now labels know to release new releases to stream immediately.

So for the future, it looks like you can tack on an automatic 100 points to the #1 streaming song.

I think it's 40% sales, 35% radio airplay, and 25% on-demand stream. Sales>radio>ods

Bieber's label is probably kicking themselves right now for not putting Boyfriend up for streams.

Halleujah. Gotye for #1 next week, please. If Gotye can make #1, it's still weeks away. I'm starting to doubt he will now... just imagine how big Bieber's streaming will be once it's available. He may not have debuted at #1, but given the fact that a major component of chart points aren't even factored into his total yet and he's already #2 with airplay holding strong and maintaining Top 3 on iTunes, he'll be a force to contend with for #1.

This is so wrong. I see a future thrash in this thread over this debacle.

Bieber's label is probably kicking themselves right now for not putting Boyfriend up for streams. Maybe. I think this is the first time we are really seeing the impact of streaming since fun. has been so dominant in everything up to this point. And it's such a new component, it probably wasn't set up to be part of the marketing equation.

Fun = 110 + 364 = 474 Beiber = 45 + 521 = 566 #1 debut is guaranteed. :) So basically it's probably actually: Fun = 110 + 364 +118 = 592 Bieber = 45 + 521 + 0 = 566

^That was just a guess, I multipled Mediabase by 0.8, but the actual airplay numbers are: Bieber - 521 + 40 + ~10 = 571 fun. - 363 + 104 + 118 = 585 I don't really get this formula. What is On-Demand streaming anyway? Youtube views? ???

Also, just to compare with the #3 song, Gotye's points would probably be the following:
244 + 52 + 96 = 392
That kind of shows 1) how streaming impacts a lot more than radio and 2) how big of a gap there is between #1 and #3 (almost 200 chart points still :o )

I think ODS = paying a subscription to stream. Like Spotify.

remember that most songs got less than a million on-demand streams. so 850,000 got 850 points. then WAY's 1.18m streams' 1180 points.

That's quite a difference going from 5% to 25% streaming. It certainly makes radio less influential, which might actually be a good thing in the long run. Hopefully Bieber still gets #1 in the future.
