WHITE EARNS HIS STRIPES Guitar Maestro's Debut Solo Album Headed for His First-Ever #1 Debut
April 25, 2012
The Blunderbuss stops here.
Rock guitar god Jack White's debut solo album on Third Man/Columbia is headed for the top of next week's chart with a sales total projected at between 110-120k for his first-ever #1 bow.
That's based on one-day sales reports from those retailers still conscious after partying over last weekend's impressive Record Store Day sales results. Can we get a vinyl witness?
MCA Nashville Tifton, GA, country singer-songwriter Kip Moore's debut album, Up All Night, is set to bow with a total in the 40-45k range after scoring a Top 10 country single with potential novelty crossover in "Somethin' 'bout a Truck."
Curb country songwriter-turned-performer Lee Brice's sophomore album, Hard 2 Love, his follow-up to 2010's Love Like Crazy, is on target for sales of 37-42k.
Mercury/IDJ's entry into the neo-boy band sweepstakes, U.K.'s The Wanted, arrive with a seven-track EP that includes their megasmash, "Glad You Came," which appears ready to sell 35-40k.
Josh Abbott Band, a country-rock group out of Texas which has been hovering near the top of the iTunes album chart all week, will see sales of 23-27k for Small Town Family Dream, their third release on indie label Pretty Damn Tough.
Finally, world-renowned Dutch DJ Tiesto's Club Life Volume Two Miami, on the Musical Freedom label, looks set to bow in the 12-15k range.

Humiliating! One Direction is going to place higher than them on the chart during their debut week.

Wasn't expecting Jack White to be #1 at all. Good for him. And ouch at the Wanted.

Why are The Wanted releasing an EP? The full-length album is out everywhere else I believe?
Hoped a bit better for Lee Brice, with a big hit and such...

I can't say I'm too surprised with The Wanted's numbers. I always knew One Direction would be the bigger group in terms of sales. If they're able to get 1-2 more hits from this album they might be able to reach Gold.

Did anyone really expect The Wanted to sell any records? Their type of music doesn't shift units. And as much as Scooter Braun tries to create hype for them, they just don't have the following that One Direction does.

Thought The Wanted would have sold a lot more simply because of the low price they are selling at. One Direction have a great Pop album though that deseves to sell well. Strange to see another album with the Up All Night title in the chart too though. Well done to Jack White too. Great sales for him.

I've seen countless girls post on facebook about One Direction, but never about The Wanted, so this isn't really a surprise. Glad You Came is just a good song, but I doubt they'll keep going, unlike One Direction.

Why are The Wanted releasing an EP? The full-length album is out everywhere else I believe? The Wanted's 'EP' has 10 tracks so it is like a mini album. It contains songs from both of their albums plus some new songs. They have a new album coming out this Summer. Their last album came out last Fall overseas and they are basically done with that one in terms of singles. It would have made sense to release it last year when they tried with "All Time Low" which had little to no proper promotion and failed to catch on here. It would have been really odd to release the album now and then do 3-4 singles from it while simultaneously releasing a new album overseas. The promotion would just be so out of sync. Male pop artists have traditionally moved fewer albums (i.e. Usher, Jay Sean, Enrique Iglesias, etc.). Boybands like Backstreet Boys and N Sync sold well back in the day because they had lots of hype and promotion and the music struck a chord with the public. I think a little more promotion could have helped The Wanted sell better. They did do American Idol and The Voice recently, but it looks like that promo didn't help much at all. The success of their current single will be the litmus test for whether they will have any further success in the U.S. right now. I could see their label trying again with the next album in the Summer, but that might be a stretch.

I don't know why people are surprised.
Jack White's New Release Schedule estimate was 110k and The Wanted's estimate was 47k.
I thought Lee Brice would do a little bit more. He's really talented. His single was just #1 at country radio.

People can say this music doesn't sell all they want, but 35K for a boyband with a #1 smash hit right now, heavy hype, a heavily publicized rivalry, cheap prices for a first week, and steady promo including two of the biggest shows on TV right now is pretty disappointing. I cannot imagine they are cheering over or content with those numbers.

Why does HITS say 7-track EP? Ten tracks is a full-blown album; back in the day, eight-nine tracks was an album.
Will be great if Jack White's album tops 100K.

LOL. I wasn't expecting much for The Wanted but that's even lower than my predictions. I would've at least expected them to top 50k. I guess they're the Jason Derulo of boybands.

The "special edition" of the EP has ten tracks; the regular has seven.

Ouch at The Wanted, i though they would pass 100k If One Direction is Jonas Brothers, then The Wanted is Jason Derulo. Ironic because Glad You Came is more successful sales and airplay-wise compared to What makes You Beautiful. One Direction got massive hype though in US and they already have fanbase, I don't think The Wanted has significance fanbase yet in US

It would have made sense to release it last year when they tried with "All Time Low" which had little to no proper promotion and failed to catch on here. The Ralphi Rosario remixes got ATL to a Top 20 placement on the Club Play chart. I was surprised it took so long to get the album out here.

Why are people shocked at Jack White? He is very popular and a well respected artist. I always predicted soft 100k numbers for him without a doubt.

Had they sold near 100k, I would have been very surprised. I was thinking they would have opened with 50-65k with the present level of promotion, and on the heels of a hit a single there would have been a little more interest. It also could be that they can't move albums even if the music is good. It would have made sense to release it last year when they tried with "All Time Low" which had little to no proper promotion and failed to catch on here. The Ralphi Rosario remixes got ATL to a Top 20 placement on the Club Play chart. I was surprised it took so long to get the album out here. ATL had an adds date on CHR/Pop too.

Not surprised at TW. I pegged them months ago as the boy and equivalent to Jason DeRülo, Taio Cruz, Jay Sean, and the likes. There's no personal investment in the artist. No album selling ability. Just 'generic' pop song sure to be hits. 1D remains unbothered.

WOW, that's good for Jack!! And .... for The Wanted. They should never ever talk s**t again. What did they do/say? The Wanted have constantly ridiculed One Direction in interviews for their appeal to young fans and the fact The Wanted are more than just a typical boyband. Global Management who manage The Wanted also own Capital Radio in the UK and they have banned One Direction from being played on their station giving the reason that they thanked the wrong radio station for their Brit ( It was Capital listeners ) but the real reason many feel is that they are competition to The Wanted.

Hmmm ... no mention of Carole King. I thought she might sell enough this week to warrant a mention seeing how her album is up to #12 on Amazon and has been in their top 100 for over 2 weeks. Guess not. We'll see when the final numbers come in.
