I love Katy and pretty much every single choice up until now...but I think PoM really should have been the end. Unlike seemingly everyone on here, I don't think WA is an amazing song, nor a terrible one. It'd be a suitable album track, but I really don't think it has a strong enough chorus to be a pop smash.
Not hoping it flops by any means, but not expecting much after the initial momentum from PoM's success dies down.

Pity, shes only had ONE real flop/lackluster performing song Thinking Of You. Why take the risk here and add another if most dont like it? TOY was (for me) the highlight of her concert, and from the reaction of the crowd, many other's as well. She should take some chances on her future songs and do what feels right for her. She's got great instincts. I also don't think she should step away too long. Rihanna hasn't stepped away at all and the hits keep coming. She must have a robot body-double or something... I actually like Wide Awake much more than Part of Me, but whatever...

Katy can't just step away from the spotlight and take a long break; she's the kind of artist who needs to strike while the iron is hot. We've seen what lengthy breaks can do to the careers of certain musicians (Christina, Avril, etc.). Katy would be smart to let this song run its course and then drop a new album late this year or early next year.

I don't think this will be a runaway smash either, but I have a feeling they will capitalize on the video premiere, her movie, and maybe even a discount to hit the highest chart peak all at once.

Katy would be smart to let this song run its course and then drop a new album late this year or early next year. Then she needs to make sure she keeps varying her scope of material and not trot out increasingly depressive single after another (beginning with "The One That Got Away") that dwell on the Russell Brand situation. Otherwise, she'll overstay her welcome among listeners and that's often just as risky as taking an extended break. Namaste, lisping HIBISCUS

If this reaches Top 5 wont she break Janet's record? Or will it not count since its a re-release?

Which is odd since all sales for the re-release count towards the album, but whatever. Edit: Not like anyone cares, but this one against Akon's "Hurt Somebody" on my local CHR's Jam It or Slam It tonight. I hope it can get all four wins and retire.

My local CHR is playing it again right now because of its win tonight. It sounds perfect on radio! TBH, since they played it right after Umbrella, it already sounds like a smash. :'(

How official are these "records" anyway? It'll only get referenced in future issues of Chart Beat or whatever and can be mentioned around here when applicable and for all intents and purposes, it's a record, just that it should be mentioned it's from a re-release but essentially the same era/album/project. Even though it wasn't released until later, aren't the new tracks from Confection songs recorded during the original sessions?

Seriously... she needs to take a break. I liked her stuff until "Last Friday Night". Now I totally despise her and can't stand to hear any of her stuff on the radio. It just sounds so pre-fabricated, commercial blandness. She's a milking cow for the music industry. This makes no sense. 'Last Friday Night' and 'The One That Got Away' are from the same album that the other four songs you liked are from so it's not like she suddenly became pre-fabricated and bland at that point.

Any of the remaining songs on the regular Teenage Dream would have been a better single than this. Every single one of them.

Actually it wouldn't surprise me at all to see any of the remaining tracks from Teenage Dream be released and do better than this song once it's all said and done.

Honestly, the only one I can see doing better than Wide Awake is Hummingbird Heartbeat, but I'd rather have Wide Awake, a really different song than the past 7 singles, released, than Hummingbird Heartbeat, which is the Teenage Dream/Last Friday Night love child, even if the latter has more commercial appeal.

At the end of the video Katy says she's wrapping up the era after Wide Awake.

E.T. on steroids is all I need. I hope ET on steroids means beautiful costumes/make up, but with an actual storyline "E.T." may not have had a complex plot, but it did have a story line. In a battered and broken world, alien Katy finds love with a half-man/half-goat, while she also learns about the history of the desolate planet as she touches the remains of the Earth. All of her music videos have had a story except for IKAG. (And maybe USG. I can't really remember that video too well.)

I didn't like the video for E.T., so I'm cautiously optimistic.
