Headed into the Mother's Day weekend, it now looks as if Carrie Underwood will score her first-ever second week at #1. Shockingly, no album by Underwood has ever spent more than one week at the top. Adele, who earlier in the week appeared as a likely challenger, may now have to settle for #2. Past history, however, suggests she can never be counted out, especially with Mother's Day this Sunday. Here's how it looks headed into the weekend: Carrie Underwood (19/Arista Nashville) 105-115k Adele (XL/Columbia) 90-95k Now 42 (Capitol/EMI) 70-75k Lionel Richie (Mercury Nashville) 60-65k Norah Jones (Blue Note/EMI) 60-65k *Silversun Pickups (Dangerbird) 35-40k One Direction (Syco/Columbia) 35-40k Jack White (Third Man/Columbia) 30-35k *Tank (Atlantic) 27-30k B.o.B. (Atlantic) 24-27k Gotye (Fairfax/Universal Republic) 24-27k Luke Bryan (Capitol Nashville/EMI) 24-27k *Keane (Interscope) 18-21k Smash (Columbia) 18-21k Nicki Minaj (Young Money/Cash Money/Universal Republic) 18-21k *Karmin (Epic) 18-21k *Debuts (5/10p) Why does this person keep stressing Mother's Day and Adele...does her album hold a specific interest for mothers? What makes him/her think Mother's Day won't have a similar affect for Carrie? Sure sounds to me like he wants Adele to win...where as I sure hope she doesn't... :)

Adele holds an interest to everyone, and she experienced a strong bump for Mother's day last year and Easter this year, as well as some other unexpected gains throughout the year (not to mention her hugely unexpected success in general). It's not a vendetta against Carrie, it's eliminating any potential for embarrassment should their predictions be wrong because Adele has, yet again, surpassed expectations. It will also drive more traffic to their site if they continue to hype up this battle, so it's a win-win for them.

Adele has an NBC special on June 5, with interviews and performances from her DVD being aired. Should boost her single and album sales. Another week at #1 then? What's being released then? The biggest artists I see that week are Brandi Carlile, The Beach Boys, and Emeli Sandé (Emeli's is her debut and she's not popular here yet; the other two didn't do even remotely well with their last few albums)...so I wouldn't be surprised to see her at #1 again. I don't think anything from the weeks before that will hold at #1 for long enough either; I think John Mayer is the biggest release between now and then and he won't stay at the top for that long (his last album made a record-setting second-week drop, I think).

Next week could be another battle between adele and carrie for #1. But they could both be around or below 70k. I dont think lambert can sell that much

Lambert's got American Idol and Good Morning America lined up. Not sure if the former is within next week's tracking week or the following week?
Either way I think he'll open with around 60k. Probably not enough for #1.

Phew...
I was a little nervous, still am, but I feel slightly better. Great second week for Carrie, right about where she should be selling in her second week. 105k would be about a 60% drop. 115k would be about 57%, so Mother's Day is definitely helping out. Without the holiday, the drop would probably be closer to 70%.

Probably not enough for #1. His American Idol performance is on the 17th, the same episode as Lisa Marie Presley's performance. It will be during their debut tracking week.

I think John Mayer is the biggest release between now and then and he won't stay at the top for that long (his last album made a record-setting second-week drop, I think). just because his second week was a busy november week. It fell from 1 to 13 but it was a 67% drop, nothing really impressive

I'm a little surprised that Karmin isn't doing a little better in general. I thought they had that geek/sheek/cool thing down. Do you think "Crash Your Party" killed their vibe a little? I thought that was going to be a Top 20 hit for sure. Lol. They even got a gig on SNL but raido didn't initally bite? Their current song is good but it kind of has a Jessie J vibe to it.

Silversun Pickups, Tank, Karmin and Keane Aiming for Top of Billboard 200by Keith Caulfield, L.A. | May 11, 2012 9:02 EDT Carrie Underwood's "Blown Away" may find itself at No. 1 for a second week on the Billboard 200 albums chart, fending off Adele's "21." Industry sources suggest Underwood's fourth album will sell between 95,000 and 110,000 by the end of the tracking week on Sunday, May 13. Adele's "21" may have to settle for the runner-up slot -- unless the Mother's Day holiday really smiles on the big-selling set. The new Billboard 200 chart's top 10 will be revealed on the morning of Wednesday, May 16. Carrie Underwood, 'Blown Away': Track-By-Track Review Next week's highest debut will likely be rock act Silversun Pickups' "Neck of the Woods" with perhaps 40,000. It might be one of only two debuts in the top 10 next week, courtesy of a light release schedule. It's a bit unusual that few big-named albums were released this week, considering the Mother's Day weekend can be counted on for a lot of female-driven sales. To compare, during last year's Mother's Day week, there were eight debuts in the top 10. The new arrivals were led by Beastie Boys' "Hot Sauce Committee Part Two" (No. 2), the "Now 38" album (No. 3), Fleet Foxes' "Helplessness Blues" (No. 4), Jennifer Lopez's "Love?" (No. 5), Stevie Nicks' "In Your Dreams" (No. 6), Sade's "Ultimate Collection" (No. 7), Musiq Soulchild's "Musiqinthemagiq" (No. 8) and SIXX:AM's "This Is Gonna Hurt" (No. 10). (Adele's "21" was in its seventh nonconsecutive week at No. 1.) How Karmin & Other Viral Stars Turn YouTube Covers Into Major Label Deals As for next week's second-highest debut? Tank's fifth album "This Is How I Feel" could see a start in the top 10, while Karmin's debut set "Hello" is on course for a top 20 arrival. Keane's latest, "Strangeland," is also poised for a top 20 entry. On Nielsen SoundScan's Building chart (below), Underwood is No. 1 while Adele's "21" is planted at No. 2. The Building tally is a precursor to the final Billboard 200 ranking -- reflecting the first four days (Monday through Thursday) of SoundScan's tracking week as reported by six major merchants. As for the rest of the Building Chart: The "Now 42" compilation is in third place, Lionel Richie's "Tuskegee" is in fourth and Norah Jones' "Little Broken Hearts" is No. 5. Silversun Pickups is No. 6, One Direction's sturdy "Up All Night" is No. 7, B.o.B's "Strange Clouds" is No. 8 and Jack White's "Blunderbuss" is No. 9. Rounding out the top 10 of the Building chart is Karmin's "Hello" at No. 10. Nielsen SoundScan Building Chart Rank LW BB 200 Artist Title 1 1 Carrie Underwood "Blown Away" 2 4 Adele "21" 3 3 Various Artists "Now 42" 4 6 Lionel Richie "Tuskegee" 5 2 Norah Jones "Little Broken Hearts" 6 NEW Silversun Pickups "Neck of the Woods" 7 8 One Direction "Up All Night" 8 5 B.o.B "Strange Clouds" 9 7 Jack White "Blunderbuss" 10 NEW Karmin "Hello" The Building Chart reflects the first four days (Monday through Thursday) of SoundScan's tracking week (which ends Sunday) as reported by six major merchants: iTunes, Trans World Entertainment, Best Buy, Starbucks, Target and Anderson Merchandisers. Billboard estimates that they make up about 85% of all U.S. album sales. Link

People still buy NOW albums, even with digital retailers being as big as they are? I can understand buying the older ones (I picked up NOW 18 myself in a bargain bin a couple weeks ago), but why now when cherry-picking singles is so easy? Cheaper, I suppose? I'm a little surprised that Karmin isn't doing a little better in general. I thought they had that geek/sheek/cool thing down. Do you think "Crash Your Party" killed their vibe a little? I thought that was going to be a Top 20 hit for sure. Lol. They even got a gig on SNL but raido didn't initally bite? Their current song is good but it kind of has a Jessie J vibe to it. Firstly, the word you were looking for is "chic," haha. Secondly, I don't think "Crash Your Party" could have killed their vibe since it barely did anything and was their first single...there was no vibe to kill yet. However, I don't think one single alone has given people enough interest in Karmin to purchase the EP...another single or two that performs well should help (if not with the EP, a full-length album later).

Norah seems like she wil hold up pretty well in her second week. I haven't had a chance to check out the full product yet but I thought the first single was very interesting for her.

Carrie Underwood #'s might be higher than 54.02% of its final total, others listed in the top 50 might be below 54.02% of its final total. There is no way to tell My comment was directed at any post that reacts to numbers listed in this chart before it becomes FINAL.

Well for what it's worth, I saw some discussion talking about when 54.02% is reported, Adele typically trends 50%-70% more than the 54.02% number. Using that with Carrie, she'd place anywhere between 130-150k. That seems overly optimistic, but it is possible they underestimated the Mother's Day weekend affect. Of course they could just be messing with the reporting order and all, but it doesn't hurt to speculate.
Typically at 54.02%, most albums trend 50-100% over that number, from what I've seen. So it may be that HITS severely underestimated this week ???

Adele's Label 'To Re-Release 21 With New Tracks' Adele's record company is reported to be planning to bring out a repackaged version of her smash-hit album 21 in time for Christmas - including some extra tracks.
The Daily Star Sunday claims that XL Recordings is hoping to see it become the biggest-selling album in UK chart history, which this year moved up to fifth place in the all-time sales chart after overtaking Michael Jackson's Thriller.
The top four are currently Queen's Greatest Hits at No 1, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band by The Beatles at No 2, Abba's Gold at No 3 and (What's the Story) Morning Glory? by Oasis at No 4.
A source told the paper: "A repackaged album is currently being discussed. It's not yet confirmed that it will feature new material or songs that didn't make the original album but it makes sense to bring it out."
21 is currently enjoying its 68th week in the chart (at No 4), and 23 of those weeks have been at No 1.
The star revealed last week that she went unnoticed in Trafalgar Square by wearing her PJs.
