Japan: AKB48 with two all-time records in one weekWith first week sales of 1,616,795 copies, AKB48's newly released "Manatsu No Sounds Good!" has set the record for the highest first week sales of a physical single. The first day sales of "Manatsu No Sounds Good!" (1,170,554 copies) set a new record for most copies of a single sold in one day. This release marks their 13th consecutive #1 single on the Oricon chart. They now have a total of 8 singles selling over a million copies. The top 10 Japanese highest selling first week singles: 1. Could anyone compare the Japanese numbers to the overall single sales per week in the US?
How much may it drop in the second week?

Singles in Japan are actually way more expensive. Like $20 US iirc.

Singles in Japan are actually way more expensive. Like $20 US iirc. Then how much are albums? I would never pay that much.

It's just so odd that tech-oriented Japan would generate such huge sales for physical singles. Is the digital market there small?

I hate this kind of fast-food groups. They're the ultimate definition of no-talentness. At least PCD had Nicole.

It's just so odd that tech-oriented Japan would generate such huge sales for physical singles. Is the digital market there small? No, but the Japanese digital market is very secretive. Nothing IS ever reported of digital sales in general outside of monthly certifications. Plus, Japan still has the biggest physical market in the world.

The funny thing is that this single (as well as every other monster selling physical single in Japan in its debut week) will only sell about 300k more in the months to come.
