Looks like "Call Me Maybe" will miss out on #1 again this week? Maybe next week? (no pun intended)

I think Gotye deserves 8 weeks at #1. Such a great song, and since it took forever for radio to catch on, I wonder how long it would have been #1 if radio picked it up right away.
Call Me Maybe is sooooo sugary catchy. ugh and yum at the same time

How much of a difference is there in streaming points between Gotye and Carly?

Last week not much, and Gotye was losing, and Carly Rae was gaining. So she could be #1 this week there, who knows...
"Somebody" spends a second week at No. 1 on the Radio Songs chart with 138 million in all-format audience (up 1%), according to Nielsen BDS. It drops 2-3 on Digital Songs (264,000, down 9%), while staying atop On-Demand Songs (1.1 million on-demand streams, down 5%, according to BDS) for a sixth week.
Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe" holds at No. 2 on the Hot 100, claiming top Airplay and Streaming Gainer honors. On Radio Songs, the track pushes 9-7 with a 16% gain to 86 million in audience. On On-Demand Songs, "Maybe" lifts 3-2 with 1 million on-demand streams (up 4%), according to BDS. The cut holds at No. 1 for a second week atop Digital Songs (301,000, up 1%).
So she definitely could pass him this week.

Wow. It's so ridiculously close! However, CMM is still increasing wildly on radio and still moving up on streaming. STIUTK should fall on both soon. It's already going down on streaming, but the big factor here is airplay. If STIUTK just stop increasing CMM could finally take it.

I think "Call Me Maybe" will get four weeks starting next week and then Katy Perry will nab a week or two afterwards with "Wide Awake" around the time her movie comes out (and presumably the 3D video). Who knows what will happen after that. I actually don't see there being an imperial Summer smash this year on top of the Hot 100 like there was with "I Gotta Feeling", "Party Rock Anthem"

I hope they just let it chart on its own merit. Not every song that scrapes the top ten needs to be thrust to #1 to be considered a success.

This is IDJ we're talking about. If a #1 single is within reach they'll go for it.

Carly & Gotye BDS airplay gap was 52 million last week. It will probably be around 40 million this week. It's going to be really close. I think it will come down to streaming this week.

Rihanna Scores 22nd Hot 100 Top 10, Gotye No. 1 for Eighth Weekby Gary Trust, L.A. | June 06, 2012 2:25 EDT Plus: Justin Bieber Posts Chart's Top Debut, Katy Perry Vaults Into Top 20 Rihanna registers her 22nd top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100, as her dance-infused "Where Have You Been" jumps 11-9. Gotye's "Somebody That I Used to Know," featuring Kimbra, meanwhile, spends an eighth week at No. 1. As she ups her total to 22, Rihanna moves closer to the record for most Hot 100 top 10s among women in the chart's almost 54-year history. Madonna leads all female soloists with 38 top 10s (also the most among all acts, including solo males and groups), followed by Mariah Carey and Janet Jackson (27 each) and Whitney Houston (23). Dating to her first week in the Hot 100's top tier just almost seven years ago (July 16, 2005) with her debut single "Pon De Replay," Rihanna's 22 top 10s in that span are the most among all acts. Lil Wayne is second in that stretch with 16. Among women in that time frame, Rihanna boasts twice as many top 10s as her next closest female competitor, Lady Gaga (11). "Been" concurrently reaches the top 10 on Radio Songs, jumping 14-9 with a 17% gain to 64 million audience impressions, according to Nielsen BDS. The song is Rihanna's 19th Radio Songs top 10, pushing her past Lil Wayne (18) for the second-most top 10s since the chart launched in December 1990. Only Carey (23) has more in the chart's history. "Been" additionally bumps 8-6 on Digital Songs with 144,000 downloads sold (down 1%), according to Nielsen SoundScan, and 39-32 on On-Demand Songs with 286,000 on-demand streams, according to BDS. The song is Rihanna's second Hot 100 top 10 from her latest album, "Talk That Talk." She spent 10 weeks at No. 1 with first single "We Found Love." Both tracks feature the writing and production talents of Scottish DJ Calvin Harris. Atop this week's Hot 100, Gotye's "Somebody" manages to hold off Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe" for another week, although the points gap between the two titles continues to shrink. "Somebody" posts an eighth week at No. 1, fueled by a third week atop Radio Songs; with 145 million in all-format audience (up 5%), the song continues to rewrite the mark for the largest weekly audience for a track by a solo male rock act in the chart's archives. The song rebounds 4-3 on Digital Songs (247,000, down 6%), while staying atop On-Demand Songs (1.1 million on-demand streams, down 5%) for a seventh week. Jepsen's "Maybe" holds at No. 2 on the Hot 100. It ranks at No. 1 on Digital Songs for a third week (284,000, down 6%), surges 7-4 on Radio Songs (103 million, up 20%) and bullets again at No. 2 on On-Demand Songs (1 million, up 1%). With "Maybe" up by 2% in overall Hot 100 points and "Somebody" down by 2%, momentum continues in Jepsen's favor as she seeks to dethrone Gotye's smash perhaps as soon as next week. Maroon 5's "Payphone," featuring Wiz Khalifa, stays at No. 3 on the Hot 100, bounding 6-3 on Radio Songs (103 million, up 16%) and climbing 3-2 on Digital Songs (257,000, down 3%). With its latest sales frame, "Payphone" has passed 2 million in download sales to date (2.2 million). The song holds at No. 3 on On-Demand Songs (913,000, down 6%). Fun.'s former six-week Hot 100 No. 1 "We Are Young," featuring Janelle Monae, maintains its No. 4 rank on the Hot 100, while Nicki Minaj's "Starships" stays grounded again at its No. 5 peak to date. One Direction's former No. 4 hit "What Makes You Beautiful" reverses course 7-6, trading places with Flo Rida's "Wild Ones," featuring Sia (6-7). Justin Bieber's "Boyfriend," which reached No. 2 on the Hot 100 upon its debut nine weeks ago, edges 9-8. Below Rihanna's "Been" at No. 9, the Wanted's No. 3-peaking "Glad You Came" descends 8-10. Among notable moves just outside the Hot 100's top 10, Bieber debuts with a another song from his June 19 album "Believe," as "Die in Your Arms" blasts in at No. 17. The track roars onto Digital Songs at No. 4 (185,000 first-week downloads sold). Katy Perry's "Wide Awake," meanwhile, bellows 35-19 in its second week on the Hot 100 with top Digital and Airplay Gainer honors. The mid-tempo ballad charges 20-12 on Digital Songs (109,000, up 41%) and 70-35 on Radio Songs (35 million, up 101%). Perry performed the song live for the first time at the Billboard Music Awards on May 20. Check billboard.com tomorrow (June 7), when all rankings, including the Hot 100 and On-Demand Songs in their entirety and Digital Songs and Radio Songs, will be refreshed, as they are each Thursday www.billboard.com/news#/news/rihanna-scores-22nd-hot-100-top-10-gotye-1007247952.story

The entire top five is the same for the third week in a row. Absurd.
Looking forward to seeing if "Some Nights" reached a new peak this week.

And the same 8 songs are in the top 10 for a 10th week in a row, since all Rih did was knock out Phillipx2.

The whole streaming addition has really enforced stagnation on the charts.

Look at the Top 10 of today's CHR chart and the Hot 100 top 10. Swap out Rihanna with Usher. All the same songs. There hasn't been this type of correlation between the pop chart & the Hot 100 in, what, 20 years???

I thought I'd hate it back when it was first announced, but I love the way streaming has influenced the chart, along with the increased influence of airplay, personally.

Hm, it felt like more. 16 weeks in the top 10 already without surpassing its #5 peak is still crazy to me.

Starships is not moving at all, but staying consistent. Guess it was meant to fly into the Top 5.
