Side note: It's nice to finally have ONE song in the red. We have only ONE red, ONE green, and FOUR bolds?? THIS is why the Hot 100 is so boring, not the streaming. Streaming helps but it's not move much if airplay is barely growing anywhere. At least some songs are starting to lose hard (Gotye, Justin, The Wanted). Hopefully this will make room for more movement upwards. Ke$ha needs to release now and liven up the charts, and Nicki needs to officially announce her single as well. We also need "Good Time" updates. That's doing quite well on pop so far, so it should help make these updates more exciting too...

Plus a tiny bit from the ones not top 200. But those are waaaaay down so very little. Maybe 2% extra, total. But she gained more AI on them, and streaming is ahead (don't know how much, other than #1* vs 3*). Looks like hopefully another #1 week.

"Call Me Maybe" and "Lights" are both on sale for 25 cents on Amazon MP3 and are at #1 and #2. They should both see bumps in digital sales this week.

Okay, this stagnation is getting ridiculous.
We need some radio stations taking more chances on new material.
Even "Lights," which is a nice change of pace, is actually a 2 year old song that debuted on the Hot 100 LAST August.
And when newer artists have made inroads, such as fun or Gotye even The Wanted, radio seems fixated on just one song and unwilling to give follow ups much of a chance (it may be too soon to tell for all those guys but their hits have barely budged in months).

^--Let's be honest. Radio isn't really the problem right now.
The problem right now is that no one is really releasing anything new and big. Ke$ha has been delaying her single forever, Nicki & fun. can't even be bothered to throw out radio adds dates to their follow-ups; Rihanna and Katy are throwing out more singles from the end phases of their current eras; Eyes Wide Open/Chasing The Sun/Dark Side aren't radio friendly with hooks that are lacking in accessibility; Whistle's adds date was really late in the game causing its radio adds to be spread out over a span of a month. Really the only person who got it right was Carly Rae who sent out her follow-up right after Call Me Maybe peaked.

AND her follow-up is totally pop/radio-friendly.
Really though, radio IS playing a lot more new material, I think. First was Adele, then fun. and Gotye, now Ellie, Cher Lloyd, Rita Ora, Havana Brown, Justin, Calvin Harris, Neon Trees, etc. Some of these aren't huge or going to be huge, but the fact that they're making top 30 or even top 20 shows quite a decent amount of airplay. I think pop radio could be expanding its horizons.
Or, it could be the simple fact that Lady Gaga, Ke$ha, Britney, I dunno who else... Adele? Don't have any singles out. So several artists they can typically rely on aren't there to take up significant amounts of their airplay.

I mean, radio needs to be way way more diverse. Embracing stuff like fun and Gotye is nice, because not only were they new artists but their sound was pretty unique. But you're right it's not just radio's fault. There is this weird lockstep now where airplay/sales/streaming all seem nearly identical lately. It's just getting so boring.

And to be fair, she got lucky in terms of that timing, since it's primarily an Owl City single. Except it's not primarily an Owl City single. Owl City scrapped his own single whose adds date had been continually pushed back and released a single that is serving with credit to both as a main artist and is confirmed to be on both of their upcoming albums per AllAccess with an altered release date. It was very conscious in its timing.

^ You're right, but Carly wouldn't have been pushing a second single right now if this Owl City song didn't exist. Single #2 would probably be starting in a few weeks, instead.
