I enjoyed the show but it's starting to get stale with the same performers year after year. Where was fun., Gotye, and other artists that had a great 2012?

So Chris Brown's "Turn Up The Music" won 2 VMAs and Gotye & Kimbra's "Somebody That I Used To Know" won 0. In what world does that make sense?
Frank Ocean and Taylor Swift were good but the rest was a snoozefest.
I thought 2009-2011 were great but this was rough.

"Turn Up The Music" was the best video in it's category and he arguably deserved the award for best choreography too.
Ratings are in, they bombed

Holy SHIT!! I did NOT expect that at all. That's disastrous....50+% drop in viewers? I wonder if the fact that it was on a Thursday night hurt it.

I completely expected it. The list of performers was lackluster, and it was on a Thursday night. All those horrible decissions. It should have been this Sunday. The list of performers could have been kept, but make the show 3 hours, like normal, and add in fun., Gotye, Carly Rae & Owl, Katy Perry (doing a medley), etc. Lady Gaga & Ke$ha also needed to premiere their new songs on it as well.

Yeah, the show didn't feel like an event before and it definitely wasn't an event afterward. People watch the MTV Video Awards not for the performances, and nobody cares about the wins, they want entertainment. I think this award show is the biggest one as far as entertainment goes and they failed with it. The names announces aren't particularly known for bringing what people want to watch or expect from this show. Every other award show has performances and awards so this year, there was nothing making this awards stand out. Nothing to make people talk. If this biggest thing to come out of an MTV VMAs is how uneventful it was, something went terribly wrong.

I just assumed the VMAs have built up an audience over the past few years that wouldn't just completely tumble 50% from one year prior. This is the lowest audience since 2006 and worst 18-49 rating EVER.

Taylor Swift for the 100th time on every major broadcast (pop and country) is getting downright boring. Her fans may love her but...... Maybe she can buy a TV station and give them 24 hour Taylor and give the rest of us a break. I could say the same thing about the other annointed pop starts. Who keeps bringing up Britney. I don't have anything against her but her time has come and gone and she never had the talent to really keep a career going into her 30s.

VMAs is trully horrendous. Bring back the exciting and jaw-dropping 80s and 90s shows

Apparently the missing half of last years audience were GaGa, Brit and Bey fans. Yes. That's what you get MTV!

Or just people who wanted to see their President's nomination speech. Not everything is about the divas.

It definitely should return to Sunday night at 9PM next year. I didn't understand why it wasn't this year!

Plus, it should last up to 11:00-11:30. A VMAs that ends at 10 PM Eastern is unreal!

I'm not surprised about the ratings. This year's show was pretty lackluster.

Taylor Swift for the 100th time on every major broadcast (pop and country) is getting downright boring. Taylor is booked for all the awards shows because she's the biggest thing in music and everyone wants her. Duh. Who keeps bringing up Britney. I don't have anything against her but her time has come and gone and she never had the talent to really keep a career going into her 30s. Her time has come and gone? She may not be as successful as she was 10 years ago, but she's still a major force in the music industry. Also, singing talent is not required to have a long-lasting career as a pop artist. See: Madonna.
