If Flo Rida makes it to #1 this week, he'll be the first solo male to top the chart since...... Bruno?

Everything is moving so slow. We haven't even had a green +2M update for a while. This summer has been so lackluster in terms of giant summer songs. Mostly everything released (that was supposed to be big) has been disappointing. Aside from Call Me Maybe and Wide Awake, this has been one of the worst summers ever!

Also can someone remind me when airplay ends for the tracking week. Is it Sunday? Hoping Katy can hold on to #1! :)

So, based on Billboard, Mariah's new album is said to come in March, Triumphant is probably just a buzz single

I think it's Wednesday for the Hot 100/Hot 100 Airplay. Sunday night for sales. Hot 100 is through Tuesday. The Hot 100 is compiled early Wednesday morning. All the other radio charts are through Sunday.

They need to keep the weeks the same. It seems weird to me that we have all these different start and end dates for chart weeks. Billboard needs to track airplay Monday - Sunday like they do sales to be consistent.

You can't call something a buzz single just because it flops.

The periods tracked for airplay and sales have been different since Billboard debuted the BDS and SoundScan charts. Not sure if the airplay and sales charts differed in terms of period covered prior to that, though. On a related note, one which has been discussed before, mass merchants had a different sales week than other sales reporters until December 1998 (Saturday-Friday, vs. the traditional Monday-Sunday). I agree that some like to throw around "buzz single" if a track underperforms. Well, then, if it underperforms, there wasn't much of a "buzz" to it, after all. A single is a single.

You can't call something a buzz single just because it flops. Well until it's officially sent to radio, it's not really a proper lead single though is it? I'm not giving excuses for its underperformance thus far, mind.

I'm so glad "Settle Down" is doing well on radio despite the lackluster digital performance. It has demolished singles from Foo Fighters, The Killers, Green Day and Linkin Park among other A-list bands to put out singles in the recent past. Not to mention Evanescence, who were in a comparable situation being away for so long.

I'm not giving excuses for its underperformance thus far, mind. While the single certainly could have pulled a "Yeah!" and turned from a buzz track into a massive radio hit, it's not like the label has put much effort into pushing it either. The album never had a release date and isn't even close to completion, and they never sent the song for adds or even had it listed as going for adds. It'll be pretty easy to swipe this under the rug. It's not a "Through The Rain" situation where they're spending months on end trying to beat the song into hit status. If anything, the complete lack of interest in "Triumphant" should be a good gauge (for Island) of what kind of music the public doesn't want to hear from Mariah.

There's nothing wrong with a little consistency. It actually makes a difference particularly when the point totals between #1 and #2 are very close.

i wish there was a way to track streaming. And if there was, it would be cool if Kworb set something up similar to his iTunes updates page. I wonder if there will ever be a time...
