YES! Finally some US news is rolling in.
This will be the first US single from James Blunt's debut album, Bak To Bedlam, due out here on September 20. This song is one of the biggest hits of the year in the UK.
No word on an adds date yet.... however, WPLJ New York has already added this. They NEVER add music this early. They must have high expectations for this to show such early support. It's also getting early airplay in Denver.

Thanks for that. Neat video. Wow, what a leap! He seemed so self-possessed in the video. Not self conscious at all. His voice reminded me of the BeeGees at first and then maybe Freddie Mercury. I'll have to request his album at the library. Love the guitar in it and his voice is so unsual, but good.

No word on an adds date yet.... however, WPLJ New York has already added this. They NEVER add music this early. They must have high expectations for this to show such early support. This past week, WPLJ's morning team show of Scott and Todd were talking about James Blunt for a good 10 minutes or so. Scott (I think) was talking about how he heard the song several times while vacationing in Italy but he didn't know who sang it. He went to the record store and asked the people working there for "the Beautiful song." One of the employees directed him to Christina's CD, lol. To make the long story short, he came back here and did a little research and he found out that it was by James and that the song is available on iTunes. He then played the song and the DJs all gave positive comments about his voice and the song. I love the song and I'm currently in the process of downloading the album to hear if it's any good.

Wow, Organized Chaos, that's an awesome story. Thanks for the info. I think Scott and Todd need to go on vacation more often now!
I hope now that NYC is playing this, the record label will start to more agressively push the song (i.e. give an adds date for fuck's sake)
About the album, I just ordered it from amazon.xo.uk and its due to arrive within the next couple days. I haven't heard the album yet but I absolutely love all three songs I've heard from it so far.

You're welcome. :)
I was at work today and I heard the song on the radio. The guy usually has his radio on WLTW (NYC's #1 radio station) and I didn't check if it was on that station, but if it was, good for James! It's good to have this radio station behind your song.
I finished downloading it and haven't gotten a chance to listen to it yet. Will do so this weekend. Looking forward to it.

Wow, you did hear it on WLTW. They just added this too! Amazing! Ok, his record label needs to get their act together. They have 2 huge stations playing this song and the album is coming out exactly 2 months now. No sign of an adds date, any promo, a video being sent out.... really, what the hell? Also, does anyone know why on HAC Taking Off it only shows 1 new station and 21 "new spins" when in addition to WPLJ, a station in Denver added it this week with 20 spins right out the gate? Confusing.

Someone on the James Blunt official message boards posted that James Blunt was in NYC and did an interview on WPLJ last week. Anyone hear it?

There was symbolism in all those things he was laying on the ground... his webage somewhere says what each object is supposed to represent. Then of course, there's that huge jump off the cliff...

Picks up another add this week, in Houston.
I've never seen so many stations jump on a foreign hit on their own before it's even been sent to radio yet!

Going for adds at HAC & AC on August 29 (less than 1 month before the album comes out). No AAA adds date which should be his core format.
This is kind of sucky. This is perhaps the biggest hit in the UK of the decade, and it already has some early US hype which NEVER happens to foreign acts here. His label is not promoting him properly.... the song needs more time before the album comes out. They're really not taking advantage of his potential.

Yup, sadly he isn't the only foreign act not promoted properly in a foreign country.
I'll have to check this one out however, as his name is floating around quite regurlary in the press now and I heard he got some kind of 'chart record' in the UK. Maybe someone can fill me on that one.

Maybe someone can fill me on that one. His single went to #1 in its 6th week and has been there since. He currently has a triple crown in the UK: #1 Single, #1 Album, and #1 in Airplay. The funny thing about him not getting great promo in the US is that he actually had his US record deal BEFORE he had his UK one, and his album was recorded in Los Angeles.

European artists do have a lot harder to get established in the US so I'm not surprised about this. A person could sell several million copies in Europe but still get unnoticed in the US.

Except there's exceptions, like Dido for example, who became a star in the US before she did in Europe. I think James Blunt would be the same case- where he'd be able to achieve out-of-the-gate success here- assuming he has access to all the appropriate channels. His label should see his huge potential and secure big promo for him, and at the very least there's NO excuse for not giving him an ads date at AAA.

This is perhaps the biggest hit in the UK of the decade... There's so many things wrong with this statement, I can't even begin to listen. Biggest? Decade? Hardly!

This song is really good. I can see myself getting addicted to this song within the next week. It's rare that I listen to a song and like it the first time around. He seems like such a hippie, which is cool.

I felt awkward watching this video clip with my girlfriend.
Anyway, with that aside.. this should do great on AAA, no doubt a bout it. If it gets added!

Don't forget to e-mail your HAC stations in the HAC Capital of America about adding this song! ;) I hope he includes the B-sides of his UK singles on the American album, so I have a reason to buy the US release despite already owning the UK version lol.

"Goodbye My Lover" is powerful. I love "Wisemen", "High", and "No Bravery" too. I'm definitely picking this up when it's released.

My 4 favorites on the album are "High," "You're Beautiful," "Tears and Rain," and "Out Of My Mind." I think OOMM would make a good US second single, but I'm almost positive the second single will be "High."
