Hey, thought any fans of this song would like to hear Rob Thomas' comments about it. Someone started a thread on Rob's message board basically questioning why this song is doing so well because they hate it. After pages of positive and negative comments about it, Rob posted the following:
Originally posted by rob_thomas: james is great. the song is about seeing an EX-GIRLFRIEND in a tube. it makes it much sadder, no? Rt
That put the naysayers in the thread in their place. LOL. I think it's neat that Rob goes on his message board occasionally and just posts quick replies to various threads. Some about music and some just off-the-wall topics. Pretty cool.

Haha. Nice to see Thomas defending the song, but I don't agree with his interpretation at all. I'm fairly certain it's about a random one-chance encounter with a strikingly beautiful woman on the subway. James is overcome by her and writes the song wondering about what might have been if circumstances were different.

Rob is cool :) Rob has met James Blunt and they more than likely discussed the song then. I also heard a DJ on one of my local stations say that James Blunt said the song was about seeing an ex girlfriend on the tube before I read this comment from Rob. :)

Well, this is certainly one time where I'll have to disagree with Rob. ;)

This song is at #1 on the Hot AC chart. It's at #2 on the AC chart. If the song is at #1 simultaneously on both charts, when is the last time that happened? I'm guessing 2001 with "Only Time" but I'm not positive.

I'm surprised that there have been no posts in this topic for nearly two months.
Anyway, I am getting tired of this song, due to overplay on AC, Hot AC and CHR/Pop. When the song was climbing the chart, I absolutely loved it. That's what happens when songs are overplayed. The same thing happened with "Because Of You" by Kelly Clarkson. It was moving up my personal chart looking like it was on its way to #1, but it quickly petered out, which was when it was at #3. I'm surprised that I'm not yet tired of "Bad Day" by Daniel Powter. It's been on the charts nearly as long as "You're Beautiful".

I still like the song, but I have no reason to listen to it on the radio anymore. Almost every station I listen to plays it all the time now (or at least a few weeks ago)...
I'm glad it is a hit at pop, but I wish it would have happened earlier...

Is anyone else surprised that this single is falling like a boulder here now?
I figured that "You're Beautiful", given how popular and loved it is all around the world (it has gone six times platinum as a single here) would have chart longevity second only to "You & Me" by Lifehouse, and that rather than "High" successfully rising as it is, "You're Beautiful" would stick around and limit airplay for "High" so that a forthcoming single like "Goodbye, My Lover" would be clear for huge airplay potential.
But otherwise has happened, with "You're Beautiful" even falling below "Ever The Same" on the current chart with a current weekly loss of -316.
Are you surprised by this?
Sincerely, Noah Eaton
