James Blunt is the cover story of the latest issue of Billboard Magazine. That's awesome! So many PDs use that shit as like their Bible.

I don't know anything about this guy except what I've read here and the fact that he's on Atlantic Records (a company in a lot of transition right now in the US). I am gathering from the posts that this guy's music fits in with the other singer/songwriters on HotAC right now. What I find interesting that he's on the same label as Rob Thomas and Jason Mraz. Which one is Atlantic really going to push to HotAC (Rob with a 3rd single, Jason with his second, or a new artist)? I don't have a answer to that question but the fact that he is on the cover of Billboard Magazine may indicate where they are going to spend the money.
Those of you in the US who have heard this guy, does he offer anything different in style, vocals, or whatever that we currently don't have in the US? Does the UK currently have a lot of male singer/songwriters that are big right now? It may be the case that this guy is very different for the UK market but more of the same for the US.
Just throwing out some thoughts on an artist I haven't even heard yet. He may become huge in the US, maybe not. The next few months will be interesting to see how Atlantic markets this guy.
One more question. Does his album lean more rock, folk, or pop?

One more question. Does his album lean more rock, folk, or pop? I'd say the album is a good blend of all of those. His songs are catchier than those of David Gray/Damien Rice types. However he's not as sugary Pop as someone like Jason Mraz. He's right in the middle.

James Blunt debuts this week on both the HAC (#39) and AAA (#29) chart! Its also one of the lowest spins on the chart this week. So far in my database (since March 2005), the lowest charting week was back in April where 'Low Millions - Statue' debut at Number 30 with 118 spins. This week however, positions number 28, 29, 30 all have 98 spins.. very low. Even the 'New And Active' ends at 68. Interesting. JB

Up 3 spots to #36 at HAC. An increase of 47 spins.
At AAA, this is up 2 spots to #27.
I was actually hoping this would catch on a little faster.

So his album is out this week. It doesn't seem he'll sell a lot his first week. Not that I was hoping for much but I'm hoping for top100.

Yeah the album comes out next week.
Slinky, I'm surprised no DC stations are playing this yet, considering they often lead on many new HAC artists.

Yeah, WWZZ usually does take the lead, but they've been kind of "stuck" lately, still playing a lot of songs that either flopped or are recurrents at Hot AC. I haven't been listening to them much as a result.
I mean I like "A Life Less Ordinary", "Everybody's Changing", "A Lifetime" and "Landed", but it's time to move on. James Blunt is the future of Hot AC. :)

Listening to the song a few more times, I hear similarities between his voice and Rod Stewart's in this song. That's not a bad thing, but just an observation. Especially in the chorus.

7 more adds at HAC this week. This off to a GREAT start. It's pulling in steady adds each week, and it seems to be going right into medium rotation on most of them.

I like the song, but I hate his voice, it sounds like his voice is going to crack at any moment or something, he does sound like Rod Stewart!

I think this song is really going to breakout after the holiday season, it's already doing pretty well right now.

Things are really starting to happen!
This week, it offically enters the Top 20 HAC at #17 and Top 20 AC at #19. It's one of the greatest gainers at both formats. At AAA, it moves up to #13. It also is getting airplay on 2 Pop stations already.
Now climbing the iTunes Top 100 as well!
