It would make sense that 'Better Now's success on HAC would help HDYL, but I wonder whether that is always the case. It seems sometimes the earlier single overshadows the follow-up. This is purely anecdotal, but for example, I would say that Rob Thomas' second solo single has been outplayed by 'Lonely No More' about 5-1 during its chart run so far. Same thing happened with mb20's 'Bright Lights' after 'Unwell.' I don't know how it is anywhere else, but in this market it seems the radio people take the easy way out a lot of the time and just keep playing the same single rather than giving the new one a real chance. I definitely agree with that, but I just thought it would be the other way around because this song seemed much more ready made for the format.

This song is starting to pick up a bit. Perhaps top20 is in the cards after all.

Within a few weeks or so, you really can't count ANYTHING out, because radio stations change drastically once Jan. 1st rolls around. Whichever songs are charted on Hot AC and AC once Thanksgiving rolls around, it really doesn't change much at all.

According to allmusic.com, HDYL has made it to #31 on the Billboard Hot AC chart.

This is starting to pick up a few CHR adds. I heard it over the weekend for the first time on WRVQ/Richmond. It's also on WSTW and WNCI. Cool song, hope it does well enough to cross over. It sounds like it could be Collective Soul's biggest Pop hit in years.

This song is so hard to get a read on. On the one hand it looks like it's gaining momentum, it's picking up pop adds, it is gaining spins, but on the other hand it just can't quite make it into the top20 and other songs catch fire and blaze right by it. If this were a major label, I think it would be huge by now.

I'm a little suprised to see this is slowing down. HDYL was making pretty steady progress during the past month or so. I think this really needs to keep moving up the Hot AC chart to really have any kind of a chance at Pop. It is pulling in a few more adds at Pop though.

HDYL was in the Hot AC survey I just took from Ratethemusic.com. That usually means it's still getting good reviews from peeps. Still haven't heard it on my radio station. Just tried to call them to request it but it just rings and rings.

It's still picking up adds at a decent clip (+80 over last week). Once these Christmas songs clear out of the way, I see good moves for this song and Better Than Ezra's "Our Last Night"... possibly "Cab" by Train also.

The Better Than Ezra and Train songs were both in this survey too. And The Fray and Rob Thomas' Ever the Same.

I take that survey too, and I can't believe I'm still rating Keith Urban and Weezer. Ugh.

This song is FANTASTIC. I have to admit, I was a bit wary of Collective Soul coming back, fearing they'd just be a washed-up shell of their former selves, but their new material is just as good as their older stuff. This song should have no problem going Top 10 at Hot AC, and CHR would be ridiculously stupid to ignore this - but then again, they made Laffy Taffy a Top 15 hit, so who knows...

So is this going to be another 'Better Now' and take six months to make Top Ten? There really seems to be a log jam following the holidays, with every song in the Mediabase Top 20 showing gains and bulleted. Is that unusual?

It's more than typical. It happens every year no matter what! Everything should be back to normal in around a week so sit tight. I do think this song will make the top 10 and outpeak "Better Now" but it better start getting more adds soon or else it's toast. :)

Still one of the options in the Ratethemusic.com survey this week. The spins are all over the place. Was at zero one day this week, then up 56 the next time I checked. Now it's dropped again and is losing spins. I am so ticked at my radio station for not picking this up. I called them this week and requested it. The DJ said that it gets some overnight play, but nothing during the day. He said he'd try to get it on, but nothing. And the icing on the cake is they had Ed Roland in studio to promote this song and they've barely touched it. So mad!

This song deserves to hit, it makes me mad too. Maybe it still will, but more stations need to pick it up.

It's the same here with HDYL. One station has added it (I think) but all you ever hear are the promos and Ed Roland's little taped bit for the station, never the song itself! But CS at least is not alone in that regard. They're doing the same with Anna Nalick's new single and yet all they play is 'Breathe.' Maybe it's as Northcoast says, it's only getting overnight play. It just seems really chickenshit of them to do this though.

I just called my station...again. Got a female DJ and requested it. She said she'd try to play it this afternoon and that they were such nice guys. I told her I was so disappointed in the station for not picking this song up even after Ed Roland was in studio promoting it. She said that Collective Soul was in a tough situation by being on their own. I told her the fact that they didn't have a major label was making me root for them even more. I asked her if she could ask the listeners what they thought of this song. I said they are a great band, good guys and it's a great song! Hope I was persuasive! :)

^^ Good... at least she was listening, Noah...
I emailed by local Hot AC to complain about the lack of new songs on their playlist a week and a half ago and I STILL haven't heard back from them. :(

The song is in the top 20 at Hot AC and Better Now went Top 10, what difference does it make at this point? In any event, my Hot AC station has been playing this a lot. In fact, it's their 2nd most played song right now. The bullet is +97 on the A2M chart, but it is -68 on the A2R chart. In general, the A2R chart seems a little strange right now...

The A2R chart is "weird" right now because all of the Cumulus stations were pulled from it... all songs have been affected to some degree... nothing to worry about really for Hot AC, though it's caused a REAL MESS at CHR/Pop

I think without the "perks" big labels can provide, sometimes a group like this just has a tougher hill to climb. Certain stations won't pick it up until it's in the top 10 maybe even. But a hit is a hit, and I just believe this song will somehow push through.

I don't see what everyone's so worried about. On the mediabase version of the chart it's looking at hitting #14 this week with a bullet close to the top 10 biggest. Hopefully Staind will run out of gas soon, Green Day will freefall and everything will fall into place. It's going top 10, don't worry. By the way, what's up with Howie Day? Is he pulling another "Collide" ? ???

I was only referring to his Hot AC success with this song anyway. In any event, it looks like "How Do You Love" is just about done. Oh well. It's radio's loss.
