Disappointing. It was just starting to get rolling on some stations too.

My station just added this track, but I'm really not feeling it.
I dunno... This kinda mature sound from Collective Soul is... I dunno. Don't get me wrong! Collective Soul have always had a "mature" sound dating back to their self-titled disc, but something happened over the decade since.
Frankly, I can't stand Ed's phrasing in this song. It's just so clear and crisp and almost un-natural.

It's just so clear and crisp and almost un-natural. I know what you mean. I felt that way about the entire album on the first listen through. Like the rhyme took precedence over the logic of the phrasing. But after multiple listens it diminished and then I really liked this song and the album.

Ed Roland and CS called into my radio station today to promote their new DVD. Before the interview, the station played clips of all their big hits. Of course, nothing off of Youth was played since this station has shunned them. Then the DJs schmoozed up to Ed and the guys as they discussed their music. After they hung up, the male DJ said "I absolutely love that band!" Too bad he doesn't love them enough to actually play their current Top 20 song.

My guess is you can probably blame their program director more than the DJ. It's strange that Ed Roland calls in and they still won't play HDYL... It's not looking too good for the song right now. If it keeps falling the next week or so, then I'll say it's "done." To me, this song fits the format just as well as Better Now, so I think it deserves more. On the other hand, Collective Soul is on their own label now, so I'm happy they are having some success. By the way, the clips I've seen from the new DVD are looking and sounding good, so I think I'll pick it up soon.

Was it naive of me to think HDYL might get a boost from their playing it on Leno last Friday? I can see it hasn't.
I have heard only good things about the new live cd/dvd, in terms of people who have seen it. Not a single negative review/comment, and some of the most enthusiastic have been from people who either don't know/don't really care for Collective Soul. I hope it's successful for them.

I just sent a pleading e-mail off to my morning DJ who interviewed Ed this morning. Asked him to give this song a chance. Maybe play it a few times and ask for feedback from the listeners. My one last effort on HDYL's behalf. I tried hard not to be snippy, but couldn't resist quoting him about how he absolutely loves CS. So I asked him to please give the song another look. Maybe play it on Valentine's Day. He ususally responds so I can't wait to see what he says. Just frustrating to hear the same songs over and over again on my station all day long. Man, they play Counting Crow's "Mr. Jones" almost every day. No kidding. It's like a current song on their playlist.

Well, I think it's pretty safe to say that HDYL has peaked. Anyone think they will release another single from Youth (maybe Under Heaven's Skies)? I think they might be done since HDYL "underperformed"...
By the way, I got the Home DVD (with the Atlanta Youth Symphony Orchestra) the day it came out and I think it's great! I always love orchestral parts in rock/pop music, so that is definitely part of the reason I like it so much. The orchestral arrangements are great and there are some songs that are very emotional. Great stuff overall...

I never heard back from my DJ on it. :(
Hey, did anyone notice that they're using "The World I Know" as the theme song on commercials for a new show on Animal Planet. I think it starts tonight. That's cool. Great song!

Yeah, the 'Home' dvd is fantastic. I've been watching it off and on the last several days.
A lot of people on the CS board are convinced 'Under Heaven's Skies' will be the fourth single. I think they base this on the fact that it's listed on some cd labels as the 'fourth song' after the first three singles. Too bad about 'HDYL.' Still, three top 20 singles off the album isn't bad. I just wish that had translated into more album sales.

I'm loving the "Home" CD but haven't been able to find the DVD yet. The CD is outstanding.

HDYL deserved a much better fate. Surprising it stalled out. UHS is not good enough to get much rotation - they should cut the cord on new releases for this one.

Does anybody know with any degree of certainty whether 'Under Heaven's Skies' is going to be released as the fourth single? As I mentioned, several people on the CS board are absolutely convinced it's going to be, though they won't be pinned down on HOW they know. A couple of others close to the band say it's definitely not going to be.
I'd rather hear it from someone here.

Though their album has sold incredibly strongly by indie label standards, releasing a fourth single wouldn't make sense when "How Do You Love" failed to make any lasting exposure on any format. "How Do You Love" was the most appealing single release from the record, and if that fell short, I don't expect any other track will. Sincerely, Noah Eaton
