October 24th! W00t! I'm so happy that this song is the new single and I've been eyeing this message board and FMQB for word on what and when his next single was. Now I know and this is the song I want. I hope it's huge! Or does well. I think it could do well if it gets exposure enough.

As I mentioned in the "Wordplay" thread, I don't believe any track is going to boost this album back up, thus whatever he releases now from the album will flop.
This is the track that is least conceited while most radio-friendly at the same time, but this is not going to win over listeners because it sounds too much like his other songs, with the familiar mid-tempo beat going on throughout the whole song, Mraz's semi hip-hop bounces and no change of pace.
Mraz's formula is already wearing out, and it seems to me the golden rule of career longevity is if you can strike gold twice with a formula, go with it, but if you only strike gold once and pan out nothing since then, your best hope in staying in the game is to evolve. We've seen "Curbside Prophet", and now "Wordplay" flop, and because Mraz has no single track on this album that is both radio-friendly and particularly unique, that's why this album is dead as dust commerically.
My Prediction: #31
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

It worked for 3 Doors Down having the same sounding song released time and time again. Among many others.
Either way, I don't see this song pulling off any magic so while I think it's prolly the best release of 2005, I don't see it doing much. I see your prediction of #31 and raise it to #29.

I'm excited that Jason's releasing more singles. I didn't think "Wordplay" was special at all and I was sad to see his album not do all that well. Maybe this could help the album more? However, like Noah has said, the likelihood of that happening is very slight.
If I was to predict, I think in the early 40's to not chart at all; I hope I'm wrong though. I haven't heard the song.

Yes, like I said, if an artist can get away with having a hit and then earning another out of the same formula, the approach is well likely going to succeed for a while. 3 Doors Down are a clear example of a band who has followed the exact same formula and keeps getting hits off of it, as has Nickelback. Jason Mraz just doesn't have the hit power they have right now. Nothing since "The Remedy" has even come close to the level of airplay it received, and it's becoming more and more unlikely he will avoid one-hit wonderdom, with recording a stronger third album perhaps his only remaining bet in avoiding this fate. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

And whether or not he remains a one-hit-wonder, I'll continue to buy his CDs as long as they continue to make my listening ears happy. This new CD is still great after two months and I'm certain will go up against his debut to be among my all-time favourites. I've unofficially named it the best CD of 2005!

This song is probably my favorite on the album(along with Geek In The Pink) so I'm happy, whether it does well or not!

AllAccess lists "Geek In The Pink" as the next single, releasing on the 17th...

AllAccess lists "Geek In The Pink" as the next single, releasing on the 17th... Well, that is the next catchiest track to "Wordplay" on the album, so it would make sense releasing that in the attempt to get as much airplay as possible, which still will be very little. I would certainly prefer "Did You Get My Message" to "Geek In The Pink". The latter is just so conceited just like "Wordplay" is. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I also like 'Geek In The Pink' but I'm slightly disappointed as I had my heart set on 'DYGMM' but 'GITP' is my second favourite I think.
For the record, 'Wordplay' is my second least favourite on his CD.

It's a fun, catchy song, but I don't think it will do much anywhere, it doesn't really fit any radio format with the exception being, sadly enough, Radio Disney.

This can get moved back to Triple A/Hot AC now since it goes for adds at Triple A this week! :)

So how did this peak at AAA? I didn't even notice it charting.
